"Why Do People Laugh at Spirit 'Science'?" is a series in which I debunk and make fun of the claims of defacto new age cult leader Jordan Duchnycz/Pearce/David/River/whatever he calls himself this week, and his "Spirit Science," which is about as far from science as it gets. Featuring psychic powers, male and female energy which apparently relates to thermodynamics, spinning physical wheels inside our bodies and Jews from space, this is some serious stupid that sadly, millions of people seem to take seriously.
Sorry this took so long. I was going to have this done by mid-November, but as I was about 80% done with the script, my kids got sick, and took turns being sick up until the holiday season. If I had any time to myself, I was too exhausted to work on videos. Fortunately, the kids are fine now, so it's time to get back to business and make a lot more videos. Some quickies, some with more production value... But yes, you'll see more videos from me now. Hopefully quite a lot more.

@@RomaTomassi look, I hate to take a funny little rhyme thread and inject seriousness into it, but the EU "model" is blatantly wrong on more levels than can easily be explained.
I'll not pretend to know the full details of the concept - because even the basic premise is so flawed it hardly bares mentioning - but almost anyone with an iota of knowledge on the subject could point out that large bodies tend towards neutrality in terms of electromagnetism. By it's very nature, the force sorts itself out in the large scale with similar polarities moving apart and opposite polarities attracting.
The net result is that the two more or less pair off, resulting in a net zero charge.
On a more practical level, if I make a magnet why are only certain things attracted to it? If it is magnetism, not gravity, that pulls my water bottle to earth, why doesnt it react to magnetic fields at all? Why do magnets fall at the same rate everything else does? How the hell does an MRI not rip itself apart?
Your points about dark matter and dark energy are somewhat valid, but to use a rebuttal similar to one used against a certain brand of creationism: just because I didn't see a car run off the road, doesnt mean I cant guess that there was probably a reason for it. Dark matter is a way to explain observable phenomena. That we cant directly observe dark matter is a conundrum and perhaps we might find it doesnt exist at all and there is a totally different explanation, but until there is a competing theory that makes sense, it is what we have.
I mean, the lack of gravity causes all sorts of weird issues as well. For example, where do the heavier elements come from if not from stellar fusion? How do stars life cycles work if they aren't constantly replacing lighter elements with heavier ones? How come we cant detect any of this electricity around us despite electricity and magnetism being painfully easy to detect? Moreover, if the sun is being powered, how does that power flow through space? Electricity needs a conductor and there isnt any in a void. Dont forget, the sun isnt even stationary. This solar system and entire galaxy are all moving, you would think we should notice if the sun got disconnected once or twice from whatever powers it.
Which is another whole ball of insanity. How would a black hole produce electricity, and enough to power all the stars in the galaxy, when the only thing that leaves them is gamma radiation?
There is a reason gravity is the standard model, and many why the overwhelming majority of physicists think electromagnetism has almost nothing to do on the astrological scale.

Every time we think Jordan had truly plumbed the absolute depths of stupidity, someone hands him a shovel. He isn't scraping the bottom of the stupid barrel anymore, he's tunneled through the crust into a molten vein of pure idiocy.

Whenever I feel bad for having a lapse in judgement, say or do something stupid, or question my own sanity, I remember Jordan exists and that I never ended up like him. Then everything becomes alright again.

I once tried to teach a flat earther that fluoride isn't the same as fluorine and that things that are bad for you in high concentrations can be good for you in low concentrations.

The "lightning canyon" thing gave me flashbacks to Hovind/VemomFang's "water created the Grand Canyon" idea.
I remember reading "The Big Bang Never Happened" back in the 90's when I was a teenager and being very convinced by what was then called "Plasma cosmology" which sounds a bit like this "Electric Universe" thing. Then I learned how to rationally analyze arguments, and realised that Eric Learner was in fact simply presenting all manner of fallacious arguments and flimsy "evidence".
I could say the same about myself and Graham Hancock's ideas. Youth is a magical time.

Plasma cosmology is outdated but legit science (it just didn't pan out). Electric universe is a pseudoscientific extension of plasma cosmology. Even those who still support PC laugh at it.
@Matthew Sharpe: My experience was almost identical to yours. It is a rather convincing book, if you're not experienced in recognizing the warning signs of pseudoscience.

He left IBM and gained employment with the Australian government in Canberra (Department of Foreign Affairs). How can you go wrong with such training?
Wallace Thornhill and David Talbott met each other and Immanuel Velikovsky in Canada in 1974. This inspired them to come up with 'electric universe' A mix of thoughts by Velikovsky (colliding worlds), Thornhill (electricity) and Talbott (mythology).
I remember coming across the "Electric Sky" stuff (which I think is the same thing) some years ago. Looking at their model for stars it looked like you shouldn't see any star greater than the Chandrasekhar Limit as they would all collapse (I seem to remember that they had a bit of fusion in the outer reaches of the star as they had to have a way to generate heavy elements, but the core was cold with no fusion). It occurred to me at the time that they'd neglected to consider the Weak interaction. Maybe the bit I'd missed was that they didn't consider gravity to exist per se.

I never thought that I would live to see the day when someone would, without joking and being completely serious, propose a more ridiculous "scientific" explanation for the Grand Canyon, than the Young Earth creationist "flood model"

Hey, maybe Jordan would be interested in the 'Energy Enhancer' (or something like that) a guy I used to be remotely aquainted with was selling... It was some kind of magical combination of tape and aluminium foil that would increase efficiency in computer cables, blood flow and nerve transmissions, radio antennas etc (you get the drift - everything). That guy also believed hardcore in the Electric Universe model, water-fueled cars, that the CMBR was a Nasa conspiracy... And that he was very intelligent. He was not.
He stopped talking to me after I burst out laughing and called bullshit when he was pitching his gadget/gizmo/doodad to some prospective customers. For a few months I haf been needling him about 'evidence' for his 'hypereficient engine' he was promising (and gathering investor money for); something about adding 'polarized' water to normal fuel, which he claimed he had been running in his personal truck engines for years. Of course he would not go patent it due to 'Big Oil' paranoia, and everything had to be very hush-hush and unspecific so no one could steal his ideas.
My estimation was 50% con-job, 50% wishful self-deception... 100% Hilariously pathetic. Never forget humour when interacting with these kinds of people. AND NEVER GIVE THEM ANY MONEY. Unless you are Jordan, ofc. No force in the universe could prevent him from blowing wads (of cash, hopefully?) on anything that is related to woo-woo spirit crystal alternative science stuff.

The point of pure science is to expand understanding and get closer to the "truth" of reality.
Its purpose is not to be useful, that is an unintended side effect unless it is part of commercial R&D then its purpose is to make money or what whatever the purpose is intended by the financiers.
The purpose of engineering is to be useful. It takes scientific knowledge and develop outcomes useful to people.

Another idea for the rotation of Venus is similar to Uranus, the atmosphere of the planets isn’t uniform and is very thick and heavy, allowing for the sun’s gravity to pull on it differently, thus then caused both of them to rotate to their current axis of roughly 90 degrees for Uranus and 180 degrees for Venus
