In Mexico it's called Raspado. In my hometown the most famous flavor is Gloria (Glory) It's covered in gooseberry syrup, evaporated milk, condensed milk and powdered cinnamon :3 It also has mashed banana at the bottom. It is pretty tasty but a little too sweet. My favorite Raspado flavor is Pineapple.
favorite ice dessert, Halo Halo! It's basically at least 10 different fruits and beans, mixed with a good amount of "purin" or Leche Flan as it's called in our place + milk topped with a scoop (or more) of ice cream. Really refreshing! :D
***** Taro (purple yam) but believe me when i say it tastes nothing like yams i hate yams and Ube or taro is amazing! best filipino thing ive discovered

Ok, I did this and it is wonderful. Its simple and refreshing. I have a different shave ice machine, but i simply put the melon puree in an ice cube tray rather then chef's single serving cup
bingsoo in any flavor is always delicious. i might be a little bit biased cuz i'm korean, but there are so many toppings that can be put on the shaved ice that makes it super delicious. ice cream, sweet red bean paste, whipped cream, mochi, syrup, condensed milk, chopped fruit, chopped nuts, cereal, biscuits, etc.
This will be a good summer recipe for me to try with my Grandmother, she loves watermelon and this is such a simple recipe that requires very little use of the stove, it can get very hot in the south where I live some summers so this works perfect. I was lucky enough to get a hand crank shaved ice maker a few years ago from an international food market that also sold quite a lot of appliances and plates from around the world and they had a good sized Japanese section that had one on the cheap for about...12 bucks.
I love shaved ice; when I was younger, we had a shaved ice machine so every summer was a fun time to look forward to. I've always had just plain ice topped with flavored syrups, and one of my favorites is cherry lime. I've never heard of directly freezing fruit puree and shaving that, so I hope to try it sometime!
My summer favorite back in the Philippines is Halo-halo, it's shaved ice with red beans, varieties of nata de coco and popped rice topped with ube (taro) jam, flan and both ube and mango ice cream with a drizzle of either evaporated milk or condense milk. Then you mix them together, hence the name Halo-halo (mix-mix). P.S. That Watermelon is the most beautiful Watermelon I have seen.
