    can you really still call this a 'single driver' speaker though?

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo 2 месяца назад +5

      Yes, you are correct that it is not a single driver in the sense that it has more than one driver. That is why in the beginning, I put a little note at 6 seconds mentioning that it is a 'single full range driver'. In short, it is a speaker that has a full range single driver as one of its driver. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment.

      Broadband Driver would be less confusing than single driver.

    I had a pair of Rethm first generation speakers about 20 years ago and agree with your assessment of their past speakers. The single driver by itself was great for small acoustic music but didn’t have the room filling dynamics for rock, symphonic or other more complex/large scale music. I would be interested in hearing this new model.

    It would be nice to leave the lions share of the work to a well built active speaker.
    Only leaving you with shall we say “ the flavour” of what you want to delve into with less drivers. This is a trend I come across more and more. The dichotomy of system inputs vs the “we’ve done it for you”. Thanks for another interesting and well spoken instalment.

    Thomas extensive experience in front of a camera makes his reviews highly engaging and enjoyable. Wise decision by The Absolute Sound to have Thomas as part of the review team.
    Now, try to recruit Ron from New Record Day, or Andrew Robinson. and likely your viewership in RUclips would quadruple.

    • @dajikbatarang1
      @dajikbatarang1 2 месяца назад +1

      You and me both. I do have box speakers for music genres that maggies dont excel at, but I always go back to Magnepan. Maggies with actively crossed over dual subs is just lovely.

    • @robertdavis1976
      @robertdavis1976 2 месяца назад +1

      Yup!!!!! Same here! And once you upgrade the crossovers with top notch components, and add a pair of open baffle (dipole) subs - it becomes really, really, really difficult for conventional speakers for less than ten times the price to compete. And even then, the Maggies will do some things better........

    • @BaileyWiggebutt
      @BaileyWiggebutt 2 месяца назад

      Yes and no for me. I absolutely love my 3 pairs of Magneapan’s. I still have a few box speakers because sometimes I want to hear something different.

      @@robertdavis1976 AXPONA 2023 I had just visited a number of the most expensive lower level suites hearing big buck systems and was wandering the general sales, records,... room area when I was stopped dead in my tracks. The sound! Coming from a small curtained booth was a fullness and depth lacking in every massive big buck room so far. It was Magna Risers with a pair of .7's. In a BOOTH! That full rich deep soundstage and instrument clarity! Then I had to go back to boxes and drivers!
      Later to be exonerated in the Maggie booth. I was the voice that gave The Audio Belle a hard time about listening to boxes for bass.

    Im just learning not to scoff at multi 6.5" bass setups, done properly you can get 6.5's to pound! I just did a vented enclosure for my vehicle using dual bottom bottom shelf 6.5 woofers @ roughly 100 watts to each. If you heard them without seeing, you would think I had an entry level 10 inch sub rocking!

    Hey Thomas, what do you think of modern servo subs? Most modern subs attempts to match the speed to specific loudspeaker types by offering numerous models; modern servo subs use 12, 15, 18 inch woofers but are fast enough to play with 6” and 8” woofers on loudspeakers, thus eliminating the need to own a specific sub for a loudspeaker.

    I was not happy about Thomas joining the TAS review staff. I still believe it is a conflict of interest. But his reviews are much better than the lifeless zombies that also do review for them. Even Fremer has turned it around and puts out good content without the smugness.

    Full range drivers make great midranges in fully developed speakers. Whether or not they have full bass, well, that's probably a no from me, I use tapped horn subs with 21" woofers that would be 8 feet tall if I stood them upright, so.

    I use their top of the line Saadhana with brunoco 2a3.The speakers are very sensitive with the knobs at the back...If you dial them in correctly its magic...but it requires lot of patience to understand them...because they are so revealing , your chain has to be top notch...i would be interested to know how they compared with the macos and the sibelius...did u try them with a brunoco amp?

    It is a fine review but I do not see how this compares to, or is, a single driver speaker in the same vein as the Pearl Acoustics which has a single drive unit and speaker. This has multiple speakers. Is it just one drive unit? This seems more like a three way speaker. I must not be understanding the technical configuration.

    I do feel you come over a bit biased in some of your presentations especially Chinese crappy valve amps. Just observing just saying don't take it personally
