    "And the manuals specifically say that"!
    I can't believe I'm this day and age, with all the material that you folks have shared on your website that you still have to argue the point!

      Fortunately that issue is largely resolved these days, but sometimes its worth a reminder so we don't see such silliness again.

    Thank you for sharing this with us. I have been curious about those sharp simulators for a while now. Great info and presentation. Greatly appreciate this channels content. Cheers!

    That's actually a very good idea. Makes perfect sense...

    One issue they have is your opponent will have a degree of control over your blade when you slide using the back of your blade. Other than that they look like really neat training tools to have in a club.
    I think it doesn't solve the "bouncing" so much as redirects it. Instead of bouncing away from the flat surface, sword connect on each other teeth's slopes, and the blow is deflected towards the dents, so the sword will bounce multiple times (being robbed of it's energy each time) towards the blade, instead of bouncing once away from it.

    This video made me want to try some Mordor ale. I'm not into synthetic HEMA gear (most people where I live aren't), but I'm into ale

    My question doesnt really have something to do with the Sharp Simulators but, have you tried the "Edge Shaped" option on any sword from Blackfencer? If yes what are the differences in Feel weight flex pob etc?

    • @AcademyofHistoricalFencing
      @AcademyofHistoricalFencing  4 года назад +2

      Yes. the spadroons are made that way and the rapiers too. I find the spadroons exceptionally good. It's hard to compare weight as I;ve not had the same models with each edge profile. I have handled one of their lightweight sideswords though. Overally more rigid in the fortte with a little more flex in tip. Edges can take a little more damage against bucklers and the like but barely noticeable.

    I don’t know whether I should get the sharp sim Sabre or normal one like which gets you the best bang for your buck is the regular Sabre or the long sword I really do not know which gets me the best value and versatility

    • @AcademyofHistoricalFencing
      @AcademyofHistoricalFencing  3 года назад +1

      If it is your first sabre then the regular one. As for sabre vs longsword, that entirely depends on the club you attend and your own preferences, though a sabre is generally more versatile. as it can be used for dussack and sword and buckler if need be, whereas a longsword really only works for longsword.

      @@AcademyofHistoricalFencing yeah so there aren’t any clubs near me which is unfortunate but I think I am gonna go for their light long sword I feel it would provide a little more than a sabre but I will definitely get their saber after like 5 months of using the long sword I think I am going for the longsword sharp simulator but I have no idea what a protector cap is haha thanks for your response love your channel

    The knucklebow is quite generous, can it fit spes heavy gloves? What gloves are recomended?

    How does a strip of velcro binded along the length of the edge sound? Problems I can see are the strips becoming worn or falling off, but I often wonder how velcro's stickiness would work in this case.

      it would be like sandpaper against fencing jackets, and yeh going to be a pain to maintain.

      people tried putting sandpaper glued to the synthetic edges, and yeah it's hell to the jackets but they bind to each other enough so you can have a really great experience when sparring. Mind the jackets tho...

    Sooo is there anybody who actually makes blunt AND flamed steel weapons (like the nylon sharp-simulator but made of steel)?

    • @AcademyofHistoricalFencing
      @AcademyofHistoricalFencing  4 года назад +1

      I've seen a few yes, though there was also a nasty injury caused by one last yesr. Not with us but another HEMA group posted about it. The issue was that being steel it had to have very thin edges to maintain a good weight and rigidity.
