Was at the England/Scotland game 1975. He was magnificent, scored in 5-1 win for England. In the literal sense, he was like 12th man, he was in defence, mid-field joined attack, headed great goal. Not an Ipswich supporter, but I love and watched much football, and have never seen such an all round performance. I would think he would be the nearest player we've had to Duncan Edwards, who I've only seen clips of. But very strong , great distribution and natural leader were present in both.
Terry Venables once said that Kevin Beattie could have become another Duncan Edwards if he had managed to avoid so many injuries. There can surely be no greater compliment to Kevin than that. As Venables said, 'what a player that Beattie was!'.
Not an Ipswich fan but April 75 Elland Road FA cup 5th round, Score 1-1aet, I witnessed Kevin play one of the finest defensive performances I've ever seen by anyone. I really thought that he'd go on to be an all time England legend but sadly it never turned out that way.
Extensively researched ??? After 10 seconds shows a picture of Russell Osman then claims Beattie was 6-2 ! As a lifelong town fan found this embarrassing
Probably the greatest player to ever pull on an Ipswich shirt. He could defend and attack and a superb passer of the ball and with Big Al beside him equal to any defensive partnership then or now. I know he had real problems with his knees and had steroid injections on many occasions to keep him going. We are indeed indebted to a genuine hero. So sad he is no longer with us.
Bill Shankly tried to sign him. It was agreed Beattie would be at Lime Street station at a given time, and someone from Liverpool F.C would meet him. That person never turned up, so Beattie went home. A few weeks later Shankly gave him his train fare back.
A great player from a legendary Ipswich Town team alongside Osman, Gates, Marriner, Whymark, Talbot, Brazil, John Wark and the 1978 FA Cup goalscorer Roger Osbourne ateam that could hold its own against the then mighty Liverpool and Michael Caines body double in the film Escape to Victory
Shame that it is a US AI narration. What You Tuber creators have to realize is we don't mind what your voice sounds like or get a friend or relative. It's important to remember players who left everything on the field - and paid for it later - at a time when wages were shite.
@@Gary66246 Fair comment , but it is a bit....OTT , good tho' he was IMHO . I suppose he played in that Cup Final when Osbourne (?) seemed to get overcome by emotion . I watch Huddesfield , we get undercome by emotion . Best .
One of the best I have ever seen. This is from an Evertonian R.I.P Kev.

Well, Bobby Robson, who played with Duncan and managed Kevin, said that Kevin was the better of the two.
As a long time Ipswich supporter he is simply the best player a true legend our hero
My favorite player of all time. Thanks ☮ for many joyous times in the 1970s,Kevin. R.I.P

Kevin was not as cynical as some others from that era !!!!

Stop it with the ‘sad’ nonsense, your reporting is sad
They always put that, for some reason - very annoying.

Terrible narration that waffles on and repeats itself over and over again.
