I'm in the USA, and have a region A, 4k player. The Panasonic ub820. Both disc work. When inserting the disc, it goes the a blank player menu, all you do is hit the "top menu" on the remote and takes you right to the DVD menu and everything plays perfect. Just wanted to share this.
I've got mine coming! I now have to buy a region-free player, but first enjoy the sweet packaging and the book! Can't wait. This incredible horror movie has been underappreciated for too damn long!
It’s actually how it was always meant to look, it’s really interesting situation that took a very long time to get made. “‘The Blair Witch Project’ is finally being released in the format its filmmakers intended.” Statement from Mike Monello of ‘Haxan Films’ who produced the movie: In 1999, a group of industry outsiders went into the woods in Maryland to shoot a low-budget horror movie called The Blair Witch Project. 25 years later, that film is finally being released on home video for the first time as the filmmakers originally intended. The Blair Witch Project was filmed on Hi8 video and 16mm b&w film and edited on a Media 100XR, a non-linear editing system in wide use then. Since theaters then did not have video projectors, we had to transfer our DigiBeta master to 35mm film via a process called "telecine, " basically filming the video on a special screen in a controlled environment with a 35mm film camera. We HAD to do that, to play the film in theaters. But when it came time to release the home video and DVD, Artisan made a huge mistake. Instead of returning to the DigiBeta master, they took the 35mm telecine transfer and did a telecine BACK to video. This introduced serious motion errors; it gave the His footage film grain and muddied all the colors with a brown overcast, killing detail. The edits of that transfer became 3-frame dissolves rather than hard cuts! Everything about it is wrong, but at the time, we were not in a position to demand it be redone. Thanks to Second Sight, the film has been re-transferred from the original Hi8 tapes and 16mm film, capturing the true look we wanted 25 years ago. This new Region B edition includes 90+ minutes of unseen deleted footage and a 2.5-hour making-of documentary. The new master is scarier, sharper, and exactly how we dreamed it should be. I hope fans love this new transfer-its look, motion, and hard cuts create a far scarier psychological effect than all previous versions. Will Lions Gate release this version to the U.S. and on streaming platforms? I'd love it if they did, but we have no say. If you're outside Region B/Europe, you can contact Lionsgate on their social channels and request it. We put in a lot of work to make this happen, but none of us earn any money from sales of Blair Witch anything. That's just the reality for first-time filmmakers with no leverage cutting a deal with a studio, but that's another story for another time. Honestly, I'm just thrilled the proper version is now available, and people can see our original intent for home viewing. @@derpleyew We're talking about the damaged VHS effects applied over the footage for the trailer, probably achieved using some effects plugin (they have all the charactertistics of such). It's an odd choice given the whole point is that the analogue tape sources are supposed to be untouched.
Great movie, massively innovative tie-in website too, I recall at the time. Really sorry that Hollywood got their hands on them to squeeze the life out of the franchise and their careers too.
I wish it was region free. I bought the other set that came out from imprint so I can have both films. I know they can't do a 4K due to the quality of the film, but I just use a PS5 and I don't have a region free player so oh well.
I know that this release is marked as Region B blocked, but, anyone did try to watch the movie in a region A blu ray player? I want the movie but my player isn't region free. 😭
Too bad the characters are so fucking annoying. The fake documentary, that aired on TV, before the premiere, was better than the movie itself. It was way overhyped at the time. But still looks like a great edition for the fans.
Such a masterpiece of indie filmmaking.

You can really tell the difference. I am so excited to see the full film this way.

Slapping a bunch of fake VHS static and tracking filters on top of your first trailer for a massive restoration project is definitely a choice lol
Yeah, right? Baffling.
Looks like a big improvement aside looking past all that though.

@@scheeseman486 ahhh I’m with you now, I misread the first comment. Totally agree it’s a strange decision given how much a big deal the rerelease is
I get to see them boogers in 4k at 60fps.

Was it “restored” or slipped thru topaz??
Yeah, because that so clearly looks like they put the old master through topaz. You bozo. 🤦♂️
Holy smokes, this looks amazing!

Ive been asking this around the internet and can't get a straight up answer yet. This is bugging me lol
@@natdaniellewis37 Mine is still shipping. I'll come back and let you know when it arrives. I'm guessing you'll need to buy a region B player though.
@delta1525 thanks, this release is making me lean towards buying one finally
@natdaniellewis37 somebody confirmed to me that it's region free
@@felmonto just ordered from Second Sight so I can stop thinking about it lol
I realize that 4k makes zero sense for a film that looks like complete garbage. HOWEVER no one will buy premium blu ray at this point
