Jim Carrey is the only actor who’s capable of pulling this off without it feeling too forced or too silly.
True. I just watched the movie tonight, and this was definitely my favorite scene!
@@wildmountainthyme4123 yes
Absolutely seconded on that!
Nope
Agreed
In the movie Terrence says that you say yes to everything at first to be sure that when the time comes, you will know that you want to do things deeply in your heart, and not just to say yes blindly. Notice that in this scene Carl never is asked or told to help the jumper, he just takes the responsibility for himself, showing that in his heart he truly wanted to, and believed he could, help the guy
Your comment made me burst into tears. 😭
To quote Thor " Cause that's what heroes do."
0:20 a girl yelled "somebody help him'
@@Apudurangdinya yeah but she doesn't specifically say "Carl help him", or "Carl, do you want to help him?" She just says rhetorically "somebody should help him".
"somebody needs to help him" "somebody Help him" "somebody needs to talk him down" He said yes to all 3 but he didnt do it without beeing asked
I kinda want Jim Carrey to do a cover of the whole song....
Yeah right?! his voice is much better than the original one :D
I have to agree with Claden, I'm not a fan of the original.
+easilyamused713 Yeah!! ^^
+Giggity goo Its okay everyone has his own opinion :)
Giggity goo That's cute (:
The part when everyone shouts “you can put the past away” is such a feel good moment
I agree! It makes me cry.
@@kayladee2544 thank you for replying to this so I was brought back to this incredible moment
@@jaymurray2423 I was just watching the movie and wondered if anyone else needed that part. You have a great day. You are destined for greatness..
The sad thing to me is that this is only happening on film (and if
not, holy crap, awesome) and not in reality. Imagine if compassionate, gentle flash mobs erupted to sing to people in need, for instance, the golden gate bridge? I truly am sorry if this is done and in unaware. And soooo grateful because I do think it could be a way to initially talk someone down, and let them feel wanted and needed.. hopefully someone cares to help them with their actual need though as well.
Tears
I watched this movie just once, when it came out, but i just rewatched it. And i realized that the story has a minor twist that makes it really good. Carl isn't a loser. He's not a creep. He's not a jerk. He's just a decent guy that's afraid to take a chance. And that changes the whole movie for me. It's not a corny trope where saying yes is this magical phrase that turns a jerk that hates everyone into the greatest person on the planet. No, it's a story about a decent guy who finally gets a chance to be himself. And that just makes it a great movie for me.
Great interpretation!
Awesome
I disagree. I think your interpretation removes Carl's autonomy, that his life being turned around was just fate. I think that's much more corny than the idea that changing our behaviour (ie. saying yes) changes who we are. He was a jerk, he was a creep, he was a loser, and he *chose* to leave it behind and try something new. Carl had plenty of chances to go to his boss' parties and be his friend and he had plenty of chances to be a better friend to Bradley Cooper's character. An early scene in the movie shows that he thinks his friend has only been dating his fiance for 6 months, when it's actually been 2 years. Carl has had so many chances that he's always said no to. It's a great movie because that applies to all of us. We all need to start taking the opportunities in our life and stop waiting for fate to live our lives for us.
I think that's also what makes this scene so powerful is that Carl has actually embodied the idea that "you can put the past away"; you past choices don't get to decide your present choices.
@@Ethan-tn4jc
_"I think your interpretation removes Carl's autonomy"_
The whole point of the movie is that his autonomy is removed because he no longer has the choice of saying "no". Would be nice if you explained how my interpretation is removing his autonomy.
_"that his life being turned around was just fate"_
Never said such a thing. Also, again, that's kinda the premise of the movie. Are you somehow saying that Carl went to that seminar and started saying "yes" to everything because he knew that at some point he will say "yes" to guitar lessons and end up saving this guy's life? Are you telling me that this whole chain of events isn't fate? That is the whole premise of the movie. Let yourself go, be free, and see where life and fate take you.
_"He was a jerk, he was a creep, he was a loser"_
Loser, yes. But jerk and creep? He most definitely was none of those things.
_"Carl had plenty of chances to go to his boss' parties and be his friend and he had plenty of chances to be a better friend to Bradley Cooper's character"_
He didn't do that because he didn't want to get out of his comfort zone, that he didn't believe that it could be in any way good for him to do it, and because he was socially awkward. Not because he was a jerk. Being an introvert, or at least a less sociable person, doesn't make you a jerk or a creep.
_"An early scene in the movie shows that he thinks his friend has only been dating his fiance for 6 months, when it's actually been 2 years"_
In order to show just how much he was actually missing out on.
_"We all need to start taking the opportunities in our life and stop waiting for fate to live our lives for us."_
Except Carl was not waiting on fate. He simply did not want to do anything.
This movie is so underrated. It's so funny, yet has a nice deeper meaning. Jim Carrey is truly gifted.
All those classes he took paid off. This movie is an inspiration that you can do anything if you actually get out there and do it instead of staying at home.
Welllllllll yes and no, I mean you would need A LOTTTT of time and practice at all of these different things to be as good as he is like for example speaking another language fluently, doesn't happen in a week or a few weeks. And learning to play guitar I mean you couldn't do that to that degree in a few weeks.
But yeah! If you practice a bunch of different things at once and really get a feel for everything, eventually you can be really good at many different things.
Okay I'll do it tomorrow
@@Voltaic314 Well... the movie does take place over several months according to the scene with the FBI guys, so it isn't as farfetched as some movies.
You definitely could learn Jumper after playing for a few months
Oh I didnt notice that while they explained it throughout the movie.! Guess you gotta pay attention....
When I first saw this movie I was going through major depression. This movie played a role in helping me make it through the other side of it, and this scene especially. I fucking love Jim Carrey.
Glad you found something to hold on. Hang in there brother.
glad you made it through. im sure your not the only one that thinks the same way. "when you do things just right, they won't think you've done anything at all" - futurama
Sending you much love ❤️
@rohit puri this movie wasn’t nearly as good as his old movies like Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber and Liar Liar
@@nsasupporter7557 What does this has to do with anything tho? He didn't compared to anything, he didn't say anything about being the best Jim Carrey movie. He just shared a nice story from his life, and yet… you managed to make about a competition on what movie is the best.
best part is when he nods in agreement with "patience is a virtue".
Haha I was thinking the same thing, the little subtle details like this make it hilarious
The whole third eye blind album has saved millions of lives. Facts
Yes. It's a perfect album
Less people the better tho
Thanks for sharing never heard of them
Everyone should be required to listen to Third Eye Blind’s first album
I love the way Luis Guzman hits "You know you don't belong". He sounds like he's genuinely hurting. This was always one of the more powerful verses of the song for me.
Great actor
This is the song you get when the suicide hotline puts you on hold.
Really?
+clowntrooper61 no its more like give me a second there's alot of people on this line.
I would do this when i see a jumper...
Same. I mean I can't play a guitar but I would sing it.
That you even have to be put on hold on the SUICIDE hotline is kinda sad...
I know that it is just a film, but just think if more people went out of their way to do something so positive for someone who was feeling so bad.
Unfortunately people are too worried about what we are on right now and other forms of social media. Self image>human life to a lot of people these days.
@@rebelrangerharv5191 dont forget litigation culture has ruined everything, happens alot; someone has a heart attack and a trained individual saves their life via CPR, ends up getting a summons to court because it was unwanted. we live in a mad world where its almost safer to stand by and do nothing for fear of opportunistic people making easy money off of your morals and honor.
@@RageAZA that is also true. I'd rather go to jail though rather than letting somebody die. I understand if other people don't, but that's just me.
Todd Morris yup Imagine
I was once a taxi driver and I too was for helping others at every opportunity.I quickly learnt being the Good Samaritan brings on far more trouble than you ever could imagine.
I like how he takes time to tune the guitar unlike in other movies where they pick up some strangers guitar and play some old folk tune perfectly.
This film inspired me to get out more.

He's really good at singing
You should hear him sing Roxanne on the show In Living Color.
Roman Fox or somebody to love
Daily, that too.
I think if people watched the clip I'm talking about it would make more sense.
I don't think anybody gets the reference though.
sucks to be old
Roman Fox he did a cover of Radiohead's creep as well...check it out
Charred, watching it right now.
Hasn't started singing yet...
... not my favorite of his, but it's alright.
I wish Jim Carrey would record a full cover version.

The full scene is amazing , but for me the “I’ve got blisters on me fingers” had me crying with laughter 😂
Yes it was to make you cry and laugh all together!
I’ve been looking for this comment
It was a Beatles reference.
Yes, he did that impression perfectly
Made me burst out laughing 😂😂 such a good impression
In all honesty how do you not get goosebumps watching this. Its so weirdly triumphant
People thought Jim Carrey was in decline at this point and I always refer them to this scene.
I looked at this scene as messed up at first but when the crowd cam the chillls
@@melodyconte The movie is fun and wholesome in general. And weirdly triumphant, is a pretty good way to describe the whole movie 😆
This is what the music video to that song should have been like
Agreed
Yeah love the song but disappointed with the video
SexyGamerDude the video had fuck all to do with the song
this is definitely one of his best movies ever
Definitely just after The mask 1 & 2, Ace venture part 1 & 2, liar liar, The cable guy, Dumb and Dumber, me myself and ernie?
Rakano mask 2 doesn't even have Jim Carrey in it. and no this one tops all his other movies
clericofchaos1 Dude you're still alive, and i respect your opinion.
Rakano The Mask 2 is one of the worst movies ever. Haha.
Awesomesaxdude and like I tried to tell him, that's not even a Jim Carrey movie
I give credit to this movie for introducing me to Third Eye Blind
Yep same here. They are sick
@Lana Deschanel you live in my dream 😂
They were my first concert back in the 90s I was 10 years old..wow 20 years has gone by too fast...
My introduction was a suicide prevention video we watched in health class in 2012. I was a high school sophomore.
Their first album was awesome. Every song seemed like it was better than the last and EVERY song on that album was great!
Petition too convince jim carrey too make an album of cover songs.
The fact that 14 years later, Luiz Guzman went from this uncredited yet iconic role to Gomez Addams is what truly makes my heart feel warm.
Dude was in tv and movies for over 20 years before this movie came out... in some pretty big movies and tv shows.
@@Diviance . wasn't he in big daddy?
@@Diviance . Oh anger management with Adam Sandler.

A person with a guitar is known to do this very so often, you know.

When the crowd says you can put the past away 🥺 I felt that

Whenever I feel severely depressed, I need to remind myself to come back to this video because it legitimately helps me.
the power of art bro

They should really do a jim carrey version of this song
Ahah you're right
Agreed!
Can we take a moment to appreciate the hilarious realism inserted into this scene where he has to tune the guitar before playing it?
I want to start a petition for him to release a full cover of this song
no lie.. jim carrey could be a musical artist.
I get chills when the guy starts singing himself
"I wish could step back from that leadge mah FRIENDAH!"
If Jim Carrey did a full cover it would become my favorite song
He actually sounds sooooo good
Is it on the soundtrack
You know you have issues when as soon as he sings "I would understand" you break down.... I've been battling an Anxiety disorder and Depression for the worst part of 8 years now and this song really hits me in the heart. Wish Jim Carey would do a full cover because it's actually better than the original. To all suffering with mental health or know someone who is it will be ok keep soldiering on. You matter ❤ xx

I'VE GOT BLISTERS ON ME FING'RS, that line has me laughing every time without fail 🤣
I was listening to the original version of jumper for a much more depressing reason, but since I love this movie, I decided to listen to it after. And it kind of turned my whole mood around. We never know how far the ripples of our actions may travel. Jim Carey has probably saved actual lives and didn't even realize it ❤

Fun fact the reason he screamed it was because Paul McCartney didn't like any of the takes they were doing, so McCartney kept having everyone doing the song over and over again with minor differences. Eventually Ringo go so tired of doing the same song he screamed the famous line from frustration.
