I sincerely mean this and I’m not trying to be an asshole, but how is the experience that bad? I’ve been on Windows 11 since release and I game daily and I can’t think of a single issue I’ve had.
@streetmp search is barely usable, the settings app is still a disaster and incomplete, the right click menu sucks, and there are a few others. It's not the disaster some make it out to be but it's far from perfect. I'd say win10 did most stuff better, apart from the core scheduler
I think that they want to introduce ads to be able to pay the AI expenses that will be used in the next Windows version. Additionally they can add some subscription for removing advertisement and continue using AI functionality. Or for example they can add an option to disable advertisement but at the same time disabling the AI functionality in the OS
I use Windows 11 in the office and Windows 10 at home. They are the same.

It's going to be horrible, windows x86-64 translation is still bad, like really really bad, so even thought some programs and apps will work kind of fine, you will still be unable to use 90% of all software ever written for windows

Well more and more people are moving to ChromeOS, aka Linux, so soon Windows will became the niche.
Especially since Google is playing the long game by providing schools with Chromebooks so the new generation will be more accustomed to Linux experience than to Windows.
All we need now is for Proton to run on arm.
@@hubertnnn ChromeOS and Linux are completely different things and Windows won't become a niche in the near future. While Linux gains traction slowly it needs some more decades to replace windows for the majority of people. It has to work even for the most casual humans out of the box and has to support all the stuff that most companies use. Office, teams, onedrive, azurer stuff and all games have to work without tinkering

I always had a hard time hearing them, and the automated closed-captions *never* worked right with the sidekick not having their own mic. Seems like they could find a good balance, tho -- have their own mic but stand a couple steps back so it has that same yell-across-the-room effect, just not so severe, so the automated closed-captions could pick it up properly.

@@mikhailp3088 Keep in mind that this wasn't probably Asus personnel itself and just an authorized ASP/technician, and when GN filed the dispute, that's when Asus staff/manager jumped in and proceeded with normal repair, if you see GN's video, they did repair the Ally (MB+ both joysticks+both IO), but yeah, not the best customer experience though.
Asus: I know why we have a warranty. Gamers Nexus: I don't think you do.

With ASUS, as for their official claim, they did do the "fix the joystick" part free of charge before proceeding with the whole scheme.
Correction: *after.* They didn't even acknowledge the issue the device was sent in for until GN "declined" the "out-of-warranty" repair.

the higher the likelihood of me seeing an ad in windows, the higher the likelihood I will look more into using Linux.
If you're on the fence at all, you can always play around with it in VMware or VirtualBox before changing your system. Linux Mint is an excellent starting point for windows users if you need a suggestion.

Stuff like PopOS works amazing out of the box(while being customizable) and is an awesome improvement over Windows in sooo many ways + its free, more stable and secure

@@crazydude5825But remember VM can never give the same performance not compatibility with any OS in general. If OP gets a bad experience in VM (eg. The iso doesn't behave well in VM) he will never try linux again.
@@BeastViper007 all true. But it's pretty much the only safe way for an average computer user to try it out before committing. Something like dualbooting runs the risk of messing up windows if you aren't careful in how you set it up.

Most mainstream distros already ship with os-prober pre-enabled for dual booting stuff.
A little while back I was considering finally moving to Win 11, but then all this stuff with ads happened.

When I sent my MSI laptop in for a *warranty repair,* they _not only_ fixed the problem *for free,* they even *replaced the entire screen assembly* because the outer shell was _lightly damaged!_

@@AdamSmith-gs2dv Depends on how they implement secure boot, since there are Linux distros (like Ubuntu) that work with it enabled on x86. It's of course possible they will try and prevent people from installing other OSs, but secure boot itself doesn't necessarily do that... though I guess it can, if the implementation is strict enough.

linux won't achieve mainstream adoption in the consumer space until hardware support improves drastically.

Hardware support is very close, in many cases even proprietary drivers designed for windows work better on linux.

I was about to say how stupid that would be, but looked it up and it's not just 5 years. Protection is generally 2 years in Norway, only something that is meant to last longer as part of what it is that has 5 years.
It's consumer protection rather than warranty, and is not as simple as a warranty.
Technically consumer protection actually covers anything at all for 6 years in the UK. But it is complicated and situation dependent.

Allegedly yes, though, I'll only believe it when I see it. I never had problems with my computers doing that, but I still hear some people have those problems. Though, it's worth noting, it's not microsofts fault, aparently it's the fault of manufactors saying misconfiguring their sleep levels on the BIOS level.
Install Ubuntu arm and tell systemD to sleep and then hibernate 5 minutes after lid close! Fixed.

I remember like 2 years ago I had to RMA my Asus gaming laptop for a weird problem, where the entire thing would drop to 2fps even on desktop sometimes. It took maybe like 7 RMAs before the issue was finally gone

It will never be good from Microsoft, I believe developers will eventually port their software and then the community will write a translation layer for old software that actually works, but Microsoft has done nothing substantial for more than 10 years

I use local playback frequently. I have a sizeable media library on my computer because locally stored files do not suffer compression, they do not require a subscription, and I actually own my media.
Don't they record videos with their mobile phone or mirrorless camera?

I had a very similar issue with my brand new ROG Strix, the right channel speaker blew out within a few days out of the box, and they basically refused to fix it under warranty. So to this day, I still use the laptop with the blown out speaker. So much for buying brand new am I right?
