I am from Dallas. I was born there, in the 1940s, and I lived there for the first 41 years of my life. Tornadoes occur almost every year, in Dallas. I well remember the April 1957 tornado, which was the worst one to hit the Big D. It is an erroneous belief that they are uncommon in Dallas. The 1957 tornado was....up to that time....the most photographed and documented tornado in U.S. history. The film footage was studied by eminent meteorologists, such as Fujita.

I remember being caught at a red light close to where the tornado hit, and screaming *"CHANGE! F***ING CHANGE!!!"* Lol... Luckily, it was further away from me than I thought.

    • @dawgduo

There’s zero chance I would wait at a red light if a tornado was coming. No police officer is going to ticket you for running that light.

I saw the same thing in 1957 that wrecked Oak Cliff. It stopped when it got to White Rock Lake. I was standing on top of Turkey Knob Jr. which is a high point in that area. I was like looking down on the clouds. I was born in 1945 in Dallas.

OH, I remember this; we were "stuck" in Pediatric ER at Medical City with our daughter, told that we were, ironically, in just about the safest place above ground. The more I look at it here, I'm staggered it didn't completely demolish our daughter's school.

Just goes to show that no matter what time of year it is, you’re never off the hook in North Texas! In the 5 years I have lived in North Texas, there have been tornadoes close to my area in October and even in January when there was a moderate risk issued earlier this year!

Usually only if they are certain that the tornado could be very close to the studio or NWS office. On April 27, WVUA in Tuscaloosa had to take cover from that tornado because it was heading right for their studio by Bryant Denny Stadium, and the tornado barely missed them.

Excellent work. Working live with developing news requires great skill. There's no plan, there's no script, there's no way of knowing what's next. Working with a green screen while watching a monitor is terribly complex particularly under pressure. THis is high-level television reporting, and it ain't easy.

Then we sat outsde when after a while of silence(the eye of the storm) I was inside when my mom saw a tornado come out of the sky and screamed at the top of her lungs and said "get in my closet!"(we have already got a mattress). We put the mattress on the door and sat. while it went over Allen,Texas. Me,my mom,my two brothers, dog, and cat were safe.

It just kills me to hear a supposed expert talking about all the "transformers blowing up". I'd be greatly surprised if this talking head could correctly explain what a transformer is, much less what it does or how it works.
They're called 'POWER FLASHES', and while an exploding transformer could be the cause, that is extremely unlikely. They are most often caused by airborne debris coming into contact with charged power lines. Just a bright electrical arc somewhere along the power lines.
