  • Western Roundup is a large, flat, western map with only a few pre-built buildings: perfect for a large theme park with a mainstreet and lots of roller coasters. So, that's more or less what I'm building here - and that explains the ridiculous runtime of this episode.
    This episode features a good amount of coasters with compact layouts on flat ground - so perfect for blueprints! Get the blueprints for the coasters here:

    I get sucha weird indescribable feeling watching you build things. Like, I don't even know how to describe how it's indescribable. I'm writing this watching the wild mouse coaster. The station just BOOM there it is, it exists, it looks great, it looks like it took no time at all. I can tell you aren't editing out bits where you're scrolling trying to figure out what to use or how to use it, it just forms into existence out of nowhere. Then you move and make a smaller enclosed area in just a part of the queue and my brain is like YEAH ENCLOSE ONLY PART OF IT YESSSS DON'T FORCE YOURSELF TO COVER ALL OF IT THAT'S SO INFURIATINGLY REALISTIC TO HAVE HALF THE QUEUE OUT IN THE SUN. Then you add awnings and wouldn't you know it they don't cover the queue consistently and your guests go "ugh man the line's moving now we have to stand in the SUN" and it's so relatable and realistic and effortless and I just am over here mesmerized by it. I can't explain it better than that. These buildings just GROW from NOTHING and they look so fitting and feel so real. And the colors go along together but they're not the same 3 colors across the entire park like my archipelago adventures which I really am proud of but WOW do I suck at natural colors omg

    I think Colorado Adventure's warehouse o' helices adds a lot of charm to the ride. All three segments pass through it so it forms a sort of central hub to the ride and it gives a little bit of a "behind the scenes" feeling every time you go through it.

    For a theme you have almost never done, I take my hat off! I love how the scenery interacts a bit so to say with the rides, which is what I missed in the first couple episodes (probably because you didn't have the money/pieces available to you). The original US Theme-park (and the only theme park in the Cedar Fair group), Knott’s Berry Farm, made its first themed area as a Wild West ghost town-and considering it was built in the Great Depression, I’m pretty sure the theme was chosen for the same reason family parks do so outside the US. Just nail a bunch of cheap wood from the local junkyard together and Bam! Instant facade.

  • @ghoulannabanana
    @ghoulannabanana 3 года назад

    I know this video is 2 years old already but I just wanted to say that I actually really like all the greenery despite the desert theme, it reminds me of places like the late Bonnie Springs or my home park Knott's. Lots of old ghost towns have greenery if permitted, if not bouts of bushes and flowers that are maintained, and wild grasses tend to find their way in between everything. Surprisingly more trees than most would expect, too, the desert is weird like that. Less cacti than most would imagine as well. I think this park came across so beautifully and pretty close on to a theme you hardly use! The idea of pioneer style houses is spot on, but they did allow for larger style buildings. A town square around a gallows or signature hanging tree wasn't uncommon, primitive city halls, larger jails, banks, churches, livery stables, and of course saloons are all great bigger buildings. The way it grows as it was needed is very realistic as well, most old boomtowns did exactly that and lack structured form, outside of a main strip. There isn't much I'd do differently but I would add some kind of transportation ride, as typically they were in the middle of nowhere so the stereotypical train station would have been real fun, as well as adding some kind of water ride (believe me it's going to be 108 here in SoCal and if this park was open anywhere hotter I think my shoes would melt to the path haha), and I'd also have had more individuality with the town buildings! Add a schoolhouse or old church, a cemetery, blacksmith, etc etc etc those little towny things that a smaller attraction style park would really sell as it were trying to grow haha. I don't know why i felt the need to make this big ol comment but I felt like you'd appreciate it lol, i'm too high and I appreciate a classic western theme way too much haha. I hope you have a good day, Sil!

      okay, so... firstly, its ''desert''. not dessert. Secondly a desert is not always in a warm place. Deserts are in dry places. States like Wyoming, Washington, Oregon and Montana, have deserts, while also having a lot of evergreen vegetation. The fir trees placed in the map by Silv, are probably the most common trees you would find in a desert in northern places (except for cacti). Also tbh i don't know why wild west is generally connected with deserts, the wild west area is pretty much the entirety of the US excluding the original 13 colonies. the only desert like places in the US that is 100% desert would be southern california, nevada, arizona and new mexico. (no not utah since utah has quite a lot of evergreen trees mixed with the desert)

      MovieBoysHD The reasons Wild West = Desert in popular media are (1) Hollywood is in Southern California, so that part of the west is disproportionately represented in the classic Western movie because the studios basically had no work to do (2) it fits well with the theme of the mythical lone gunman archetype, roughing it alone in a stark landscape and a great place to hide an Outlaw hideout away from prying eyes (of course the real farmers and cowboys who made up the majority of the settlers needed fertile farm/pasture land so the desert is basically the LEAST attractive place for them to settle), and (3) it fits well with the kinda desolate post-apocalyptic subtext a lot of Westerns have, being set during or in the immediate aftermath of the Civil War, with refugees from both sides fleeing westward, including several newly-minted outlaws who took some nice military-grade guns with them when the war ended.

    • @Christopher-dd6pd
      @Christopher-dd6pd 5 лет назад +2

      I do agree that trees broke the desert feel/immersion in the map. Places like Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming do all have arid regions but for the most part those areas are void of trees and are grassy and covered in bushes, not trees. You do start to see trees eventually but they’re mostly toward the higher elevations and foothills areas. A great example of this is if you look up the Ponderosa Pine habitat map. You’ll see huge gaps in all 4 states exempt areas of mountainous regions. That being said, it’s a video game and the final map ended up looking great.

    Cheers. Beautiful scenery and indeed epic. From an efficiency point bathrooms and food services work better when they directly face a busy pathway and not on a dedicated path. Peeps will use if they have the need and pass by it and when it is critical they don't necessarily go the closest one and might end going to the other side of the park affecting their happiness.

There's a charm and awe to the compact nature of phantasialand itself that I find a lot of other parks struggle with. When playing rct and parkitect I always use it as a reference for the decoration and ride interactions with one another.

    If the cacti are saguaros, then the park would be in the Sonoran Desert. So think Phoenix or Sonora, Mexico. Plenty of trees. We love to pretend we don't live in a desert. Plus there are scrubby forests nearby that get pretty hot in the summer yet have plenty of trees. I think your interpretation of a desert park is spot on. Either way, I really hope Silv gets to go to Dollywood some day and experience real Southern American hospitality. Also, the style of which most of Dollywood is build in (e.g. the main street area) is more so Antebellum ("old South") and Georgian style I believe, but I could be wrong. It's a gorgeous park, the train ride is amazing (esp. in the fall!), the main street is charming from its bakery and candy store to its souvenir emporium, and the coasters are generally fantastic (though the Lightning Rod is rarely open -_-)

      Basically you build where you want to snap to. Then you select the trackpiece behind and delete backwards to where you want to start the actual track section. Build your actual track towards the free standing piece, and if you aim the track towards it while landing in the general height, it may snap in place as a bit of a helper to close tracks, allowing to build some usually impossible track pieces. Basically abuse of a little helping compromise from the devs.

Maybe an idea for the next possible western/desert theme would be oil derricks and/or oil pumps; though I'm not sure you could make a pump in this game, a tall wooden oil derrick could be a great tall deco piece.

    If you're building monorail coasters, I highly recommend using long trains, a double station for entrance/exit, and at least one MCBR. They're very cheap, compact, and get high ratings but their downside is low throughput, so you want to maximize the amount of trains you can be running and efficiently loading and offloading them. It's one of my favorite coaster types, both from a looks and versatility perspective as well as a mechanical one. :3

    I think the RMC as the third coaster makes alot of sense. It's lower capacity and cheaper than most intense rides making it perfect for parks getting their first big thrill ride.

    The first 5 minutes and I already love the park. Edit: 38:00 I think Vekoma Mine Coasters have a cover over the lift hill because friction wheel lifts only work when they are dry. If they get wet during rain, they have to close the coaster for a while.

    Colorado Adventure (Michael Jackson Thrillride) has some nasty overbanked turns. the train goes through some of them really slow and you cuddle with your neighbor xD
    The themeing could be better, yes. the whole park could use a little bit more themeing imho. it's sometimes a little empty but overall very good.

    "I'm sure this theme isn't that common in America"
    WELL.
    Six Flags parks Over Texas, Over Georgia, Great America, Great Adventure, and Fiesta Texas all have at least one western area.
    Kings Island and Kings Dominion don't have American western themes, but they do have themed areas or at least rides with pioneer esque theming reminiscent of the local area. These being Rivertown and Old Virginia respectively.
    Cedar Point has frontiertown. Hersheypark has a frontier area. Knott's Berry Farm has Ghost Town. Obviously the Disney Parks have frontierland.
    So yeah. You'd be hard pressed to find a large American amusement park without a western, pioneer, or frontier theme.

    Best park so far I think :) I ended up creating an area that was more industrial themed - an "oil mine/rig" area where the desert town struck oil. Can't wait for the next one!

    FWIW, western themes seem to be pretty popular in the US as well, at least if Six Flags is any indication. All three parks I've been to had a "boomtown" or "western" section, and you're right about the theme being used as an excuse to phone in on set piece quality. Even Disney has a western area in each of their various versions of Disneyland. While I wouldn't call their takes "cheap," I think it's probably the least thorough theming in the park.
    I really only know Disney World, but Frontierland there is mostly an overly wide, overly straight concrete path with (well done) Main Street buildings on one side and another land's riverboat on the other. The whole thing feels lopsided, and the heat of the day off that concrete really pulls you right out of the "magic visit to the exotic" each land is supposed to execute.

    I was able to ride Steel Dragon 2000 in the rain repeatedly during the offseason in Japan and it was fantastic with one caveat being that the rain felt like needles at the bottom of the first drop. It felt a little extra wild and exciting though and I would definitely recommend the experience of riding rollercoasters in the rain (especially GCIs). Also I'd love to see you build a water ride or log flume! which you didn't do despite the hot environment!

    40:25 Sil, not trying to be harsh just wanting to help, if you move that S bend, it will end up at the place where the window is now, so you'd need to switch around the window and door, just trying to help!

    Oh boy. I thought I nailed it when I emulated a canyon/mine themed coaster from Phantasialand in Western roundup, but your western town scenery is at least 2 levels higher than mine. Btw, I hope you will soon upload more of this series. Really interested in how you'd decorate HappyCo Harbor, which I struggle a bit with since the theme is pretty bland (bc I decided to keep the style of abandoned industry/factory buildings).

    I wish they'd make a workshop (not the steam one) in game so we could access to creations from other players and upload ours in real time, like in The Sims 4 + I don't mind the 40 minutes videos at all. It is always a treat to watch you create amazing scenarios.
