I have this computer I undervolt it and hit 32k in cinebench R23.. so much power that I decided I dopnt even need hyperthreading, turning it off and still get 28k...this is 30 min testing on cinebench.
I came from a desktop i7-5960x with RTX 2080ti, both cool with AIO, and this thing literally replacing my desktop, I think I may donate my desktop now...
EDIT: retest today -170mv got 33.3k no TPL limited...with TPL limit to 87 PL1 and 104 PL2 getting 30.5k...with hyperthreading of course...very happy.
@@JustADudeGamer my desktop run louuder so i dont mind it, plus when I game I have headphone on so I cant hear anything...I use throttlestop

woo! Thank you Gizmo! Just got my legion pro 7i with rtx 4090. Been waiting for your review on this one.
Hell yea. Life's short and gaming is actually fun and good for the old cranium.
Just ordered this beast.
ETA 2-3 weeks.
Can't wait.
I bought a Slim 7i last week, 13900H, RTX 4070, 16gb ram. Been very impressed with it. Have added a 2TB 980 and am now testing ram to take it to 32gb. This Slim 7i has impressed me so much I ordered a Pro 7i with RTX 4090, 32gb of ram 1TB storage and also ordered a 2TB 980 for it. The Pro 7i is going to replace my old desktop and the Slim 7i is the new mobile lappy.
fyi, you're only getting 3090 desktop equivalent in your Pro 7i.
How is the thermals on the slim 7i.
I’ve hearing lot of overheating issues in multiple forums hence not sure if I should order it.
@@papagen00eh more like a 4080, 3090 is closer to 4080 mobile/4070 TI levels
I got the 7i with 4090 last weekend and wow….amazed by the thermal management and cooling capacity. I played battlefield V at ultra max everything and the fans is barely audible…very2 satisfying performance…unlike those razer blade…paying unprecedented amount of money for underperforming laptop
Can i play BF3 on it? are you serious about what you said about fan noise? what about temp?
should i go for it or legion 9i?
No fingerprint reader? no windows hello?
Custom mode gives you the best performance would highly recommend doing that also I was waiting for this laptop to be reviewed you're videos are amazing Brandon keep it up
Hi there, when using custom mode do you select all sliders to the maximum setting?
Would love to see more videos regarding this laptop
FYI - when you select AI, you can select any of the other profiles/balanced/performance/custom. If you enable AI go to custom and enable all of the thermal limits. Best performance i have gotten has been AI enable Custom - unlimited everything, overdrive enabled, gpu overclock.
Interesting. I assumed it would be active during balance mode so thr AI can shift power around between CPU GPU
@@GizmoSlipTech you will notice it on power draw in balance vs performance. Your frame rates will go up with AI enabled in any mode balanced/quiet/performance/custom - custom is where all of the power limits are at. AI just adapts your power draw for cpu/gpu during operation. if it is a cpu entensive task, it will move the power from the gpu to the cpu or increase the power limits for the cpu if it feels the system needs its.
@@mikemischler2886Would you really want to do that and overclock the gpu....? I wouldn't want to damage any hardware or cause it to overheat lol😅.... what do you think?
@@ricobico1872 its not hard on the laptop to undervolt plus overclock., its an awesome laptop and the cooling on the system is one of the best.
I'm running the 4080 one with a 250mhz core overclock and 400 memory. Temps don't normally go beyond 80-85°C while running superposition so I'd say it didn't affect the thermals much tbh
25:00 same situation with legion 7, very difficult to open this. I think suction cups will work better.
Getting one today (unless weather delay hits UPS). Upgrading from 105 TDP 3070ti msi Katana 17.3 with 12700h. I've been pretty happy with it tbh, but I'm excited for the upgrade
I've had the 4080 version of this for a month now, eventually settled on it, & don't regret it at all. £300 cheaper than the M16 2023 4080, with a better cpu & a numberpad, & better ports.
It's a full function over form laptop.
Nice, do you know if going with the 4090 vs 4080 model is actually worth it?
which monitor should i buy for that model 4080?
@@chicharitotan17 I ended up buying the 27" OLED from LG, 1440p/240hz but you can buy basically anything with it tbf
Now you've had it for a few months how is the keyboard? They look like a laptop I had in the past where the letters/numbers were painted on and would scratch off extremely easy
@@Lo-KeyMuzik exactly the same as it was when I got it tbh.
I haven't noticed any issues with keys at all. The only slight thing I've noticed was an issue I had with the Asus M16 13900h too, & that's sometimes when I type, it's almost like my cursor keeps going backwards so it looks strange when typing, but it somehow sorts itself, so it types correctly, but as you're watching it type it looks weird asf. It's hard to explain... Almost like it lags kr stutters, but it somehow doesn't.
Other than that, just I guess when really cranking the power up but that's expected to a certain degree with laptops, & it's not as bad as I thought it would be
General view is I'm glad I bought it, & glad I went for the 4080 version to have that power overhead compared to what I would've had If I decided on the 4060 instead.
The screen is fine, however because my main gaming display is the 27" LG 240z OLED panel, I've realised how "regular" my laptop screen actually is, hell even my iPad Pro screen looks regular & that's a mini led 😅
But yeah, no faults or major issues with the machine so far & glad I bought it
I really doubt the 100-200 extra mhz the 13980hx gives is causing a 50% fps drop in COD.
There is NOT a mini-led version for sale in the U.S.
I don't know if I'll get a reply from anyone but I'm really stuck between what laptop to get. I want a near top spec laptop that will last many years and can be relied upon. I can get the blade 16/18 4090 scar 18/16 the legion from this vid. My issue is living in the ph there isn't typically repair centres or good warranties since they're usually third party sellers so the reliability is even more important.
Please make a video optimizing and undervolting this thing!
Between Lenovo Legion 7i gen 8 with Rtx 4080 and Msi Raider GE78HX Rtx 4080 which one does it run cooler and quieter? Also which one do you think it’s better?
I wanna see this review too
I think you should save an shoot for a 4090 based on VRAM. These new titles coming out are going to need it, if you truly want a visually compelling experience.
Legion may run cooler and quieter while raider can also run cool around same temps but with louder fans if we consider both fan techs.
Glad I got this wow its stronger than my own pc thats insane...
Can someone more educated than I tell me why the GPU never comes close to 175w power draw when it's advertised as such?
Is the keyboard deck metal or plastic?
Excellent consumer advice 👍
To be really honest,
I wanted to hate this laptop.
Particularly because of the non-centered trackpad alone lol.
But it bugged me that this is currently the best value RTX 4090 175w Laptop around & it’s thinner & lighter than most “thicc boi” gaming laptops with the same specs.
It’s an impressive thing Bruh. Definitely one of a kind. I got the RB 18, but this seems good.
To be honest, I thought non-centered trackpads were awful designs for a long time. Then I had to use my work Macbook Pro 16 on its own without an external keyboard or monitor because of a power outage...and realized that typing on it was a nightmare....
just ordered this from B&H for 2k. 4080-32gb-1T build
Can you do the review of Legion pro 5i also with the Rtx 4070 version if possible? Btw great review.
We will see! Potentially!
waiting for that tuning video pal wanna see if i can eek more porfrmance out of my 4080 legion. got loads of room temps wise
Yeah, my goal is to drop that next week
@@GizmoSlipTech update on that tuning video for the Legion pro 7i?
Time spy looks like a dope video game
Picked up a 4080 version of this laptop. The keyboard has a squish / flex in the WASD area. When any one of those keys is pressed, others in the area also move. Is mine defective or has anyone else also noticed this?
yours is defective mine has none of that
Legion Pro 7i VS ThinkPad P16 Gen2?
B&H has the 4090 on sale for $2499. Just picked 1 up
Not sure why they don't offer these with a 4k oled display, preferably with touch capability.
The screen is the sole reason I haven't bought one. Its too much of a downgrade from my M1 Pro
You went through great lengths to avoid going through the Lenovo Vantage Software to properly enable dgpu. Why take shortcuts on otherwise a great video?
dgpu mode does not impact performance, as best I can tell when I tested it, as this Legion Pro 7i has advanced optimus so there is always a direct connection to the dgpu anyway.
Any plans to make an optimization guide for this?
Yes, today
For everyone who wants it in b&h is 2600 now, 9/6/23, I bought a few hours ago for 2700😢
my dream laptop☺
I have the same issue with the GPU wattage on games only hitting around 80 watts.
It's a known Legion problem.
No matter what settings you are not getting over 100 fps on Warzone.
have you tried changing all voice audio to party only?
do you have a 4050, 60 or 70 series? I hit full wattage with heaven benchmark
@@trilingualkid 4080
In benchmarks there aren't any problems.
Only in certain games there is poor performance, like cod or Fortnite.
Even bringing the resolution down to 720p can't get you over 100fps.
@@JF-if8jh you must be fun at Partys :) although I don't think you're getting invented.
@@AEAE8877 interesting I just played overwatch I'm hitting 152 average and 177 max...what mdoe are you playing it in? did you also update your bios?
which monitor should i buy for this 4080 model laptop?
I would recommend this one most likely: go.magik.ly/ml/1v2qg/
It was on sale for $250 last week. I think it will go on sale again soon. I have ordered one for review, but my fiance Carla has one, and she likes it a lot.
I used your code to buy this computer. Thanks mam.
11+ min question about the 7945HX version....sadly, don't think it's going to happen either. That ship has sailed.
I wonder if I made a mistake getting the Scar 16 4090 🤣
everything but screen. why lenovo why. please launch mini led
This laptop is on sale both at B&H and microcenter... Any preferences?
Got it from microcenter for 3k usd with tax...with rtx 4090...amazing laptop, high quality and performance
@@elvirmuratovic8772 What about the issues reported on warzone and low GPU use? can you check upon that? thanks!
@@elvirmuratovic8772 I would return and get 4080..the performance between 4080 and 4090 is 5% at best...and you will save quite a bit...
@@trilingualkid yes i know before i bought it, i just wanted more VRAM, thats it..
@@JustADudeGamer tnx for that info, didnt know that :)
This laptop is goddamn sexy, especially that light bar ! Can't wait to receive mine!
Any news on the AMD Ryzen 9 version? I hear the battery life is 2X
I won’t give a penny to AMD. Idc about their battery life thing. AMD chips always have less performance, low quality and problematic software.
@@ThePatrioticOguzYT AMD is much better than Intel dude!
@@eichof01 believe me, I used 3 laptops all equipped with ryzen cpu and radeon gpus, now this year I bought a laptop with intel + nvidia and I’m much happier with this set. Battery life may be higher in amd because their performance is limited while intel and nvidia products can drain your battery for a tremendous performance. I would rather play at 60 fps for an hour than playing at 10 fps for 6 hours.
Thanks for the livestream!
I have a 2021 Legion 5 pro chosen largely from your review on it and it looks like the build quality is very similar to this pro 7i. Shame they downgraded some features from the old pro 7i. Really wanted a larger screen model like the strix 18 but it has way to many issues with backlight bleed, etc.
The HP omen 17 4090, 32GB, 1TB is $450 more than the pro 7i with same specs. As nice as itd be to have a bigger screen it looks like its not worth the price and downgrade in screen brightness/quality. At least I am familiar with the legion series and the ports are almost the same which I do like. Mostly rear ports are the way to go.
Wow temps are impressive. Prolly the best this gen. Which is sick considering the lower price of the legion compared to some toasty others
GT77 definitely had better temps, but yeah, these temperatures are very good, especially for the size.
@@GizmoSlipTech yes but gt77 is like twice as big, loud and expensive 😁
If you can get a bigger table, and clip ur mic around your Tshirt, and remove the bottle that might look more clean. lol
this machine can run 100+ FPS on COD Warzone on 4K
That's not 4k, it's 1600p (QHD for 16:10 ratio)
Hi guys, anyone has noticed and know how to fix the battery drop on the Legion 7i Pro 4090? it's the second laptop i get with this problem...
4080 have the same problem. I think it is a common issue for models with 4080 and 90.
@@wtdlife9554 Thanks for feedback! I thought it was only a 4090 issue...in your opinion can it damage the battery, pc hardware etc..or cause performance drops?
@@cat18o Damage the battery? I think yes. And it will cause performance drops when the battery is too low and enters power-saving mode. But to speak frankly, I don't know whether it will damage the hardware...Hoping Lenovo can fix it one day, like providing a new power adaptor or something
@@wtdlife9554 I hope so too because as a gaming performance it's a really great machine...i don't care about the downgrade from the 2022 model less rgb etc...but this is a big issue!
@@cat18o Agreed. I really like the GPU and CPU temp on this machine, I hope this problem can be fixed so that I don't have to return it
Concerned about the issue with warzone... can people ellaborate / confirm this?
Basically, the GPU wattage did not push past 90W, reducing its potential performance. Possible driver issue or some setting not correctly set in bios/vbios when a game uses heavy CPU usage. The CPU was over 100W.
@@GizmoSlipTech bummer, I play a lot Warzone and was analyzing on gaming the deal...
@@GizmoSlipTech I had the exact same issue. A rollback to pre 530 Nvidia drivers fixed the issue for me with a clean install - try that. Then I saw the wattage being pulled correctly.
On the latest Nvidia drivers it's working fine for me. 3440x1440 pushing 140-150 fps in modern warfare 2 2022 maxed settings+ DLSS Quality
I've had the 4090 7i pro for a week now, Does not play audio when outputting on hdmi to a tv at 120hz.. There are loads of threads on this problem. USB audio out also randomly stutters. Spent 8 hours trying to rollback drivers, change settings. Classic example of Lenovo releasing a product and not testing it. Im returning it back for a refund.
So weird! At least you can return for refund! I admit I did not test this. Did you try outputting with USB-C displayport to HDMI converter?
Fyi, laptop 4090 is about the same as desktop 3090. it's a scam.
breaking news - laptop doesn’t perform as well as desktop counterpart? Interesting.
lol
Yeah, a 3090 you can take anywhere you want to go in your backpack!
Its actually around 15% better in performance and you dont even realize you're making the case for the laptop. One giant rig vs a laptop. Just one generation making up the difference is incredible. That'd be like saying if a new Ipad came out, and it was only as strong as the strongest laptop of the year prior, that it's a scam lol. It's unbelievable progress that dudes who dont travel, just won't appretiate.
Something I needed to ask, can the thunderbolt 4 slot on the side support 1440p @ 240hz if using a USBC display port hbr3 cable to a 1440p/240hz monitor?
Yeah, display port 1.4 supports 240 hz QHD and 120 hz 4K. Thunderbolt 4 supports display port 1.4
I can confirm both of the USB C ports on this laptop were able to push the full 3440x1440 @ 175 Hz output to my monitor + G-SYNC enabled, HDR supported.
