The object of the game is to roll dice for scoring combination to get the highest total score. Give each player a score card. Each player rolls all 5 dice, the highest total goes first, then play proceeds clockwise. On your turn you roll the dice up to 3 times, stopping before that if desired. You roll the dice out of the cup. On your first roll you roll all 5 dice. Set any keepers aside. The second and 3rd rolls you can re-roll any or all of the dice from any previous roll, setting aside keepers when necessary. You may stop and score after any roll. After the 3rd roll you must score.
For each game there are 13 boxes. You must score a box with an appropriate score or a zero at the end of each turn. Fill in each box only once, in any order depending on your best scoring option.
Once a box is filled you cannot fill it again. A Yahtzee is unique. Getting 5 dice of the same number is a yahtzee. The first yahtzee you enter in the yahtzee box is worth 50 points. For each additional yahtzee you earn a bonus 100 points, but only if you scored a yahtzee in the yahtzee box and not a 0. When you score a bonus yahtzee, put a check in the yahtzee bonus box and take 1 bonus chip and fill in 1 of the 13 boxing on your scorepad.
In addition to the bonus points, you must fiull in a box with your bonus yahtzee. If your bonus yahtzee is in the upper section, score the total of all 5 dice in the appropriate box. If the appropriate box is already taken you score 0 in any other box. Or you may score the bonus yahtzee in the lower section. In the 3 or 4 of a kind or change box, put in the total of all 5 dice. In the Full house, small straight, large straight box, score the total points indicated on the scoresheet.
When every player has had their final turn, add up all the scores applying any bonuses and the player with the most points wins.
If you've never played before, this is almost indecipherable.

The game is really not that hard if you've played it once or twice. The only trouble is doing the math if you've had too much to drink. The upper section (or the first half) is like a simple dice game and the lower section (or the second half) is a reference to poker. If you're not good at math or don't feel like adding it's better to play Uno or another game. Frankly, I find bowling scoring much more confusing if I have to do it manually. Maybe try an online version by yourself first before playing with friends and then it becomes easy.

I'm a college graduate with a degree in Accounting, I passed the CPA exam the first time, and I don't understand how to score after watching that explanation. Maybe you need to simplify it somehow.

Clear as mud. You immediately launch into talking about putting your 'keepers' aside. No explanation provided as to what a 'keeper' is.

As someone with English as my first language, what does "keeper" mean in the context of this game Yahtzee?
He clearly said you roll the dice and set keepers aside. Keepers as in you KEEP favorable dice. You roll the leftover dice until you are satisfied with the dice you want to keep, or you already rolled three times. In that case you have to make do with what you have at that point.
All explained in the video though. Comprehension is so hard.
@@Snarflez "Keepers" as specific dice "kept" after an individual roll is fairly obvious. What conditions would make you want to keep dice? A lower number on the roll? A set of dice with similar results?

My dad made me play 12 games of Yahtzee at once on his birthday many years ago. Yahtzee. The word makes me scream in disgust. The very concept is revolting. Everytime I look at dice I am plagued with the terrible memories of Yahtzee. "Let's play Yahtzee." He would say. "Me no want dice math no." I would say. "It's only 3 games at once." They insisted. Only three games. An hour of my life I will never get back. An hour of ugly sobbing follows after the games. "Me didn't want Yahtzee." I repeat to myself over and over. Me no want. After a good 7 hours of nightmarish restless sleep I regain my will to live. I can hear it though. My dad telling my mom that they should play more Yahtzee. I start to cry. "What's wrong sweetie?" They don't understand. I simply can't look at numbers now without being disgusted. I can't function properly. "P-ppp-p-pen-n-nii-is." I stutter to myself quietly to cheer myself up. It doesn't work. I start to scream. "Will Yahtzee help?" They say. "NSJJDJJSHDHDH" I reply in a rushed manner. "How about 24 games at once?" They ask. "No" I reply hastily. "Let's begin" They say.

Never played Yahtzee in 23 years of my life, but now I have to learn it for a stupid assignment that I have. Kind of funny that the only time I need to know this game is when I study computer science in university.

If you rolled three 5's and two 6's, it's a Full House and it's worth 25 points... or, if 3 of a Kind is vacant, you can fill in that space for 27 points.
If 3 of a kind is vacant it would be scored 3 x 5 or 15. You don't add in the 6's. It is 15 not 27. Full house is 25, correct.
I have some of that adhd thing so... I need a thorough explanation and detailed demonstration about what I have to do with all 5 dice (one by one) once they are on the table, and how to write the score down for each one of them.

You only think it's lame because you're not understanding it. It's actually as simple as poker and very similar. Life tip: Don't knock something until you've actually tried it yourself.

It's video poker where you can get new cards twice instead of once. You get points for having a pair, four of a kind, a full house, etc. You run out of quarters after rounds.

You forgot the 35 point bonus on the upper section where if your total score is greater than 62 (meaning 63 or higher) you add 35 to the total!

I have a math degree and I still didn't quite follow the explanation. Simple rules can seem complex when formatted in a confusing way. They probably don't seem confusing to you because you already know how to play the game. No need to be condescending.

What are keepers… why would the 1s be keepers
way too many points for the extra yahtzee. it effectively ends the game. it's a flaw in the rules. "here's ya go, here's an extra 140 points!, think ya might win now?" proper rules should be you can achieve only one 50 pt yahtzee per game, and any additional 5 of a kind is nothing more than that. it is not a yahtzee and it is played into the category into which it otherwise fits. e.g. 3 of kind, 4 of kind, full house, or top level for the number you got yahtzee on. but NOT small or large straight, that makes no sense. an extra 5 of a kind is still a huge windfall and probably seals the win for you, but the bonus 100 is absurd.
So when do I take the cake out of the oven?

I now know less than I did before. As soon as the numbers popped up on the scoring card, I couldn't backwards engineer what they meant and how it happened well enough to continue the video. This got worse when the yahtzee happened.
