- Another Cyclone on the other side of town. Located on Plum Creek Dr. in NW Amarillo, TX. KDK wanted me to video another Cyclone as they are his favorites. This 50 hp monster really packs a punch. I was a bit to close. My ears were ringing for a long time afterwards. If you like really long wind downs, then this one's for you. It goes on and on. Enjoy. *** As of November 2021 this siren is no longer there.
I remember a few years back when i actually had the chance to go to the ASC Factory in Milwaukee, honestly to see a cyclone up close is crazy! That actually let me spin one up in the test chamber, they really do have the best tours there and the guy who toured my dad and i through was very nice about it and i still have the lunch bag that he gave us with alot of other different trinkets and informationals in it, definitely was an amazing tour!
I really wanna go
Do you know if asc lets people buy sirens from their graveyard?
@@ThisChannelIsNoLongerActiv-i7m not that I know of, you would probably have to get in contact with them
That's really neat. Were you able to see the hurricane that's stored there as well?
P-50's brother:hello friend
P-50:hello
Cyclone:we have the same sounds
P-50:yes
Or aca soundmaster 115, superbanshee too
@@Elyn-co2gr ACA SoundMaster is not a thing
We are too. It is amazing how much sound comes out of such a small machine. And how each different model makes it own tones/sounds. The Cyclone at night with a tornado warning will make your hair stand on end!
EXCELLENT VIDEO. Wonderfully CLEAR Audio! WOW! Thanks A LOT for Posting This! One of the best that I've seen on here in a long time, and I've been searching for quite awhile. Thanks Again!
ACA/ASC Cyclone Tornado Siren sounds just like the Sentry Siren 40V2T, don't you think?
These are KDK's favorite too! There are several of them here. The ASC website still shows they make them. The sound really travels along way. Thanks!
For all the Tornado Siren Madness fans, this is Cyclone the Conehead.
Or Fiberglass Hat or Pinhead, bro!
The wind down is cool it sounds just like a prop airplane.
My favorite siren! Cyclone really have some nostalgic qualities to it...
These sirens do pack a punch. I live within 10 miles of the Three Mile Island EPZ. And one the fire companys uses it for fire calls. It sounds 4 times about 35 sec cycles. And I live about 8 miles from it but can still here it loud and clear at 1:30 am.
From what I understand, they use the same motor and rotor. Just an omni-directional version that isn't as loud. The T-135 has a vertical mount and projector with rotator and the Cyclone is horizontal that doesn't rotate. I looked at the ASC website and they still make them.
Nice ! That thing takes a long time for the choper to slow down. Near the end of the vid when the choper is slowing down it sounds like a detroit diesel 8v92 reving really high! Nice siren yall!
We used to have an aca p50 around 2 blocks from our house, and damn was that thing loud
*loud.
@kdksiren I did NOT know that! Knowledge is POWER! Interesting. They took the rotating chopper from the Tempest/Penetrator, and made it into an omni! Quite resourceful.
Now, I see the connection when you mentioned the 50hp motor. I had been thinking, "gee, that's the same horsepower of a Tempest-135/Penetrator-50
Thanks. KDK wants another SD-10. There is also a Modulator we may shoot too.
This siren sounds exactly like a P-50.
Because it has the same chopper as the P-50, the P-50 is basically the rotating version of the Cyclone.
This is located in a residential area on one side and a large medical complex and misc. doctors' offices around. I bet the patients get a joy from hearing this thing blast. Thanks.
Thanks for the nice words! No, they do not do attack. We have asked the EMS director and he said he would not do that. We were going to vid another last friday but it was the last day of school and to many activities. There are some Federal Modulators here too, so for something different, will probably do that one next time even though they are kinda boring. Thanks! KDK
I live here in Amarillo and sometimes I can hear them and sometimes I can't. Man, I love way they sound!!!
Im from Hereford, just down the highway. The entire city has these sirens. Man, hearing these things all over town makes your heart skip. BTW, I'm a tornado chaser from Amarillo. They tested them today, and made me wish April was here to chase again!
Hey! Very late reply here but I'm from Hereford too! Kinda nostalgic to listen to these sirens. We lived about 5 miles out of town and when I was growing up there was a tornado warning and I remember being able to hear the sirens among the sounds of thunder that night.
This type has a 50 hp motor and its heavy duty. Probably would run for a long time with no damage. One stuck on in Hereford when we lived there years ago. It was on for over an hour and didn't seem to hurt it. Generally they don't run them for more that 5 minutes at a time and then allowed to cool off before re-activation.
They both use the same motor/ Chopper/ Stator assembly. The Cyclone is mounted verticle and is omni-directional. The P-50 is mounted verticle and rotates. It uses the horn assembly to project the sound and is thus somewhat louder.
Incredible wind-down time. What's really interesting is how much it sounds like the Tempest-135.
@kdksiren
BTW, with all the sirens you mentioned having around there, any chance you might have a Sparton?
The chopper is the same in the T-135/P-50
Thanks for the info. We haven't seen it yet but will go for a road trip and search it out.
sounds like P-50 siren 🚨
According to the ASC website they still make them, or at least sell them. I think most places are opting for sirens like the T-135 and the FS 2001's as they have a battery backup. To bad batteries can't power these. They last forever. There is no beating the distinctive sound that Cyclone's and the old P-50's/ T-135 produce. Thanks for the comments!
From what we understand, yes. The difference is that the chopper sets horizontal on the Cyclone and Vertical on the P-50.
I have been interested in sirens for a long time and I had never heard of a ACA cyclone before. Plus it sounds like a P-50.
The p50 is basically a rotating version of this
You know i never knew there were people interested in these things. I too have always been curious about tornado sirens.
Here in Chicago there is one that gets sounded every first tuesday of the month at 10 am.
The EMS director says that there is not a P-50/ T135 on the system. We have seen the photo on the siren archive site too. The director says it is mis-labled on the location. I wish there was one as we have have never seen one in person. They test them here on the last friday of the month at 11:30 AM for 90 seconds. KDK (my 10 year old son) got to turn them all on last year. There are 88 of them according to the EMS director.
They actually do use the same rotor/ chopper set up. The cyclone is mounted horizontal and the P-50 is verticle. They use the same motor too.
No, these are not louder than thunderbolts. These are 125 dBc, while thunderbolts are 125-128 dBc.
the ones here in fort smith always go off and they are bone chilling!
your right....it does sound like a prop plane.
Yes, it is dual tone. It sounds the same as the old P-50's/ T-135's. Just not as loud as the P-50's. They both use the same rotor or chopper set up. I am not sure of the port configuration.
Nope its exactly the same, I talked to another person around here. According to them, he said that a P50 is no more then a cyclone mounted verticle on a rotator with a fiberglass horn in place instead of the top cone. The motor and chopper assembly are identical. Thanks for the info though :)
the wind down kinda sounds like an airplane goig by
It is in NW Amarillo north of the Hospitals near Wal-Mart on Tascosa Rd.
@kdksiren Most if not all of Oakland County, MI uses FS 2001's. The sirens are tested the first Saturday of every month at 1 PM E.S.T.
WOW! Thanks for the kind words! There are several of these bad boys in the city. If you like a mix, go to our SD-10 video and you can hear two of them along with the SD-10 and a Federal Signal 2001. Thanks again! KDK (dad)
You may be right but I can't confirm about the chopper. But the cyclone does infact use the same 50hp motor as the Penetrator 50. It would not surprise me if they did such as it was manufactured by the same corperation ACA (Now ASC)
Yeah it does, It sounds like the T-135 (No battery backup) version which is 8/12 port and 50 hp like the cyclone.
soon in Okland County MI, we are having a tornado test all day after this spring break on monday
@camommyofthree We had relatives from AZ come to stay with us a few years ago. The city did the monthly test and scared them to death with that. We were all gone and they were at our house alone. They thought a tornado was coming. Sunny day, no wind, just a test, but did we ever hear about that. Yes, at night with lightning, thunder, hail and then the sirens, well that is attention getter. Happens all to much in this part of the country as well. Thanks for the note!
Has anybody else noticed that all the ACA sirens sound very similar? Although, there's most likely a very obvious reason for that - I'm just slow today. xD
Man, this siren has a fantastic wind-down!
Thanks! This was on the new camera. The wind was blowing (as usual) so there is some rocking of the camera. These do sound awsome though. I was too close! Wish there was a T-135 around here.
There used to be a p50/t-135 by our house, but it was replaced by a t-128 in 2015
My elementary school had a 2T22 across the street from the playground, when I say across the street, I mean a small side street. They always tested that thing during recess. LOUD!!!!!
They have replaced all the vintage sirens with 2001s I don't know if that siren location was reused or not, I hope not.
Epic wind up. cool wind down.
@kdksiren I've lived there from 1992 till the end of last year. These sirens actually sound much more ominous from a slight distance. I'm still waiting on getting that perfect video of a tornado next to a town with the sirens blaring in the distance (of course not actually hitting the town)
Thanks! There's so many different ones around here. We are checking out surrounding towns around when time permits so we can post different ones.
@Debo318 We were in Dimmitt last summer when a storm was approaching. They finally activated the sirens while we were filming (see video). It was really cool. I would like to be in or near Hereford when a twister was approaching and they activate those sirens. That would be a great video. BUT, I don't want any damage or injuries!!! We moved from there in '92. I was born and raised there. Graduated from HHS in (cough) '79. Yes I am getting old.
Looks like a tall birdhouse, but the birds will be scared to DEATH if it turns on.
I remember when I was 8 I heard the test one of Amarillo’s cyclones at a family dollar
Wow! its been 10 years later since your last shot. :)
You know that the P50/T-135 is this siren mounted horizontally inside a massive projector, right?
Can't beat the sound of a good old Cyclone
Sounds just like a P-50
i know is that cool
Cyclone Siren use:
High Voltage Motor 5000 RPM Penetrator50
bkriegel95 justices
Just because they have the same thing
cause its made out of a p50
This one doesn't have as much of a lead in time. I wasn't familiar with Window's Movie Maker and how to edit the timeline. There is a FS 2001 not to far from this one, but I was to close that it could not be heard. Thanks
Why it sounds like a ACA P-50???
The chopper is the same i think
you uploaded this on my bday
i turned 9
now im 11
Julia Miranda 20 Now?
i love the sound of it and i heard the same sound at Camel back beach PA.
@neosho53059 Well the Cyclone is not in production anymore, but the Sentry 40v2t is louder (more than twice as loud at 100 feet as the Cyclone), uses less power and has the option for battery backup.
This has more HP than my Honda Trx125
Man, I wish we had these bad boys here in Wichita!!!
8/12 port config :)
Love all your clips, can't wait to see your next clips!!!!
It looks like a volcano
Design looks funny huh?
No fucking shit lol!
No that’s. A 120
@@CS8sirenwastaken lol no its a 125
@@hollydeleon6702 I know, I meant the cyclone 120 looked more like a volcano
They're already putting up the Tornado Sirens in Lubbock Texas KDK
Yes. Last I heard was that they had 4 more to go. Don't know when they will be testing.
The loudest siren ever!
wish we had beasts like this where I live in Michigan, ours are still the old type from the 70's they arent nearly as loud.
KDK has a great taste in sirens!!!
Long Beach Island, NJ had a bunch of these for a long time. In the past few years they’ve been replaced with either T-128’s or 135’s
They were replaced with t128’s, also the one in my profile happens to be the one from LBI
love the video and the siren
@Thewoog34 The ASC website still shows them but a very reliable source tells us that they are no longer in production. There are parts available and perhaps special orders only. To bad too! This is really a very good and powerful siren. Everyone wants battery backup and with a 50 hp motor and 480 V not to mention huge power draw, they are going going away. But the ones left should be around for a very long time.
@Bonemeal2 The T135 (P-50) is really the same as a Cyclone. You probably know this but the chopper is set horizontal on the Cyclone and is vertical on the P-50. The P-50 is louder due to the horn or can that projects the sound. They sound awesome!! As for a Sparton, no we don't have one around here. Thanks!!!
I think it uses the same stator and rotor, if not the same motor.
Long Live the Cyclone!!!
sirenfan97 yes yes yes long with the cyclone! It's Jack to see if he's really really really awesome sirens getting replaced. In New Jersey we still have about three 125s close to me. I can hear them for a test at my house. We do not have tornado sirens, they are just hurricane sirens and civil defense sirens. If you look at the original video from the 80s when these first came out they were advertising them on the video and mentioned that New Jersey and 3 mile Island in Pennsylvania bought some. However, pretty much all of the cyclones Band cheese and P 50s on three-mile Island were replaced with T1 21's and T128's. that was only because they could not get the sirens to have battery back up. That's a stupid reason to get rid of such great sirens. There are still a few around on three-mile Island, but most are replaced. If you are confused I do not live in three-mile Island I live in New Jersey like I said before were thereare about three cyclone 125's by my house.
When I said it's Jack, it auto corrected me I meant it really sucks.
And it said Band cheese, it also auto corrected me again I meant Banshee's!
ASC is still makeing the cyclone 😐
But a bucket on it and it's a P50
KDK it is this out by Northwest Texas Hospital and Texas Tech and BSA and Amarillo College West Campus and Texas MHMR State Center because I was born at Northwest on 5-1-1986 at 5:15am
it's the loudest omni directional rotating siren!
Actually it's a non- rotating siren. Thanks for the comment!
@@kdksiren It's just an ACA P50 without the bucket, and placed down flat
very nice vid. i was wondering, is the cyclones a dual tone siren? it looks like it is but i could be wrong.
Yea ASC is way better then other siren companies. Especially the older sirens.
Nice KD! Great job! Do they test these in "attack" mode? If so, can you record it? Keep adding more of these non the less!
Didn't Cyclones use to be part of the Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant siren system, alongside P-15s?
Yes, at least that's what I have heard.
what happens when.....
you put this on FULL volume with open windows so neighbors can hear it and be scared...but...
i don't think it's loud enough lmao
XxLucy ChanxX would not work where I am, all we got are stinking 2001’s here.
Do p-50s utilize the same chopper as this?
really wow.... i thought the SD-10 and the cyclone where the same....
This was just after my birthday
Looks like a giant Photocell!
when it starts sounds like a wicked start to a rock or techno song
@ALLERTORLOVER69 That's because the P-50/T-135 AC is a rotating version of the Cyclone.
Probably made your ears hurt alot too! They are really loud up close! I have been under one too when it went off.
I know they use the same motor but I wasnt sure about the stator. So you could therorectily replace the chopper on a p-50 using the one from a cyclone? I ask this because thats what sparked the question. A friend in TN wants to know if he could salvage the chopper for a p-50 from cyclone that has a blown phase on it. would save him a lot of money by what he told me.
I am so fascinated by these things, unfortunately i live in saskatchewan, so i don't get to see/hear any of them
@ALLERTORLOVER69 The ASC website still has them posted but a pretty reliable source tells us that they are no longer available. To bad as these are really great sirens!!
Cyclones are rated at 125 decibles at 100 feet, while P-50s are rated at 135 decibles at 100 feet. They both use 50 hp motors.
i live about 35 miles down the road from amarillo in hereford. we have that same one, i think you have a video of one on here.
THATS MY FAVERATE SIREN, as you probibly know.
@Debo318 I too am from Hereford (KDKsiren Dad). Thanks for the note. We have a video on our page of the Hereford sirens. Yes, these things are awesome!! They installed them in '81. We got a video of a new 2001-130 yesterday (9-24-10) and plan on putting it on YT very soon. We like to go chasing too. Have to ask, when did you live in Cow Town? KDK (my son) got to turn on the AMA sirens in August at the EOC center. This is the second time he did that. Thanks again! KDK dad. Whitfaces!!
I was not the one who noticed that aca and sterling got rebranded, they actually go with a different name, ASC and Sentry.
I think the Sentry 40V is but this is probably a very close second.
God this sounds so much like an ACA P50/ASC T135
