Super easy and satisfying project! My bushings were surprisingly in good shape even after 370k miles. Still an improvement with new bushings. Thanks for the video!
hey i was driving my 1986 e30 and the pedal bent on me and was all outta wack so i replaced it and now it is starting to bend and it doesn’t even wanna go all the way down or come back what are some things i should be doing or looking at 😅
There is still some free play in the bar where you have replaced the bushings. Mine has this and I thought there was something wrong with it but seemingly not. It appears there should be some free play in this linkage for some reason. Thanks for video.
The Guy Who Does Stuff Well I'm the proud owner of a UK spec 1990 318is and I'm just trying to absorb as much info as possible! Thanks for getting back to me. My to-do list at the moment is: front brake discs, rear sway bar bushes, rear wheel bearings + small power steering fluid leak (possibly the reservoir?)
harrycg95 I've done rear and front sway bar bushes...not a hard job. You'll do great! Also swapped steering rack for an E46 330i ZHP rack (better than standard E46 rack). I also did new hoses and reservoir.
I had to pull my pedal assembly out because the bracket they are in cracked near the clutch master and couldn't get full travel on the master so clutch was engaging way down at the floor and wouldn't come all the way up plus I noticed the brake pedal squeeking a little as I pressed it harder. They are metal bushings so you shouldn't find them falling apart like the urethane throttle shaft ones. You may want to lube them though. You'll have to remove the whole assembly I think to get enough room to pull the through bolt that they pivot on, I don't think you have enough room to pull it out with the bracket still bolted in. I needed to remove my bracket to weld so I didn't try taking the bolt out in the car.
C'mon, be a man and get the grease on your finger to smear it on the bushing dude. :) You can wipe it off after with a rag. My 85 e30 pedal shaft clip is on the other end. I found the broken bushing on the carpet after I had to remove the pedal bracket for the clutch and brake pedals after it cracked where the clutch master attaches and I wasn't getting full travel so the clutch was engaging way down at the floor plus the pedal wouldn't come fully up to the top and press the switch so my cruise control wouldn't engage unless I pulled the clutch pedal back with my foot while driving. I should invest in a go pro or something to video my own repairs and post them. 365k miles and 35 yrs. on the bracket so I can't complain. Also a good time to replace the bushing that the cable goes through on the arm that sticks up, it will leave you stranded if it disintegrates and crumbles as they eventually do. I had one on my wifes 90 conv. e30 fall apart and being a convertible (with an automatic trans.) I was able to fold up a business card or something (don't remember) and stuff it into the throttle stop to hold the engine RPM at around 2k and drove it home like that, just real slow. I wish they would make all those bushings out of rubber or hard plastic instead of the urethane (I think that's what they are) so the wouldn't just crumble with age. That's the same issue with the odometer gears and a guy sells them as everyone knows by now, www.odometergears.com that he makes from hard plastic. I've used them in both my Porsches and both E30s. Thanks for doing the video. Even though I know how to do something like this I still like to watch these, I usually pick up at least one tip or so.

Just DIY my gas pedal bushing this morning, very helpful video.
IIRC there should be a small bushing where the spring goes through the gas pedal. thanks for the video. super helpful!

Where do I find the bushings. Nothing on ebay.
Hey! Where are the rest of the 318is videos, as promised?!
harrycg95 I have many more. I basically rebuilt my 318is from the ground up. What would you like to see?

If you're on Facebook join the revlimited group.
You reversed your spring direction when putting it back, but i don't think it matters
can you do clutch and brake bushings?
tortatorres I would but I sold that E30. I'll do one next time I get another E30
The Guy Who Does Stuff awsome!!!!
