      I just installed this today on my 17 which is more involved since you also need to take the AC/heater controls out as well. However, it was not bad at all and only took me about 2.5 hours. I hated how long the stick felt and this one is much shorter and way more comfortable IMO. Also the quicker throws is a plus. I would rather do this install again than the CAI any day.

    So if by chance you read this please note that the 2018 Focus has a completely different install process. I pick up the last new Ford performance shifter and installed it last night. The side panel do not have to come off. Jus the trim around the shifter and the trim pieces under the radio, also the airbag indicator light have to be removed. There are four t25 (maybe T20) screw that have to be removed behind the air bag indicator, as well as one at the bottom of the shifter. The whole console does not have to come out in later models. Everything else after that is basically the same. The sifter cables are quick release so pull back on the bronze looking connector on the back and the should come right out ( do not try to pry them out). Put it back together in reverse. Be sure to have some trim piece removal tools, it helps a lot.

    Just installed this - love the difference! I will say the video is extremely deceptive as to the difficulty of putting the panels back. The install took me 3 hours, 45 minutes of which were spent on re-installing one piece of trim (the one that wraps around the passenger side and comes around between the shifter and the cup holder - holeeeee crap how did you just "pop" that thing back in there? I had to remove the passenger side panel again and sort of install them both together... Perhaps there could be a follow up video on that one single piece of trim and how to re-install it - LOL? Either way, the video was a huge help - and I really love the 2-3 shift... that shift alone makes this product worth its weight! I also have the Boomba bushings... now for a heavier knob... :)

    • @logictrumpsemotion3851
      @logictrumpsemotion3851 5 лет назад

      Ben Yea, haven driven both, the Fiesta ST is very different. The clutch and the stick are way softer (and I thought the Focus was soft), and even with the long stick I can barely reach in a perfect seat position. You're kinda reaching down. The Focus isn't like that, resting your arm on the arm rest your hand is like 5 degrees higher if it's on the shifter, so a shorter stick would just make it level. I think a better alternative would be for Ford to have made the Focus's armrest a little higher. It's like just below the threshold of comfortable and useable. It's also so damn small I can't fit my phone in it. It's pretty worthless, Ferraris have bigger center console storage.

  • @EliteKrew
    @EliteKrew 7 лет назад +1

    Good video, you really should try not to use a metal clip tool. Try using a plastic one and tape off the sharp edges so you don't damage anything. You won't break anything if you take your time and don't get frustrated. It's actually a fairly simple job. It's just time consuming.

    I found a few issues with these instructions, most notably, the order of the panel removal specifically for the 2013-2014 model . below I have listed the order that is easiest, for the 2013-2014 shown in this videos
    1. Remove shift bezel, the bezel trim does not need to be removed unless you actually bought the Ford Performance Short Throw Shifter and want to use that boot, If you are doing what i did and are just using this video as reference for panel removal to do other shifter related things just leave it.
    2. remove the large passenger side panel that hides the electrical connections, it makes it easier to the the trim to the right of the shifter off.
    3. Remove those 3 5.5mm screws and remove the trim to the right of the shifter.
    4. Remove the trim to the left of the shifter.
    5. Carefully detach the small trim piece at the base of the e-brake.
    6. Remove the driver side trim panel
    7. Remove the center console as shown.
    If you do it in the order listed there is far less risk to panel tab/retaining clip damage. Then you reassemble just do it in reverse order. I hope this helps someone.

      We plan on trying the Ford shifter with the COBB plate sometime in the future. Might be the ultimate short throw shifter? This part is pricer and more involved to install for sure but I do like the lower height, its a lot more comfortable for me when I drive it.

      Matt Grimes Second that. Keep it ford for closer to original value. It's like comparing a vehicle tuned with all parts from one complete aftermarket package (AC Schnitzer for example) versus throwing together parts from a variety of manufacturers. In the end, packages and original factory name is where the value is retained. At least, this is my understanding.

    • @FreshlySnipes
      @FreshlySnipes 9 лет назад +6

      So you can spend more money putting in this upgrade and also because a wide range of people will buy this car. A short throw shifter like this makes it slightly more difficult to change gears and reduces the amount of people who might want to buy it. Ford wants to make all their cars appeal to a wide variety of people, within reason.

      Yea, and probably charge about $1,400 for installation, and overcharge for the part, making it over $2k total. Either find a local mom and pop mechanic, find someone else who's done it, or take the time to do it yourself. I don't personally think it's worth it. I got the Cobb shift plate and bushings kit and it's a hell of a lot better than stock. I do wish the stick was shorter in the boot, but not THAT bad. Seems it would be cheaper to have someone chop it down and rethread it with it still installed than it would be to swap it out. Idk

    DO NOT BUY THIS FOR A 2016 FOCUS ST. I ordered this product because they claim it works on the 2013-2017. This is not true. I had a dealership service dept. install this on my 2016 Focus ST and there are major issues. They tell you to use your original shift boot which is too long so you'll get excess material interfering with shifting (especially into reverse). The opening on the 2016 is too small and the shifter hits the side walls of the trim. I'm sure it's a great shifter for certain years but this does not work on the 2016. Don't buy it.
