If this is the only car you’ve ever been tucked up we with you’ve done very well
My advice as a retired motor dealer is your first pill is your best pill
Get rid of all that scrap ASAP
stop your missus buying cars and have a strict aged policy with stock cars and trade cars normally 90 days retail
    and 7 days for trade
Your new DMS system will highlight this for you
Good luck keep up the good work mate

@@Gtttts The point is when you get a car in part exhchange which is reasonable but may have issues. By stripping one or two parts which are reasonable in price and in demand can turn a scrap value of £2-300 into £300 + another for instance £3-600 in parts. Bits as simple as a sidestep, tailgate, seats, doors or whatever are worth good money if sold individually. Think you should do research before you completely deny the idea

Sympathise with you Joe, I'm in the car business also. Examples I recall were a Ford Focus trade in. Worth very little but I did ask if the auto gearbox was good knowing they cause trouble. Customer said it was good but I thought I'd drive anyway with it being part payment. Gearbox was indeed stuffed! Customer said they were surprised (as if they hadn't noticed!) because Ford had changed the gearbox twice already!
Another time my colleague had someone trading a Golf GTI 6. Walked around it but didn't drive it. After customer left with his new car he took the GTI up to the shops. No reverse gear! Transpired the car had it's codes cleared the day before. Cost @$3750 to repair. Obviously no chance of come back. Only potential would be that he bought a Jeep which will likely serve up it's own karma I suspect ;-)

Go to a nice restaurant and nobody gives a fly F where you're from, your ethnicity or religion. Go to a spoons or local cafe and it's all they care about because they need someone to blame.
Jason messed up. Those two individuals were dishonest. That's the end of it. Their assumed nationality or language skills shouldn't even be an issue.

Matt from High Peak is a master of buying older cars. I sometimes get mad at just how little he pays for what, on the face of it, its an OK car. But then he goes on, occasionally, to spend far too much on prepping it for resale.
A case in point is for the cars that once were desirable (thinking of the Jaguar XKR) and now have a yearly road tax of £735 if paid all upfront. I love those, I had one, but given the road tax on what would be a Sunday driver, I’m not doing it. Hence a 4.2 car from 2016 with 100k+ miles is practically worthless. I almost bought one. I’m glad I didn’t as it is it worth very much just a few months later.
So old cars? Buy for scrap value.

Always do a quick mot check on everything, p ex or buying in (customers do) you'd have been wise to that, another idea is management checks the p ex while the salesman does the nice stuff with the customer, then salesman is on the customers side against the hard nosed sales manager, you know, sorry manager says this...

I'm actually just working on a micra auto I took in 3 years ago (!) full paint, auto box had a crack in it, sealed with araldite, I've had box off and alloy welded, all this to get my leg out of it(!) bet you can guess where it came from as well(!)

This is the motor trade,BCA and others sell cars like this everyday unseen and unheard on their internet sales which dealers buy every day and then realise what a mistake they’ve made when the vehicle is delivered. There will not one dealer who hasn’t been caught out at sometime so don’t be to sad about it your not the first and certainly won’t be the last to fall foul of these things when dealing with bangers, put it in an auction with a sold as seen no warranty ticket on it,tart it up a little I’m sure some other dealer will snap it up thinking he’s snapped a bargain up,its a tough trade your in and I think paying £600-00 for that car is not the disaster your making it out to be,£600-00 in the motor trade is loose change and you know it or should do,you probably made more than twice that amount on the car you sold him so suck it up and move on,you can’t win them all as I’ve found out over the last 50 years selling vehicles.

They want you to provide terms that virtually guarantees them a perfect vehicle for a decent period of time. Only right they offer px on the same or similar terms. Obviously the buyer can’t warrant the px goods but an assurance it is free from catastrophic fault or serious running condition problems seems absolutely fair to me. BUT as I’ve been told many times …..who wants to get shut of a good motor with plenty of life in it? Nobody ….. perhaps px’s shut only ever be considered as dogs and valued as such….it’s a difficult one though for sure.

Stupid question, I know, as you probably are thinking the same thing. Don't tell me they trailered this shit box to your place and hid around the corner 😅😅. Sad people 😕. When a member of the public sells (trades in) a car to a dealer it is a private sale, caveat emptor, you have no legal recourse, nor can you, as a dealer, legally put anything in the purchase agreement obliging a private seller to essentially offer you a warranty. What you are proposing to do falls under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977, which prevents a trader from imposing terms on a transaction that cause an imbalance to the detriment of the rights of the consumer.

Plenty of others manage including Webuyanycar, I doubt they’re flouting the law

    • @GrahamTWC
      @GrahamTWC 9 месяцев назад +1

@@ShiftingMetal I doubt that very much, as a business you cannot legally demand a consumer essentially provides a warranty on a car sold to you. There’s certainly absolutely nothing in the wbac terms and conditions that states they will or can reduce the amount payable after a deal has been done. As a business the onus is on you to check any vehicle you purchase is to the standard you require - do you demand BCA provide you with a warranty on “sold as seen” cars, would you expect them to refund you money if you discovered a fault on a car sold with no guarantee?
