Taizu Quan or "Southern Taizu Quan" 老架南太祖拳 is one of the major Wushu style of Fujian province. Its influence on other iconic southern style is huge and it has been added to many boxing systems, including the famous Wu Zu Quan (5 ancestors style).
Old Southern Taizu Quan is the original Quanzhou Taizu system from Song dynasty, before it got enriched with other techniques over centuries of History. It also serves as fundamental training in the Southern Shaolin Cai Jia Quan, AKA Hu Ying Quan 虎鷹拳 (Tiger Eagle Fist) system, one of the styles of Master Lu Wenrui 盧文瑞 .
Master Lu is an expert in Hung Gar, Cai Jia Quan, Bai He Quan and Tanglang Quan, and he is one of the best Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor in Taiwan and in south Asia, famous for his bone replacement skills.
    Enjoy!

Thanks for another great video! We treat Taizuquan the same, as a conditioning-focused system to transform the arms into weapons. I also really appreciate the discussion of the history here, as the Song Emperor myth is often encountered.

The Song Emperor myth is actually this history from the Northern Tai Tzu Changquan style.
I do the Northern version, but also learned some of the Southern art. So I have some expertise in both. They are two totally different styles, with totally different development and evolution, just with similar names.
As for the "Conditioning Focus". Yes. theres lots of that. However, i really think the true treasure of the Southern TZQ is in the body mechanics. It has what I would call a "Hard" internal power. Its explosive, powerful and very different than the softness of the Northern style. (The northern is an internal art like a cross between Tong Bei and Chen style Taijiquan)
I feel fortunate to know both, as I feel they represent the Yin & Yang extremes of the Chinese arts.

There is a Tai Tzu Chang Quan that was a collaboration between the Abbot Fu Ju of the Shaolin Temple, and Zhao Kuang Yin, and his top Military Generals. Zhao Kuang Yin taught the monks his techniques, and they choreographed the first forms of the style to codify and document them. Then Zhao Kuang Yin started sending his Generals there to do the same. This started in 960 AD. shortly after Zhao ascended the throne.
THIS, however, is a COMPLETELY different art than the Southern Hakka style Taizu Quan.
    Only the names are similar.

Thank you very much! I do love Choy Lee Fut too, and would love to interview a master here! Unfortunately it's really not popular in Taiwan, so it won't happen anytime soon. But it will happen!
Sanda is already planned with one of Taiwan's top team coach 😁

@@wushuquestofficial that’s interesting about Choy Lee Fut. Would you know why it isn’t popular in Taiwan? I’m just curious on why it isn’t popular.

@@Andrew-qy1kz I think Choy Lee Fut in Taiwan is a perfect example of why some styles are dying all over the world. It was still taught here by the latest generation of masters who came together with Chiang Kai Shek troops and let's say until the 1980s.
But only to a few. Bai He Quan, Tang Lang Quan, Northern Shaolin, and Baji Quan were, and still are, the most popular styles thanks to some really great masters who developed their style a lot and taught to many.
These masters are still very much admired here (Han Qingtang, Liu Yunqiao, Tong Jinlong, Gao Daosheng, Wei Xiaotang, and more!).
Later, Hung Gar also had a great expansion thanks to master Zhang Kezhi who also taught many students. But only a few actually learnt his whole system.
My lion dance Sigung is actually a former Choy Lee Fut practitioner, which he learnt in Taiwan, and started to taught before stopping because, to quote his words when I asked him "nobody can handle the hard training it requires so I don't teach it". It is very sad that some masters are still thinking this way. While I agree in a way and fully understand their feeling as an instructor myself, it undoubtedly leads to the death of many styles, sometimes forever.
I still have hope to interview him regarding Choy Lee Fut, but it may never happen...
Regarding monkey boxing master Jiang, I might ask him for an interview but there already is (or are?) one online by Vaha Fitness I think. He is a very skilled master 👍

@@wushuquestofficial Thanks the reply. I recently started learning Choy Lee Fut at the young age of 49. Infact my background is i started training Pak Mei Kung fu with a friends father here and when I turned 18 been training Muay Thai and recently wanted to learn a Kung Fu style. Having a look around I really didnt feel alot of them were practical in my opinion plus I wanted one that actually is proven and has fought or competed. It's only the beginning and I am enjoying the learning but I must admit hard to break old habits from Muay Thai.
Going back tom that Jiang Master, seen a few of the videos and yes alot of marketing behind the Vaha Fitness business which is to be expected but would be interested in hearing him. He seems to be knowledgeable.
Once again love the channel man keep up the good work.

@@Andrew-qy1kz Very nice background! I love it when people from pure fighting sports are interested in traditional martial arts. It gives me hope for better days haha.
I love Pak Mei and all Hakka styles in general because they're very straightforward. I love Choy Lee Fut as well. In my opinion all styles can be used in fight but it really depends on the understanding of the coach and his ability to adapt the techniques to real modern life situations. And also on the practitioner as well of course. Then, the environment, and fighting conditions (distance, how many people, etc).
Like you, I train Muay Thai and MMA along with my traditional styles, though I put more focus on Kung Fu, just because I love it and it's culture 😁 keep up with that passion you got! Have a great training 💪

To give you an idea, amongst all the people asking him through the years, I'm the only one he accepted besides his children, and it took me 8 months to be accepted.
