I saw this in the theater. I've *never, ever,* heard audience laughter so loud it completely drowned out the film audio for almost a solid minute. It was the kind of doubled-over laughter you expect to hear at a comedy club.
Honestly, the best part for me is at 1:23: the fact that Steve can keep a straight face here, read his notes, acknowledges "oh that's what I'm supposed to say" and then burst into a second wave of gibberish is one of the best comedy sketches in movie ever. The entire scene is gold, but his steadfast nature makes this ten times better.
The way that Steve just goes completely off the chain whilst keeping those deadpan professional newsreader eyes fixed on the camera the whole time, and the way you can see the abject terror in his face when he knows he has absolutely no control over himself or his situation are criminally underrated bits of acting.

Well he didn't make him choose anything. I think free will in this context is depicted as the freedom of choice. He controlled him in a short window but didn't make any life choices for him like who he loves. Fast and loose rules of course.

We humans are simple beings. Although he might have those powers he is still a human with emotions and thoughts. God is omnipresent and has basically mastered these powers. He doesn’t have to think as he already has thought of the past present and future. Bruce on the other hand still can’t comprehend all these powers and might not even think of half of them.
Steve Carrell is brilliant and very funny in this scene, but I'm really impressed by Jim Carrey's performance. He learned Carrell's ad lib gibberish and mimicked it absolutely perfectly. No-one can compete with him when it comes to distorting his face in varied hilarious ways.
So, for that scene, the way Carrey moved his mouth was from how Carrell moved his mouth. That makes sense, but is ironic because Carrell's character moved his mouth from how Carrey's character moved his mouth.
The fact that this was so early in his career that he was credited as "Steven Carell" is crazy. It's a minor role, but you can see that he's obviously a master comedic actor, even at this point.

This scene has aged so well because there's no CGI, its all in acting and interpretation. Starting from Steve's great acting, synchronized with Jim Carrey's charisma, and "Bruce's" (the character) intention of embarrassing Evan.
I like that they deleted the scene of him making Evan's nose just POUR blood. It makes Bruce seem like less of a douche abusing his powers to embarass a rival and more of a sociopath taking violent revenge.

Back in 2013 I was watching with mom tv news, with a very good presenter who was an elder guy and was very good at this job. But that one day he was speaking in a more and more laid-back and funny way, acting like he isn't 100% serious. We were completely surprised as he NEVER acted like that, but everyone liked him, we too, and we tried to explain that he might be under influence of alcohol as a couple days before as it turnt out in calendar there was a name's day of the same name he had. The next day it turnt out, that the poor guy was having a heart attack on live, and we were actually seeing it, he was feeling worse and worse and still didn't stop, trying to compensate with humour and to somehow go till the end of news... It was the last time he was on the tv, as he lost conciousness later, was reanimated and passed away in the hospital on 31st December, so literally at the end of the year :/
I remember when I was little and watching this with my friend, we were dying of laughter. I almost sh*t my pants... Good old days and it's also nostalgic.
I use to smile - no more than that - when I rarely watch to comedies. But this time I laughed out loud and rewind it to laugh just the same. And did it for three or four times. Absolutely geniuses: both Carrel and Carey. And I must add this: the voice of Tony Bennett is the perfect balance between power and sweetness like no one ever had.
As a kid, this was the first time I ever cried from laughing so hard.

When this film came out I was a kid. I took it for granted that this scene was funny. Today I'm just in awe at how synced these two are, how brilliantly it is cut and how much hard work rehearsals must have been. ❤️❤️❤️

I can't stop laughing! I remember watching this movie in the theater. I couldn't stop laughing and tears were rolling down my cheeks and my sides were hurting. The rest of the audience was rolling on the floor too.
Everybody went hysterical in the theater, people were laughing so hard over this scene, drinks, popcorn launched upwards, women were screaming" I'd pee'd muhself", I farted somewhat, which made us all laugh harder. Good times. 🤣

Back in 2013 I was watching with mom tv news, with a very good presenter who was an elder guy and was very good at this job. But that one day he was speaking in a more and more laid-back and funny way, acting like he isn't 100% serious. We were completely surprised as he NEVER acted like that, but everyone liked him, we too, and we tried to explain that he might be under influence of alcohol as a couple days before as it turnt out in calendar there was a name's day of the same name he had. The next day it turnt out, that the poor guy was having a heart attack on live, and we were actually seeing it, he was feeling worse and worse and still didn't stop, trying to compensate with humour and to somehow go till the end of news... It was the last time he was on the tv, as he lost conciousness later, was reanimated and passed away in the hospital on 31st December, so literally at the end of the year :/
I remember when I was little and watching this with my friend, we were dying of laughter. I almost sh*t my pants... Good old days and it's also nostalgic.

I use to smile - no more than that - when I rarely watch to comedies. But this time I laughed out loud and rewind it to laugh just the same. And did it for three or four times. Absolutely geniuses: both Carrel and Carey. And I must add this: the voice of Tony Bennett is the perfect balance between power and sweetness like no one ever had.
