      For these type of games, there have been a lot of game engines made that cover a big chunk of the programming. With that said, you still need to create the art work, tile blocks, story, etc and for 1 person, that is still a lot.

      This is one of the many reasons I could never do a channel like this, first you have to constantly be aware of every upcoming indie release, every current release, sort through the rubbish (and there’s way more rubbish than hidden gems, that’s for sure), then after sorting the good ones and placing them in their genre pile, make a ton of videos showcased them in some sort of specific order… then you STILL have to time stamp them all?!?! Look sister, I can talk about games till I’m blue in the face, but the second you put anything in front of me that needs to be properly catalogued, I’m headed straight to the window, or the bathtub with razor in hand! Oh, I wouldn’t exactly say that I’m “afraid of a little work”, I’d say that it’s more that I’m “pants-shitting terrified” of just the THOUGHT of a little work!!! In all honesty, I’m quite perplexed at how I’ve somehow managed to witness a total of 45 summers without dying once (at least not that I know of), but I guess you can’t really count the first 18 being that I had parents who begrudgingly steered me away from the electrical outlets as I ran toward them, arms extended, knife and fork in hand. Unfortunately I can’t say they were as attentive to my needs when it came to playing in traffic. But you know, now that I think about it, that couple who always threw my ball onto the freeway during rush hour did bear a striking resemblance to my parents… Naaaah, it’s just another one of those weird coincidences that have followed me my whole life. Besides, those people both wore crimson capes, and had thick, black, novelty villain mustaches out of those plastic egg gum-ball machines for 25¢ And I’m fairly certain that my mother, although part Italian through marriage, didn’t have a mustache until her late 20’s at the earliest! Well, now that I’ve cleared up that horrible misunderstanding… what the hell were we talking about?

      @@danielbueno8474 I’m a little disappointed, but if “uh….okay” is literally the best you could come up with as a dig at me, then I appreciate the effort, but I do hope you work on your shit-talking skills for the future.
      Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely grateful that you didn’t go with something as shallow as “did you forget to take your meds”, “did you take too much of your meds”
      …But really any comment revolving around “meds” is just straight up ridiculous at this point, when probably
      70%+ of the entire world is on some form of medication. Next time maybe try making fun of my hideous face (while I’m not that hideous, and it’s not like anyone can actually tell, it’s definitely a funnier approach to take), or if all else fails, go for the mom jokes! Nobody will ever, EVER get tired of mom jokes.

    Asterigos is far superior than Thymesia to represent soulslike games
    Also, The Knight Witch is by far the best metroidvania of the year, I played Infernax and it's an injustice not having The Knight Witch instead.

      ok. personal preference and all that

    • @diegosaez4885
      @diegosaez4885 Год назад

      Thymesia's overall issues were a good mix of being short with no replayability, lack of enemy variety and consequently repeatable encounters, Wounds being more harm than good for combat pacing moreso when enemies fight at a slower pace than you and the minibosses being damage sponges, good amount of build option but lacking build/combat variety from them, and mid to bad bossfights (the only personally great ones were Odun's first encounter and Urd, and screw The God of Fools and Song of the Abyss).

    Fantastic list with great variety and fantastic year for indie games. Only one I spontaneously miss is Hardspace Shipbreaker, but I suppose that’s not actually an indie game.

    "There is no Light" takes it for me, amazing story, fun gameplay and a decent amount of content. The first 5-10 min of the game are the weakest, but once you get into it you'll be in for an amazing experience

      I was actually just about to ask you if it gets better after passing the opening tutorial stuff, because it seemed really janky, and unfinished from the 10-15 minute I put into it. I wasn’t even thinking about giving it another chance, but now I think I have no choice. If you by chance played Morbid, or …damn, I can’t remember the name of the other isometric action horror thing that looked great… looked like a resident evil RPG for SNES or PS1, and now not knowing will consume me all night😬

    • @acostica1744
      @acostica1744 Год назад

      @@scottbaylo the main “parry” mechanic remains relevant throughout the game, It gives a sense of rhythm to a lot of fights, which I liked, but if you don’t use it, I can see why you would think is no quite there yet. It does get richer the more weapons and skills from the upgrade tree you get. I only thought the pacing of the story a the beginning was a bit whack, but then the game uses more enviromental storytelling, which I prefer, and the walking/fighting animations of the protagonist were rough to my eye at first, but I got used to them fast enough. Didn’t play those games you mentioned, but morbid looks great!

    • @scottbaylo
      @scottbaylo Год назад +1

      @@acostica1744 I’m glad you told me about the parry being pretty major, because that’s always a huge problem for me. I don’t know what the fuck my problem is, but there are very few games where I am able to do it. Either the parry window is too short, or I hit it too early, it’s a mess! As for Morbid, I promise it’s worth buying blind (but if it has a demo, might as well try it. Funnily enough, I think there’s parrying in that game, but I doubt I ever used it)

    Rogue Legacy is actually probably in the running for my favorite game of all time and it was the first Steam game I got all the achievements for, but for some reason I can't get myself to play the sequel. It's like I'm worried that I won't like it as much so I can't play it. I've literally never even seen the game before now (I couldn't even watch the trailers, I have no idea why) and this footage for it is making it look so good to me. I really need to go and play it.
