    LOVE the old Österreichring! Another challenging circuit that demanded respect and courage to drive on, especially some of the blind spots. I also notice at 2:06 the car behind the two Ferrari hits one of those wooden(?) markers at the edge of the track ( right side ) and sends it flying high up into the air , classic!!! Thanks again for your wonderful video, appreciate it. Cheers from the USA.

      ...the markerers were hollw and of sheet metal, or more likely of plastic. They were the same as on regular streets. If they were of wood, they would have broken the car completely.

    I enjoyed that, thank you, especially the last film with James Hunt commentating. I went there for the 1986 Austrian Grand Prix and watched from just after the Texaco Chicane. Alain Prost won the race. (I am from Wales).

    Great video man, i laughed at the de crasheris (rip).
    Its a shame they couldn't make the old track safer without changing everything.

Maybe we get Mazespin as a true successor! LOL! It´s a pitty they simply didn´t add run off areas... Cheers from Portugal!

    I just wonder what happened with banked corners on F1 tracks? I know Brazil and Zandvoort have banked corners and excluding ludicrous banked turns like the one at the old Monza and AVUS, but they used to be alot more prevelant, why did they go out of fashion? Was it just the stress on tires and suspension or were they that dangerous?

    • @richardgolger5808
      @richardgolger5808 17 дней назад

      Yesss! - If a driver lost control of the car in a banked curve, the track sent the car off like on a ski-jump...
      Or there is a massive wall where the car disintegrates on impact, like on the oval courses used in the american racing series.

    Alain Prost actually said that if you put in run-offs(expecially at the 180 degrees Bosche Kurve), then this circuit would be safe again for F1. The redesigned circuit has lost so much of the flow and it's so stop and start with now tight apex corners for the first two corners.

      Red Bull Ring displays 2 things one can always find where corporate interests interfere. 1/ Utter greed and 2/ An utter lack of any form of imagination. We need to remove ALL corporate interests from the running of motorsport in general, and push them back into the 'sponsorship' roll where they belong. Most are incapable of running a piss up in a brewery. They display this fact constantly. Love your videos my friend, and this track, and all the old 'dangerous' ones are available to drive in Grand Prix Legends.

    4:00 I think saying that Tilke "destroyed" the track is a bit harsh. He kept the ideas, but not necessarily the feel, of the original circuit. There's still an uphill right as turn one, the track is still a rollercoaster, the final two sectors are flat out almost, and its a fantastic circuit for racing.
    Is it the original? No. Is it one of Tilke's best Grade 1 tracks? Easily. People often forget that Tilke did design some absolute bangers; Malaysia, Bahrain, The Red Bull Ring, Baku, COTA, Istanbul, Nurburgring GP, Korea, Buddh, Mexico City.

    lmfao the Hermann Tilke hateboner is incredible. Old track had pretty much no runoff and adding some is basically impossible bc you'd had to fill in insane amounts of land. The new track is great as it is, one of the best on the F1 calendar. Saying Tilke destroyed the track is just dumb as it would probably not exist anymore if it wasn't for these changes. Great old footage you got in the video, was fun to watch nontheless.

      Man, I respect all opinions but that one is mine and that is what I believe. I know perfectly that Tilke´s job is not easy but here that was not even one original corner left!!! If you prefer the current short track without any fast corners, that is your opinion; I would love to have the old one back. It would provide much better racing and spectacle! Adding run-offs is not that hard, is it? (They just changed Eau Rouge - look at it) But that´s just me! Thanks for watching.
