Watching this 2 years later and you've summarised the Suzi 14 perfectly. Love your easy to listen to style and honest commentary. I'm now 67 and the 14 was my last bike. I bought her new in 2004 - black and chrome with those heavy, but gorgeous looking (IMHO) chrome pipes you talked about. She was such a beautiful bike and did everything I asked of her, with a minimum of fuss. My wife absolutely fell in love with the bike when I introduced her to "black beauty," who was posing gracefully on the showroom floor of Victor Harbour Motorcycles in South Australia. A few days later we returned by bus with our all black leathers and rode her home to Adelaide, via the longest route possible. I was totally in love, not just with my wife, but with this magnificent machine. She had more than enough power and heaps of low end and midrange grunt, which was the selling point for me over the other big Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha "naked" variants at the time. However, I got the urge for more power and fitted a full Yoshimura 4 into 1 system, which changed the dynamic of the bike...but not in a positive way. Yes, she dropped 20 kg's and was more agile and gained more power, but she lost her beautiful symmetrical look and my wife never forgave me for altering her appearance. I also tweaked the suspension the same way you did, but it also changed my riding style. I was no longer relaxed on the bike, but always felt it necessary to squeeze the last bit of performance out of her and really tip her right over in the corners. This led to a near fatal accident, as I entered a fast left hand sweeper just outside of the pretty town of Strathalbyn. I went in way too hot and ended up over the other side of the road mid corner and couldn't correct her in time. Fortunately, there was a little dirt track off to the right, so I pointed her in that direction and braked as carefully as I could and avoided a major get off. I was not the same rider after that incident and was literally shaking all the way home. Regrettably, I sold black beauty a few weeks later and haven't ridden since. That was nearly 18 years ago. My wife also never forgave me for selling her, but she understood I'd lost my nerve. If I had my time over again, I would have just kept her standard and she'd still be sitting as gracefully as ever in my garage, eagerly waiting for the next time she'd take the both uf us on a relaxing journey into the beautiful South Australian countryside. We now live in the little eastern European country of Armenia and guess what I just found for sale? A silver/gray 2002 Suzi 14 in mint condition with her original twin chroma pipes. What to do?
Hello. I’m also a owner of an GSX 1400 K5. I have owned it for eight years now. Before that I had one K3 that I sold away and I got regrets and started to look for another and that is the bike I own today. I just LOVE my 1400. Big wonderful power in the speeds I use the bike. Had it on a motor track and it worked fine for me. It pulls very nice and I have a wonderful time every time I’m on the roads with her. I have tried a couple of other bikes like FJR1300 and GTR 1400, but when I got home and drive my old 1400 I just fell in love with her again. She’s a keeper. Drive safely and have a great season 2022. Best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪
We'll see...my father few years ago was struggling with lung cancer and i remember him saying if we escape from this we will buy a triumph rocket touring (he was in love with this beast).i love the gsx most important bike for me but I'm thinking and the rocket .keep videos coming my friend
I'll keep your advice in mind my friend.most of my friends went to new hayabusas and 1000 katana and i'm the only one without bike for this summer..i imagine their faces when the rocket show up...haha.. happy rides my friend!!
Had a GSX1400K6 from new in Dec 2006, sold it late last year. With tears in my eyes. Emigrated to the states & foolishly thought I wouldn’t have a bike again. I’m now in Florida. Perfect for it, though it was never sold here & is probably not legal in the US? I endorse everything you said. Had I not moved, I too would NEVER have sold it. Still had all the original parts, so the new owner got an absolute bargain of what looked & went like a box fresh new bike, well cared for, never dropped. Sensible mods like yours, only I retro fitted a twin pipe system. Power Commander III, I think. I forget. Heated grips, reshaped seat. A few stainless inserts & fasteners, gear indicator. Absolutely lovely bike. Enjoyed rallies with my ageing but enthusiastic bike pals, usually oop north (I lived in Canterbury). If I ever get a chance, I’ll pay whatever I need to, to get one back! Be funny if I bought my own back at twice the price! GF56YED, if I recall correctly.
I am a 2005 Kawasaki ZRX 1200R owner (among other bikes) and an ex police biker. That Suzuki looks sweet. I bought a new Bandit 600S back in 2000 which I had for a few years. Many more years enjoyment from your bike.
I have owned in the last 10 years 3x FJ1100 , 5 X FJ1200 Bikes , One XJR1300 , One FJR1300 , I was always looking for that PERFECT Bike ,. Then "BINGO" 2 months ago I bought a 2005 GSX1400 K5 in great condition, The Best all-round Bike I have ever owned, My search is over
@@FenTour Yes exactly. That smodley enormous tourqe with 160nm makes it stupid fast. It has more torque in 2500 rpm as it has Standard at peak. Nice Review👍🏻 I think one of the best cheapest upgrade is to change the front springs to progressive ones. It makes the bike handles much better! Now I have Hayabusa front end on my new one and that makes the 1400 handle like a sports bike and still have the comfort left.
Good review I first bought one 2003 absolutely love the bike . Then head a metal knee in 2017 sold it to my brother in law missed it so much thought sod the knee bought it back. But it's a big old bus and the best bike I ever had. And i started on the fs 1e back in the mid 70s gt 250 then a kettle. So the gsx 1400 was the nearest to the good old days in the 70s
Hello to all 1400 fans! I bought mine in 2005 new. It is a black model with 4 in 1 originaly (now Yoshimura) and with the original Suzuki little fairing in the style of de gs1000S. A pure beauty ! I can't say enough good things about this "nearly perfect" bike and you told the main things. I'm 63 now and I must say that if you drive less miles in the year, the GSX becomes harder to master, what I did great in the past when I drove much more my bikes. I shall change for a lighter and modern bike with some electronics as I know that NO other bike shall have such a great engine ! If I had infinite room in my garage and twice the budget I would necer sell it, of course... I HATE selling my bikes, because I truly love them! The Suzuki 800 RE will certainly be my choice (in black, naturally), partly because, when you keep a bike for 19 years, your Suzuki specialist became a good friend 😉
Great to find another GSX 1400 lover 🙂 I've had mine only for 12 years and love it more every day. No problems, great performance, comfortable, looks great...what more could you ask for 🙂 Oh yes, I've also got rid of the standard pipes and got a 4 into 1. Mine is a 'StayinTune' pipe. That's what we use here in Australia 🙂
Bought a K2 model back in '04. Traded in my Harley, best decision I'd made. By handing around the keys, 3 of my mates have bought one as well. Wrote it, (and myself) off in '07. Out of hospital, and grabbed a 'K5, rode home with 8 broken ribs. Still sitting in the shed! Had to have the wheels powder coated white, awesome look. Missus can't spend long time in the saddle, but have bought a cruiser to keep her happy on longer trips too. She try's to talk me into selling, but it's not gonna happen..
I've just added one of these to my bikes.. had engine out to drill out header bolts. Had issue with fuelling ,which ended up as the fuel pump filter.. but now it's back together and it's brilliant . I've got 2 gsxr 1000s , a gsxr600 , a Suzuki katana (new model), a Honda cb1000r , a Yamaha tracer 900, and a triumph Sprint 1050 gt. I rode a friend's gsx 1400 years ago and always had my eye on owning one. They look excellent , are super comfortable for rider and passenger and go pretty well also.
Saw this when I was studying in Australia. Parked at Uni's motorcycle parking bay. Love at first sight. Came back home (Malaysia) and the model was not available. Settled for the ZRX1200R.. 😊
Hi to all 1400 owners and friends ! I bought mine in 2005 new. Blue one with 4 in 1 Yoshimura. Of course i'm looking and trying some new bikes....but was never able to find all the features like my GSX1400. I always wonder how can you check oil level or lubricating the chain without a central stand. Oh and don't talk about exhaust that become like horrible tin cans too ! So it's been 19 years now and I still keep mine may be for my life time bros. Each time i open the throttle it's a grumpy melody to my ears. And it still start at the firs half a second. Because i take a great care of this jewel, she is like a brand new one still shinny and polished ! Rev is about no more than 3500 rpm on motorway and my smooth driving allow me to cover more than 400 kms with a full tank ! What else ? So, I agree = if you have one, alright, dont' sell it ! No ABS, no regulator, no traction control, ... Who cares ? I press start and ready to ride ! Just taste this pure bike and, you'll never get any issue. She'll never let you down ! Have good times and take care my friends ! ✌
I ride a K5 (2005) GSX1400 bought new and the only way I am gonna part from it is if someone gets it from my cold dead hands. What a fantastic bike. Great review, happy biking!
I have two, I just love them, one bog standard 2001 y reg with 9k miles. I got of a mate 6 years ago who owned it 14 years. I've put it back to original. Original exhaust "Buitiful!" Think is one is not enough so I bought another (it was neglected and needed some love) so got that up to a good standard. Looks beautiful I love it.
I have the original exhaust which is in as new condition, but won't be putting it back on anytime soon. I nearly sold it back in 2007 due to lack of excitement, but since having the Akra etc i am always excited riding the GSX.
"Bit of corrosion" showing shots of it absolutely minty fresh haha. Bloody nice bike. Should be proud to ride that mate! 1400 would be too much for me I reckon, but the "little sister", 1200 bandit is right up my alley. I have the 650, but I'm recognising the fun factor of these big old muscle bikes, especially the carb'd ones... So I'm on the hunt for a specific Mk1 1200 that I know the owner cared for... And then I will never sell it lol. To hell with a bike being old, a bike is a bike, it has character. You don't need ABS if you know what you're doing, nor TC, and you can use a throttle lock if you're doin massive motorway miles. That's the point is it not? It's a pure motorcycle, and I'm after the purest experience there is lmao
Thank you for commenting, yes there is a little corrosion but I guess it is minimal for such on old beastie! Yes it is a pure experience indeed riding the GSX1400.
I owned two of these, the original then 2 years later roughly the same model tested here, and of all the bikes I've owned I regret selling the GSX1400 the most. Please Suzuki bring it back !!!!!
Mine is exactly same as yours, has been a fantastic bike gets admiration where ever I am, for sale soon had it from new 9000 miles genuine factory bike nothing added nothing taken off, will cry when she goes , ah well genuine reason for sale.. 2002 model
I have had 3 of these bikes now and paid £5500 for my 1400FE a few years ago. I also have a Triumph Rocket 3GT which is a great bike, but still love the way the 4 cylinder GSX rides, plus my wife prefers the pillion on it so it didn’t go part-exchange. The Blue & White ones are the fastest :-)
@@FenTour The Rocket has awesome acceleration and incredible handling for a 2500cc machine, but that just makes the GSX1400 feel like a much lighter bike with incredible torque and feels much smoother with its 4 cylinder engine that just wants to go fast. I don’t understand why Suzuki don’t have anything today that can be compared to the 1400. I wish I still had my K2 as it seemed smoother than the two FE’s that seem to have slight lag when accelerating from low revs in higher gears. A Suzuki mechanic said this is due to the power mapping used to clear later euro emission standards. Still can’t ride it in London ULEZ zones without having to pay £12 a day though.
I regretted selling my 05 GSX I pined for it, went down to the garage and it wasn't there. So when an 09 [08 built] came up for sale at a reasonable price I bought it. Just doing some polishing work, to tidy up 13year old patina, over winter. It's got a yoshimura can, was standard on some models in NZ, and mate it's a keeper for sure. Great 20 year review.
Ive got a 2002 gsx1400 had it for 18 years now its been in the shed for 3 year's I've got arthritis in my knees so it never gets used its got nearly 23000 miles and never had a problem
I enjoyed your video so much, you spoke with authority due to your vast experience with the GSX1400. Too many people these days are seduced by the enormous bhp figures of modern bikes; I find that you have to wind them right up screaming towards the red line (very anti-social), I prefer to have the ease of riding with a large displacement engine with power available in any gear; the bike is barely even trying as you potentially rack up the points! I sold my ZZR1400 and always regretted it. Still my favourite bike was my old Blackbird, (regretted selling that too), great memories, great handling, loads of power, really planted on the road... I might have to buy a second bike!
Indeed you are so right, I am not a fan of reviving an engine to get the performance, can be fun but just not all the time; much prefer the low down grunt you experienced with the XZR14 or of course the GSX14, thank you too for the kind comments. Cheers and ride safe.
Have had an older sister, the GSX-750, sold last year after 5yrs owning it - switching it for BMW flat twin. Sometimes, I kind of regret that swap, unless I go for a ride on the bimmer :-) But still, will never forget the smoothness and silkiness of the in-line four cyllinder...
A BMW flat twin is also superb, but a very different power delivery. If I could only have one bike it would be my R1250GS. Luckily I have kept the 1400 despite other bikes coming and going.
I had one new in 2002, same colours as yours, did the same mods, Akropovic exhaust, i also lifted the rear with jack up plates, fitted a steering damper and bellypan, was a fantastic bike, I sold it with around 40000 miles on it when we moved out to Australia, when we got here I looked for another, they were selling here second hand for $15000.... that was the end of that dream :) still love the bike...
@@mattthompson7543 I moved here in 2009, in 2009 they were $15000, now they are fetching $10000 for a good one, please read my post correctly, the words "were" is relevant in this case.
What an excellent review, thank you. I've had my 1400 for 11 years now and have the same sentiments towards it. I seem to have done similar things too, the MCN adjustment for the suspension transformed the handling in a way I wouldn't have thought possible. When I first bought the bike it felt as though it wanted to run wide on roundabouts and it was generally wallowy but the adjustments allow you to change things so it feels as though it's on rails without the ride being too hard. I also changed my twin exhausts for a 4 into 1 but I picked a Yoshimura Cyclone which is ceramic coated in black and looks very 80's. The original down pipes are double skinned and very restrictive, however, the Yoshimura ones are almost twice the internal diameter. It's rather loud on full acceleration but as you showed can be done, is quiet if you wish it to be and take things easy, apart from which there are very few opportunities to fully open the throttle on a 1400 safely. A couple of other things I tried, a K and N air filter which didn't seem to make an appreciable difference and I also felt the gearbox on mine became notchy/clunky when hot. After much experimenting I found Shell Advance Ultra 10W 40 smoothed things out hot or cold and I don't notice it any more. I suspect it was also because my bike has only done 4000 miles. There's one thing left that I wish to do. Mines a blue one and I've seen pictures of black ones with a black Yoshi exhaust but with the wheels painted gold, not a bright gold but a muted gold, to me that looks almost bling but not quite and a lovely scheme, again evocative of the late 70's and 80's when Ducati used it on their 900ss. At some point then I'll change the wheel colour which will also pick out the gold calipers and rear suspension. That's all I think it needs for me. Any way thanks again for a mornings ride from my armchair and safe riding.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I forgot to mention I also have the K&N but as you say does not make any real difference just allows re-use rather than replace. Interesting I have recently customised the look of my Harley with various coloured bits, a Harley is always unique and never standard. As for my GSX I could not change it’s looks with paint etc. strange how I feel differently to the two machines!
dear friend nice to hear so good words abt gsx i m owner of 2 one k2 and the 2nd k7 is simple fantastic machine, i wish you the best Kostas from Greece
I have recently bought a '52 plate (2002) GSX1400 in silver, with 30k on the clock. It is absolutely spotless, like a new bike. I really love it. It is such a different ride from my previous machines (Fireblades, GSXR-1000 etc) I too love how it looks. It's a big old beautiful lump, completely original. The only thing I may upgrade are the rear shocks. I'm a big fella, and even on their stiffest setting it feels a bit squashy at the back. We'll see. Awesome bike though.
Nice bike. And good information. Just passed my license. I bought GSF600 in this colour scheme. Hope on future find GSX1400 in good condition, because every time I see them on street got jealous 😁😁😁
Awesome bikes. I consider myself fortunate as an owner of a K3, Blue/White, White wheels - a real head turner. At 63yrs young i`ve owned many bikes, but nothing has ever ridden like this does. I`ll never sell it - no modern bikes come close in either the looks or the unique ride quality the `14 provides.
Gsx was my first bike, thought it would be too for me for a first bike, but it rode like a big baby, still got it,never would sell. Its a 55 plate and still looks like new.
I have a 2003xjr 1300sp had it, since new i also had the same thing done .made s big difference to the bikes handling.i could never sell it .i love the torque and feel of it . brilliant bike
I've had the pleasure of owning and reviewing all 4 of the big Muscle bikes on my channel now (ZRX1200--XJR1300--CB1300--GSX1400) And I still think the GSX1400 is the One I liked the most, in fact I'm now on the hunt for another One for my channel 😁
@@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes Hi ya , do you have a buyer for my bike yet, Ha.. Ha....! looking at her yesterday, didn't realise it still has the bits of plastic cover on the chassis plate and ignition lock from new, love this bike....!
these bikes are timeless, they were beautiful when they came out, they are beautiful now and will be beautiful in 50years if they're still around my only problem with these bikes is that they are quite heavy and as a short guy, I'm having a hard time holding them upright
Ive got a CB1100 EX air cooled. It does 70mph at 3000 rpm in top and pulls from 1500. I totally get where you are coming from with this review. The bikes a lovely place to be. The journos miss the point obsessing about BHP figures when they revue bikes. The average rider rides on British roads not Mallory Park. Torque is so much more useable than power and the CBs detuned engine delivers more low down grunt.
That Akra pipe is honestly perfectly matched to the gsx1400. Perfect sound and great looks. Not garish at all. Considering Akrapovic’s reputation with Motogp and sport bikes, it’s a bit of a welcomed surprise.
Great video, very interesting for me as I am looking at buying one at the moment, prices are still pretty reasonable at the moment, probably will climb in the summer! Love this style of bike though I'm a little concerned about the weight, I also have another ride back from 1975, Suzuki gt550 which I love, always gives me an ear to ear smile. Ride safe, once again great video,
The weight is 226kg and can be seriously reduced to around 210kg by binning the centre stand and adding the 4-2-1 Akra system. To me its a light bike... Cheers...
@@FenTour Took your advice, found a 2002 standard model in a local shop, went out for a test ride yesterday, absolutely loved her, went back to shop paid my money and took her home with me. She's a torque monster, so easy to ride, lots of smiles coming this summer
I recently bought my 1400, cheap! It was grey and untidy. I painted it in my own blue & white scheme 'cos I've always loved the look . My first painting project that turned out ok ... and it's unique!! (but close to original). Changed seized rear shocks, replaced the dented twin mufflers and added a chrome oil cooler cover. Did not think taking down to one pipe was right for the image of a muscle bike. It's fast enough, I've had a Blade in the past, and I don't feel it needs anything extra in terms of bhp. Amazing bike, love it!!! I've added at least a grand, maybe doubled the value as they're going up 😜
Looks great. I have the CB400SF, still on a restricted licence. Bought it used, 10 years old, runs great, looks similar and great. Like these style of bikes, timeless looking and sporty. I have a black short cone exhaust on mine, I think I prefer the small exhausts.
Brilliant review of the Suzuki Gsx 1400 by Fen Tour. I have a 2001 K2 in the best colour blue and white, with under 16000 miles from new few extras, upgraded brakes, heated grips, braided lines etc. Standard apart from that, a couple of chips on the tank if im critical apart from that its in Mint condition all the pipes and exhausts still gleam brighter than Philip Schofields teeth.
I stumbled across this video - Love it! nothing technical, just your experiences - that works for me! Interesting to hear what you had to say about your Akrapovic. I'm probably about your age and I'm riding a 2011 Speed Triple which I bought new - love it!, and a very low mileage '99 XJR1300 which I bought about five or six years ago and is probably the closest to yours. I absolutely love my XJR but I don't get out on it as often as I should. Still, it passed it's MOT with no dribbly bits and I'm planning to get out on him (his name is Barry) this coming Monday for probably four hours or so... I have to say the GSX has always appealed to me and I've often thought I should look around for one. I didn't realise they are injected! my XJR is carbed and I understand is good for about 104bhp - the later XJRs are injected, but I understand they lack a few horses! Anyway, off to investigate current prices of GSX's now I reckon!....
@@FenTour - It did. It had a deep roar. A friend of mine also had a GSX1400 with a 4 in to 1 yoshi...It screamed. My only regret is selling the bike. I wish I had kept it like you did. Enjoy and stay safe.
Nice review. I’m now on my third GSX1400, a K6 I bought last year after years of Blackbirds etc. First one I bought new from Taz Motorcycles in Peterborough in 2001 for £4999! That one got wrecked in the south of France when a 92-year-old German rammed me from behind at the lights with his 1970s Merc. So I bought a new CB1300, but just didn’t like it as much as the 14, so chopped it in for a 54-plate 14. That also got wrecked in France (see a theme here?) and I spent years riding other bikes. Bought my K6 last year and doubt I’ll ever sell it.
Lets hope your current GSX is not rammed from behind! I got this one from Taz too, March 2002 so you were a little earlier than I was... 21 years old this month...
My bike has covered 88,000 miles and the engine is still reassuringly solid. Regulator/Rectifier failed recently, though no other significant issues to report in all the time I have owned it.
I had one, new, from 2007 to 2021. Like many who sold their bike, I regretted saying “OK” to the offer made, but for reasons I can no longer recall, I ignored my feelings. I think I paid £6,300 for it, from Suzuki Robinson’s of Canterbury. I made many, quite subtle changes which turned it from a bit lumpy and unpleasant to ride, into the best all round bike I’ve ever owned. If you’ve room & the cash, buy the best example you can find. Do it now. 😊
I’ve had my 2007 GSX1400 since early 2010. I bought it with less than 10,000 km on it, and now it’s nearly got 57,000km on the clock. It’s never been in for a service, I just change the oil and filter every 5000 to 6000km, I change the air filter every couple of years, and I changed the plugs…occasionally. Less than occasionally actually. 😂 Work needed? I only just changed the original chain and sprockets, and had the forks rebuilt a couple of years ago. Tyres of course. That’s about it. I did change the pump and filter a couple of years ago as the high pressure filter was clogged up. What a damn bike…I always tell my missus it’s a my “last bike”. I have no desire to get anything else, and can’t think what else today would replace it. It runs fine in baking hot central Queensland summers with 45 degree C days, and in winter when it’s not much colder. 😊 I love it!
I modified the centre stand on my friends 1400 who has acro system like yours. Best of both worlds, fair bit cutting and welding but it works fine, he missed his centre stand.
I am quite happy without the centre stand, it’s more weight after all. I use a paddock stand for when adjusting the chain etc. good idea though to modify the stand for use with the Akra! 👍👍👍
I love my old Suzie's had various GS and GSXs currently running an Honda CB 1300. It's a bit newer @ 2014 but last of the air-cooled motors and even though it's only mid 80s hp it's a big old torque fest, and like the GS is definitely a keeper.
Beautiful machine, never brought to the U.S. market. We got the Zrx, FZ1, the Bandit, and the 919 in that era. I would have definitely been interested, still have my ‘03 Zrx, and feel the same way about keeping it.
Yeah, wasn't brought into South Africa either and there's one for sale currently and I'm seriously dreaming about it. But my use would be primary transport and not sure how reliable it will be for that reason due to age. Currently riding a single and that gets tired, but also teaches a person patience and less speed runs decreasing risks and good fuel consumption, but some power would be great.
hi martyn bernard cooke hear from cheshire i 2002 gsx same as yours blue and white love it , i do get bit of vibration thow the barrs did you have that ? if so how did you resolve it
Mine is a smooth as butter, no vibes to speak of and never has had any! Maybe one of the throttle bodies needs adjusting? If running a non standard exhaust has it been set up on a dyno properly?
Yep, I've got two of them, back in fashion definatly a retro classic now. I have been tempted to part with one of them, thing is now they are appreciating classic on classic insurance now. Its the white wheels that get me and the lovely blue and white. I can't part with them.
@@FenTour hi I’ve been away from biking for a while now and I’ve reached retirement age and feel like getting back into biking. My last bike was a Suzuki GS1000 and I still miss it. But recently I’ve come across a fabulous 2003 Suzuki GSX 1400 it really is mint condition with only 15k on the clock, also new tyres, brake pads, new sprocket and chain. The seller is a mechanic and is just not using it as he has other bikes. He’s asking £4900 after being reduced from £5300. The engine sounds nice and tight. I’m very tempted to offer £4750. Cheers your vids are top draw. John.
@@teokastelan2930 indeed there was a 1550 conversion, not sure who made it though. I did think about the cams and 1550 15 years ago but was so satisfied with the increase from 108 to 126 hp from the Akra and PC3 there was no need. Cheers.
i have gsx 1400 k5 bought it new in 2005 do not get much time to ride her but love it when i do hence only 5700 miles on her would i sell her not a chance
@FenTour I think it's a standard colour option , gold forks and gold wheels on the same colourway as your bike . Definitely abit flashier than the silver .
Great bikes, I had the XJR1300 and loved it. That was immaculate too, wish I'd never sold that🤦♂🤦♂ Oh well, we live and learn. Always fancied one of those 14's in that colour scheme, maybe one day
I’ve got a 99 ZZR1100. To be honest, it feels utterly nuts and I question why I have it. It just begs you to drive it fast everywhere. Your bike is a very handsome machine.
Had mine for 20 years now. I have faster and more comfortable bikes in the garage, but if I was forced to start selling then the big 14 would be last to go. With a few tweaks it is so capable. The best bike I have owned. Period.
I've got one I use as a daily... its scruffy and needs some work. But its def an arm stretcher. I can't say I love it... but I like it and will keep it. Some suspension tuning might help me like it more.
The suspension internals get a bit tired after the years, worth getting them sorted with a suspension shop. No idea where you are but here FTR Suspension can refurb these.
Back in 2005 I had the choice of an XJR1300 or GSX1400, my budget didnt quite run to the big suzy & I loved the looks of the yam, kept the yam for 12yrs as it was so comfy, then sold it & bought a Dragstar 1100 also very comfy but completely different, kept that 6yrs. Now I was back in the market for another big retro, XJR1300???? ( been there & loved it) GSX1400 wins the day & after an initial ride of just 60mls I can see this is going to be in my garage for a very long time, at 68 yrs I had better go get some mileage in.
Honestly love these bikes I’ve owned two in my life an my first was my first ever bike after passing my test ( experienced off roader rider ) and as much as I loved them they was just not that fast you would think with being 1400cc they would seriously move Ano they are heavy but they just don’t get going quick enough , maybe I’ll get one in my 50s to easy ride on 👍🤣
Nice one. I am an owner of an 02 Haybusa myself, and if I ever want to change to a bike that is more comfortable on the wrists, I might consider this. I am starting to get bogging on my bike and maybe my sparkplugs need replacing too.
When i bought my first bike gsf 600 bandit after a while my brother let me ride his gsx 1400. That was about 15 years ago. Since then i had few different bike but the most of fun i had on that gsx. He had twin xil exhaust. Used to scared poeple off when reved it ;) Now im in my late 30s and thinking to get gsx.
As standard these GSX1400 Suzukies were held back with a restrictive exhaust to try to keep to the 100 hp max to allow sales in France I believe? A crude way to restrict power, luckily easily resolved with the a full system. 126 hp is much more fun.... cheers for commenting.
What to do?
I've had my k2 for 14yrs now , everytime I get on it , it still brings a big smile to my face .
Good to hear, keep enjoying your 14
Wow thank you for commenting, good that you were able to get a second 1400… yes nothing quite like it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
4 years without my silver machine and i miss it every day..keep your bike as it is.. simple and beautiful.grettings from Greece
Thank you for the comment, will you find another GSX?
We'll see...my father few years ago was struggling with lung cancer and i remember him saying if we escape from this we will buy a triumph rocket touring (he was in love with this beast).i love the gsx most important bike for me but I'm thinking and the rocket .keep videos coming my friend
@@ΚωσταςΜπαξεβανης I think you will love the Rocket, I need to test one out someday. Thank you for the comments.
I'll keep your advice in mind my friend.most of my friends went to new hayabusas and 1000 katana and i'm the only one without bike for this summer..i imagine their faces when the rocket show up...haha.. happy rides my friend!!
@@ΚωσταςΜπαξεβανης it will be an awesome moment.
The 1400 was never sold in the USA so would probably be hard to get parts etc? What about a Yamaha XJR?
Im a GSX1400 Newbie only had mine 5 years, fell in love with it the second i saw it, will part with it over my dead body!!
Excellent, must not be parted with.
I am a 2005 Kawasaki ZRX 1200R owner (among other bikes) and an ex police biker. That Suzuki looks sweet. I bought a new Bandit 600S back in 2000 which I had for a few years. Many more years enjoyment from your bike.
Cheers Roger, the ZRX was a close rival to the GSX at the time, lovely bike.
I have owned in the last 10 years 3x FJ1100 , 5 X FJ1200 Bikes , One XJR1300 , One FJR1300 , I was always looking for that PERFECT Bike ,.
Then "BINGO" 2 months ago I bought a 2005 GSX1400 K5 in great condition, The Best all-round Bike I have ever owned, My search is over
Awesome news, it’s a bit of a gem the 14, glad you have found your bike for life! 👍
I Sold my 1400 K6 for some years ago and regretted it the already the next day! Last year I baught a 1550cc 1400 k2 and will never ever sell it🥰
Ahh the big bore with cams and a Akra = 155 hp. Hold on tight… cheers for watching.
Sold my k5 about 10 yrs ago, and yes have a
Always regretted it…you are a wise man 👏🏼
Cheers.
Glad that you are still riding the big beastie with the knee. 👍👍
Brilliant, these bikes stick in the soul, can never sell.
I also have the Stayintune pipe on my '05. Great sound..
New owners in a new shop.
Worth contacting if you're in the market..
Ohhh what a story, keep it for the solo rides with your mates and the Mrs should be happy?
I have a Top Selleri seat on mine, a French made seat, and they are really comfortable. We can go 200 miles without needing to stop for a stretch 👍
Sounds an awesome collection of bikes there, great to add in a GSX1400, you can now really choose a bike for your mood. 👍
I've put another 2.000 miles on the bike and haven't used any of the others since the gsx has been back on the road
Saw this when I was studying in Australia. Parked at Uni's motorcycle parking bay. Love at first sight. Came back home (Malaysia) and the model was not available. Settled for the ZRX1200R.. 😊
Indeed was not available in some countries including the USA no idea why though.
Cheers, good man; never let go of that bik! Cheers for commenting
I have one. I love it too. Won't be selling it either. Awesome video mate, take care! Cheers
Thank you for commenting, keep enjoying the GSX
I owned two of these, the original then 2 years later roughly the same model tested here, and of all the bikes I've owned I regret selling the GSX1400 the most. Please Suzuki bring it back !!!!!
If Suzuki brought this back it would be a huge seller… guess that’s never gonna to happen sadly.
@@FenTour Thats right, stupid environmental rules, because its air/oil cooled, own a K5 myself will never sell it.

Stunning bike. Saw one recently at my local Triumph dealership and had a good chat with the owner. Would love one of these.
It’s as smooth as butter to ride, plenty out there for sale… good luck hunting one out.

Brilliant.
Mine is exactly same as yours, has been a fantastic bike gets admiration where ever I am, for sale soon had it from new 9000 miles genuine factory bike nothing added nothing taken off, will cry when she goes , ah well genuine reason for sale.. 2002 model
Oh no! Sounds like it will make the next owner very happy.
@@FenTour If it makes him as happy as I have been with it , he will have the biggest grin in England..
How does the thrust of the Rocket 3 compare? I have not ridden the Rocket, maybe I should not… I have no more garage space.
Thank you for the kind comment, good to hear your current GSX is a keeper…👍
Ive got a 2002 gsx1400 had it for 18 years now its been in the shed for 3 year's I've got arthritis in my knees so it never gets used its got nearly 23000 miles and never had a problem
Ohhh sorry you are unable to ride the beastie, hope you can ride again.
Enjoyed your video
@@eddiecochran7868 much appreciated Eddie. Take care.
best engine ever, i never sell mine
Good man, indeed the engine is a bullet proof torque monster.
Luckily I have kept the 1400 despite other bikes coming and going.
the gsx 750 has no shared blood
I've had two and regret selling both !
Seriously considering getting another, I don't need one, but I want one 😁
The 1400 tugs on the heart strings, getting another will be good!
They aren’t $15000 ……… your making that up. Go on bike sales
@@mattthompson7543 I moved here in 2009, in 2009 they were $15000, now they are fetching $10000 for a good one, please read my post correctly, the words "were" is relevant in this case.
Thank you for commenting and sorry for the slow reply, have you found a reasonably priced GSX?
Just bought one without a test ride. Just know I’m going to love and keep it! Great review. Thanks. 👍
Ohhhh that’s awesome, hope you never part.

Good to hear about your collection of GSXs
I have Suzuki BKing and I'm thinking of buying this one too
Ahhh, a good match for the Bking.
The rear shocks can deteriorate, mine are still OK but most shot after 20 years. Aftermarket ones can have bigger springs so that should help too.

@@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes Hi ya , do you have a buyer for my bike yet, Ha.. Ha....! looking at her yesterday, didn't realise it still has the bits of plastic cover on the chassis plate and ignition lock from new, love this bike....!
these bikes are timeless, they were beautiful when they came out, they are beautiful now and will be beautiful in 50years if they're still around
my only problem with these bikes is that they are quite heavy and as a short guy, I'm having a hard time holding them upright
Being not so tall isn`t too much of an issue as the seat height is suprisingly low.
Compared to sitting on my R1250GS it feels small and light! Then again I have long legs so I guess it’s not intimidating weight wise.
Wonderful GSX 1400 !! I'm on No. 5, 3 written off while parked, 1 I was rear ended whilst stopped. Love them, used daily, no problems.... 😁😁😁😁😁😁

Excellent.
I bought a bandit 1250 recently and love it. Sat on a black 1400 with bar risers and it felt bloody cool.
They should have given it a cool name !
It always feels great riding the 14, maybe it should have been called the Bandit + ? hehe
Spot on, these bikes make riding a breeze with all that low revving thrust.
Dream bike for me I'm looking for a red and black one hopefully soon!
Good luck with the search.
Great taste. These are rare. If you find one, just keep it. Can check my content when you can. Cheers.
I just bought one today! You’re filming on my stomping ground, too. See you on the road.

@@FenTour I ain’t had a chance to venture out on her yet! Waiting til April now.
That Akra pipe is honestly perfectly matched to the gsx1400. Perfect sound and great looks. Not garish at all. Considering Akrapovic’s reputation with Motogp and sport bikes, it’s a bit of a welcomed surprise.
Indeed it looks just fine and of course offers the ultimate in breathing for the big 14. Cheers.
Great video, very interesting for me as I am looking at buying one at the moment, prices are still pretty reasonable at the moment,
probably will climb in the summer! Love this style of bike though I'm a little concerned about the weight, I also have another ride
back from 1975, Suzuki gt550 which I love, always gives me an ear to ear smile.
Ride safe, once again great video,
The weight is 226kg and can be seriously reduced to around 210kg by binning the centre stand and adding the 4-2-1 Akra system. To me its a light bike... Cheers...

I've added at least a grand, maybe doubled the value as they're going up 😜
Sounds like you have done well there with the purchase and repaint etc... Cheers
Looks great. I have the CB400SF, still on a restricted licence. Bought it used, 10 years old, runs great, looks similar and great. Like these style of bikes, timeless looking and sporty.
I have a black short cone exhaust on mine, I think I prefer the small exhausts.
You would be amazed by the power of the 1400, it’s addictive. Maybe on the shopping list one you get the full licence.
Fantasic! was thinking of selling my Gsx 1400 because I wasn't rinding that much... But you convinced me not to. Thanks @fen tour
Thank you very much for the compliment. Good to hear that your GSX is still looking better the Philip Schofield. Haha
XJR and GSX are very similar and bikes never to sell.... have you been looking at GSXs?
Great long term review really enjoyed watching this one. 👍
Cheers Alan… 👍
I had a silver one with a 2x 2in to 1 Devil cans.......I loved that bike. Best bike I ever owned.
Thanks for commenting, bet your GSX14 sounded good?
@@FenTour - It did. It had a deep roar.
A friend of mine also had a GSX1400 with a 4 in to 1 yoshi...It screamed.
My only regret is selling the bike. I wish I had kept it like you did.
Enjoy and stay safe.
@@freddyfender562 cheers Freddy, ride safe there too.
Life without a GSX1400: Wasted Days and Wasted Nights.... ;-)
Regulator/Rectifier failed recently, though no other significant issues to report in all the time I have owned it.
probably only just run in, these engines are under stressed; so likey good for another 100k yet.
Do it now. 😊
Exactly, there are some nice ones around.
Bought one 5 months ago should have done this 20 years ago. Awesome machine, any excuse to wheel her out, 👏
Brilliant, now you know… 👍
Got a blue white one mint was thinking of selling it after watching your review I'll do some mods an keep it thanks 👍
Are you planning on some exhaust mods and a dino tune maybe?
I’ve had my 2007 GSX1400 since early 2010. I bought it with less than 10,000 km on it, and now it’s nearly got 57,000km on the clock. It’s never been in for a service, I just change the oil and filter every 5000 to 6000km, I change the air filter every couple of years, and I changed the plugs…occasionally. Less than occasionally actually. 😂
Work needed? I only just changed the original chain and sprockets, and had the forks rebuilt a couple of years ago. Tyres of course. That’s about it. I did change the pump and filter a couple of years ago as the high pressure filter was clogged up.
What a damn bike…I always tell my missus it’s a my “last bike”. I have no desire to get anything else, and can’t think what else today would replace it. It runs fine in baking hot central Queensland summers with 45 degree C days, and in winter when it’s not much colder. 😊
I love it!
Best review I have seen
Thank you, that is very kind.
As a Kawasaki and KTM fan and lover, , , this is the only Suzuki I adore.
Suzuki not made anything else like it sadly since.
That's a awesome looking bike I allways liked the look of them 😎
Cheers. 👍
My all time favourite looking bikes love to own one one day
Good luck getting yourself one. Cheers.
Love it, I have a 2007 GSX1400 that I brought new and now a 2022 Harley Fat Bob :-) Will never part with the 14, it’s got a majesty of muscle to it.
You have impeccable choice there, brilliant bikes.... I ride my Fat Bob more than any other bike!
I love my old Suzie's had various GS and GSXs currently running an Honda CB 1300. It's a bit newer @ 2014 but last of the air-cooled motors and even though it's only mid 80s hp it's a big old torque fest, and like the GS is definitely a keeper.
I guess the CB13 must be a very lazy ride? They look the business too.
I've got a 2008 cb1300s. Lovely bike ...same genre as Suzuki but water cooled and 113bhp. Had 13 years
It's fabulous!
I had an XJR, that was lovely too.
Cheers Mike.
Beautiful machine, never brought to the U.S. market. We got the Zrx, FZ1, the Bandit, and the 919 in that era. I would have definitely been interested, still have my ‘03 Zrx, and feel the same way about keeping it.
Absolutely, keep that 03 ZRX
Yeah, wasn't brought into South Africa either and there's one for sale currently and I'm seriously dreaming about it. But my use would be primary transport and not sure how reliable it will be for that reason due to age. Currently riding a single and that gets tired, but also teaches a person patience and less speed runs decreasing risks and good fuel consumption, but some power would be great.
I’m on my third, tried a Kwacker Versys 1000 for 18 months but it bored me. The GSX is my keeper, forever!
The 1400 never bores
Excellent Explanation good service to Humanity and Riders i enjoyed your review
Thank you kindly!
hi martyn bernard cooke hear from cheshire i 2002 gsx same as yours blue and white love it , i do get bit of vibration thow the barrs did you have that ? if so how did you resolve it
Mine is a smooth as butter, no vibes to speak of and never has had any! Maybe one of the throttle bodies needs adjusting? If running a non standard exhaust has it been set up on a dyno properly?
20 year, RESPECT
Now over 22 years!
Yep, I've got two of them, back in fashion definatly a retro classic now. I have been tempted to part with one of them, thing is now they are appreciating classic on classic insurance now. Its the white wheels that get me and the lovely blue and white. I can't part with them.
Good man, never sell....
@@FenTour hi
I’ve been away from biking for a while now and I’ve reached retirement age and feel like getting back into biking. John.
Its lovely and quiet..and fast.👍
Not so quiet if you open her up! Hehe
Me too i enjoy my 1400 in 20 years
Outstanding. 👍
Oh man, What a fantastic motorcycle, awesome is just not enogh word, it is way more than that.......lovely lovely lovely bike....Congratulations
When the SuzukiSuzuki GSX came out. There was Yoshimura kit’s for bigger displacement. I don’t know if that still available now.
Yoshimura did a cam set that would make this hit around 145hp without a re-bore.
@@FenTour Oh. Without a bigger displacement. I know that you could buy a bigger bore 1550 something like that…
@@teokastelan2930 indeed there was a 1550 conversion, not sure who made it though.
That’s a proper keeper there, brilliant.
Seen one recently with gold forks and some other cold accents , bike looks fantastic
I prefer them more original, but can look good with careful mods.
Always fancied one of those 14's in that colour scheme, maybe one day
They are now "classics" hope you get to own a Big XJR or GSX one day soon
I’ve got a 99 ZZR1100. To be honest, it feels utterly nuts and I question why I have it. It just begs you to drive it fast everywhere.
Your bike is a very handsome machine.
Indeed those ZZRs are crazy quick, cheers for commenting.
Love it!
Got a K2, modified to 1550cc,
Use very little petrol
That sounds awesome, brutal…
Had mine for 20 years now. I have faster and more comfortable bikes in the garage, but if I was forced to start selling then the big 14 would be last to go. With a few tweaks it is so capable. The best bike I have owned. Period.
Good man, I still ride the GSX infrequently, but like you it will be the last to go...
I would love one of these.. always had a soft spot for them. Alas GS day today
It is an excellent bit to have alongside a GS but not a replacement to a GS. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@@FenTour did you have it out around Marham recently? With another green bike?
@@Gdan85 I was indeed in Marham, but was on my own, I stopped for a GoPro adjustment. 👍
Brilliant, keep enjoying that GSX.
Honestly love these bikes I’ve owned two in my life an my first was my first ever bike after passing my test ( experienced off roader rider ) and as much as I loved them they was just not that fast you would think with being 1400cc they would seriously move Ano they are heavy but they just don’t get going quick enough , maybe I’ll get one in my 50s to easy ride on 👍🤣
As standard it is rather lethargic, prior to my mods and dyno it would not rev much over 6000. Still it’s no sports bike, more a torque monster.
Nice one. I am an owner of an 02 Haybusa myself, and if I ever want to change to a bike that is more comfortable on the wrists, I might consider this.
I am starting to get bogging on my bike and maybe my sparkplugs need replacing too.
yup keep those plugs clean.
A GSX is most special, take care to get a good one and you will be very happy.
I believe that this class of bike will never come as it is. not in EU countries with all the restrictions ... so keeping it is a smart thing to do.
As standard these GSX1400 Suzukies were held back with a restrictive exhaust to try to keep to the 100 hp max to allow sales in France I believe? A crude way to restrict power, luckily easily resolved with the a full system. 126 hp is much more fun.... cheers for commenting.
