I’m not a pro, but I def agree that the Audio Advice settings while slightly darker appear better and show better definition, and not blown out.
In my opinion the default settings are usually better, not always but in the vast majority. In the suggested settings a lot of details are just "ink black". In both cases there is too much red.
That's cool, but without the settings details this is not very useful to folks.
somewhere between the two.
I agree!
Improved contrast but way too dark. For example at 5:14 and at 5:32 you can’t see the faces at all vs the factory settings the faces are clearly visible. Factory seems to be a touch blown out but afterwards it’s gone way to far to the dark side.
Agree the better option is somewhere in between. The default is too blown out losing the white detail, but the audio advice setting is equally losing too much black detail.
Agree 100%.
Great Video and the post calibration just looks better overall! Do you have a link to where to get the Audio advice Recommended settings?
Stock setting definitely seem to blowout highlights but I think the Audio Advice settings look too dark especially in darker scenes but that might be an effect of being side by side. I think there might be a compromise in between the two.
When you say default settings which mode is that referring to?
There are quite a bit of settings that were changed so it’s not just one area in the menu.
@@Youthman I’ve got the 3100 (NZ8 equivalent) that was calibrated by ChadB. This was pre-2.0/2.1 FW so I prefer using Mode 3 now but even relying on the newer Auto (Wide) HDR setting I find that blows out highlights and (Normal) makes it too dark. I still manually set the HDR quantizer by preference depending on title. Hopefully the new FW scheduled this fall makes it better.
Really great video! It was great to see both settings side by side! We're glad you're enjoying the new projector 😁
Thanks! I definitely love what I’m seeing and appreciate the setup and installation guides you offer for your customers. It’s especially helpful for guys like me that are not what I would consider videophiles.
I’m sure it looks even more Amazing in person.
It actually does. More shadow detail in person too.
I like the darker image but most people probably like the brighter image. I have OLED tvs that's why I chose darker image. 😊
it's true that there is more contrast and more detail, but the white now tends to be less white and more similar to grey, I think a thorough calibration for the gamma is needed
On my display, the AudioAdvice recommended settings are giving you natural colors foremost. Yes it has less brightness and some detail looks to get lost in the darker areas, but this may be negated in a dark room. Anyway, I greatly prefer the canned AudioAdvice settings. I'm sure a custom calibration would give you the peak viewing experience, but for a free recommendation, I'd say the results are great.
Audio Advice is better...but i would still increase brightness a bit.
I would probably meet the settings somewhere in the middle of the 2 because it seems movies these days are filmed dark for the drama effect. Some really good movies are actually filmed too dark for my liking and while I might really like the movie that makes it hard to really 100% enjoy watching. Those comparisons lose detail in the shadows with the input setting while the factory setting like you said get washed out in the whites, IMO.
Hey Michael firstly greetings from Adelaide Australia.
On my Panasonic OLED which has been calibrated it appears JVC settings "out of box" look a lot better in nearly every slide you presented.
There appears a deal of black crush with the Audio Advice settings in the darker scenes.
A lot more pop with the non Audio Advice settings and detail.
I even got my wife to comment and she said the right of screen settings (Audio Advice) look a lot darker and less detailed and left of screen looks a way lot better.
Micheal, I'd like to see the brightness turned up just a bit from the A-A settings. However, I am very interested in seeing the outcome of Ryan's calibration. I bet it will be fantastic! All the best, Kevin
hi Michael, I come from a Broadcast background and the gamma definitely seems to be corrected on the audio advice settings, but I wonder if your camera is compressing the black sum you can see detail with your naked eye that we can’t see in the video but I definitely prefer the audio advice settings
Hey Jerry, you are correct. My eyes were definitely able to see much more detail in the darker areas than what my camera is able to capture. Would that be dynamic range limitation on my camera?
@@Youthman yes I believe that's correct. Stunning video. Enjoy. It will be fun to see how further tuning that Ryan does improves it even more.
Strikes me as a bit too dark overall. Prefer the brightness. So something half-way between, perhaps?
Definitely looks a lot more Natural
so you paid 15k for 2500 lumens, your wasting your money, for that price i have got a 15,000 lumen laser 3LCD that has sharper images
Enjoy your 3LCD
Audio Advice settings look natural. Default is overblown on colors and brightness. I gotta say. Dang thats a great picture!!! 😀👍
Gimme the default settings and its still 100x better than my 15yr old JVC DLA hd950 😅😂
Default settings still look great.
Default settings look better on my 150” ALR screen and NZ8.
AA settings look too dark.. I love this particular video because I’ve used it to calibrate many projectors. (Not professionally) just using Spears & Munsil disc.
great video as always. I would say faces look better on the default and scenery looks better on the AA settings. However I'm viewing it on my laptop as well so I think people forget that has a part in what you are seeing on youtube.
RUclips compression and my eyes having more dynamic range than my camera to record.
I bought my JVC NZ8 from Audio Advice and followed the same set up guide. One of the things it does is to maximize contrast for any given brightness level. In this video the better contrast looks darker. But if you think its too dark, just follow the same instructions but use a higher nit level as your base. You can set any nit level using their guide based on what I did. Anyways, great video.
Curious what’s your settings are, I have an RS3100/NZ8 as well
I will go for default settings. Audio Advice settings are darkening the pic. They may be better for
a very dark room.
Here is an updated video - ruclips.net/video/wLwQTcfL9CY/видео.htmlsi=kYBl4Qgp-dI3mVXL
Hi Michael, AudioAdvice's calibration is definitely much better; It is true that in very dark scenes there is a slight loss of details; and you would like to have more brightness there, but in bright scenes the contrast is much richer and the colors appear closer to reality.
By the way, thank you for showing the beautiful images of my country Peru.
Oh wow! Your country is GORGEOUS! I actually just edited another video using that footage. About to upload it now.
I’m liking the audio advice settings over the default.
I would say the proper settings should be somewhere in between the two. Default setting might be a hair too bright but the AA setting were too dark to me. But then again I'm not in the room viewing the split screen, so your camera/my monitor might not be showing the true picture either.
Default settings for sure lol
Is there an in between setting haha the colors and detail on the Audio advice settings are more natural but some of the color seems lost a little. The white is more blown out but damn those colors pop on the default. If there was an in between you would likely have the best balance
I think something between the two settings would be ideal. I’d say the Audio Advice shots look a little dim and blacks get a little crushed.
From what owners say in the AVS owner’s forum, the NZ series is great out of the box. They measure well, too. A couple of my favorite greyscale scenes are the snowy mountain scene in Inception and the snowy forest in Dances With Wolves. Both would look phenomenal on your Cinescope screen. Hoping to upgrade to an NZ in the near future myself.
Amazing projector - even though nothing else comes close at that price - my god it’s not cheap
AA settings are obviously too dark .. that is bright weather but it looks like bad weather. Default is bad whites as you explained as well. Invest in a proper calibration, always worth it - or buy a sensor and do it on your own (i am minute 6 now)
Monkeys, cats, and people look better with stock settings. I think a dark movie would be too dark with the Audio Advice settings.
Audio advice settings
Jvc default all day 👍👍
Agreed. Doesn't matter how good it looks if it's in the dark.
Amazing projector man. Theres too much contrast on the right image, you're losing detail in the black.
I prefer the AA recommended settings on landscape shots, but the default settings are much better everywhere else, especially on darker scenes.
If I were you I would probably wait until after the new software update to do any calibrations.
I probably won’t have anyone calibrate for a long time so we will calibrate it this week when Ryan is visiting.
@@Youthman well write down your settings, because the software update will change them all anyway. When I had my nx7 I lost all my calibrated settings when the update came out. I promise my self I would wait with my NZ8.
I have the NZ8 as well and used the settings from another video. I’m going to give the Spider a go. Too bad your setting’s can’t be shared. 😊
Go back to the left one , to the bright side.... it,s more real, sunny light is very bright in real.. the new setup look like a filter in the camera who make fake dark unreal color
I think it comes down to a preference with a brighter default version you're going to lose little bit of detail but you get a brighter picture but the darker version is more cinematic so I would probably flip a coin lol
If you really want your protector to perform. Check into the Lumagen processor. Pricey. But They can do Magic tricks!!!. Look up Craig Rounds calibration. from Chicago. He's the Man
This week, I will be putting my madVR Envy Extreme back into my setup.
Please show all 3 when you get it fully calibrated
Assuming the reality translated accurately to video, default settings look a bit blown out at times, but the AA settings are crushing blacks. You're losing shadow detail. Something in between the two is probably ideal. Hopefully you're able to dial it in with Ryan.
Unfortunately, my camera was not able to provide the amount of dynamic range that our eyes have. The AA settings are definitely darker, but not as dark in the shadows as shown in the video.
I'm with the folks saying you should re-balance and meet in the middle of both settings. There is too much clipping on the left and crush on the right.
Did you watch the latest video?
Factory settings are definitely over brightened and slightly over saturated with color but i actually prefer a little extra color myself
Just curious. Are these AA settings public? Something we can find on their website?
These are settings they sent to their customers when you purchase one of their projectors, or AVR’s.
Excellent, glad your enjoying it. Realistic sunlight is what I like. Many ideal settings ruin sunlight, turning a sunny day into an overcast one. Set up a camera in your backyard and live stream it to your theatre, duck out, and see if what looks real. Real, can be a bit glary.
obviously the audio advice setting is better but it shows the lack of light out put capability of the projector.
Actually, that is not the case. The projector is plenty of light output capability. It’s the cameras limitation in dynamic range to be able to capture it.
I’m looking at moving from a Panasonic 8000u to buying a JVC NP5 or NX5. I think that should be more than enough for my 123” screen. Do you remember how big of a jump it was from the Panasonic to a jvc? I believe you had a Panasonic at one point?
Yeah I'd say some where between the two
When calibrated, most projector will have a drop in lumens and that is unavoidable. It may appear darker at first look but the colors will be more accurate and contrast improved to provide a more balanced HDR imagery w/o highlights being blown up (clipping in technical term) during brighter scenes. The night scenes will improved as well.
Youthman shredding on those guitars 😂
Hi Youthman , I believe somewhere in between with contrast and brightness would be my preference. Slightly dark in some of the audio advice scenes.
AA setting seem to be more realistic to what you see with naked eye. Wish they would have provided settings for my Epson LS11000 when I got it.
Stunning picture. I do prefer the Audio Advice settings. Much better contrast and definition. I have experience with Audio Advice and they are outstanding. Strong recommend.
What did they have you change? Gamma, color temp, brightness, contrast?
Gorgeous picture -I prefer the right. Although some scenes are a bit dark, it still feels more natural.
Congrats on the new projector.
I agree. And in person it won't look that dark. Its getting video of a video and then compressed so what we see is likely way darker than what Michael sees in person.
That is correct. That’s why I posted a new video today. Be sure to check it out.
I think a perfect example of black levels isn’t everything is with the tiger’s face. There is a strand of brown hair in the middle of a black patch h under his eye I could see in the default setting. With the audio advice settings I am not able to see that hair. Somewhere in the middle is probably the right answer.
Audio Advised set up crush shadow detail on some scenes. Would love to see what Ryan got out of it
Unfortunately, we spent probably four or five hours trying to calibrate, but we kept running into issues. I made an updated video before he came to visit - ruclips.net/video/wLwQTcfL9CY/видео.htmlsi=hh9kGDCTQYKCJY7Z
Factory settings looks way better than Audio advice settings
I made a second video - ruclips.net/video/wLwQTcfL9CY/видео.htmlsi=W6-AAcdPtR3ZlT77
For me it needs to be somewhere in the middle of those images. Ones too blown out, the other is crushing black but not terrible by any means. Fantastic PJ.
The moon it looks totally different AA win,but AA too dark
Thank you for sharing 😊
Like the detail in the recommended settings and although at first it may seem to dark, in a light controlled dark theater it probably is about right. In a brighter room with some natural light it's probably too dark for that setting.
Details are missing out in the Audio Advise setting. It's too dark.
It is darker however my camera doesn’t have enough dynamic range to properly expose the darker areas in clips. So in person, there is more detail in the darker areas.
How that possible its really other world from same machine.
Here is an updated video - ruclips.net/video/wLwQTcfL9CY/видео.htmlsi=BaibV4YjIwHe6dT4
magic. always interesting to see diy calibrations. since 1988 we’ve had a couple of dozen projection systems in our HT, and have never had the guts or bandwidth to learn to do that stuff on my own. i’ve rarely ever even looked at a projection setup menu. 😁 with the Nz9/madvr addition, it became even more intimidating. we will just continue to leave the calibrations to the certified pros with the van full of toys. 😃📽️🎞️🍿
The details in the scene with the moon really stand out with AA settings. AA settings bring out more details imo.
Their setting is so dark!!
Can you do a comparison of the NX7 and NZ8? Or did you sell the NX7?
NX7 was sold awhile back.
Okay thanks.
Prefiero default settings
Hey Michael, are you using the MadVR in the demo?
No, I wanted to see how the factory settings compared solely to the Audio Advice settings. I also posted an updated video here - ruclips.net/video/wLwQTcfL9CY/видео.htmlsi=EG1Ev4cA0qkfx8is
@@Youthman I looking forward to seeing how the MadVR adds to the material.
I love that projector
some people say the right is too dark but it’s impossible to tell on a recording of another image, but the right is obviously the better settings to have and Ryan will no doubt do a great job of calibrating the projector. A MadVR would definitely enhance that picture. Especially with the 3D Lut calibration. I’ve got the new motionAI running on mine too and my video cannot be bettered imo. I’m running an NZ8 too
I’ll be connecting my Envy Extreme
@@Youthman 😍
Moon scene is the money shot! 8:42
Can you share the settings?
This is a service that Audio Advice provides specifically for their customers who purchase a projector or AVR.
For me looking at those images there is no doubt that the Audio Advice settings are way too dark and there is so much lost details in all the dark and shadow areas. I’m not even sure how that is not as clear as day…come on people.
Keep in mind my camera is not able to capture exactly what my eyes are seeing it in person. Audio Advice settings are darker but my eyes can easily see details in the dark areas that are not picked up on my recording.
Thanks!
Thank you for the super thanks David!
Definitely the audio advice settings. I agree the stock is blown out a bit.
