But then Jack might have been good too. We don't know because it didn't happen. The idea seems weird because we're so used to these films as they are and it's unimaginable. But it's not unimaginable that Pacino would have done a great job too.
It is certainly in my greatest films of all time list along with The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. Francis Ford Coppola had unbelievable vision.
The fact that this movie lost to a movie about some dumb divorce movie called “Kramer vs. Kramer” that no one has ever even heard of as picture of the year makes me hate hollywood even more
Thanks for putting this up so that anyone born after 1940 (aka when Martin was born and more specifically after 1980 was when I was born) can get a glimpse of Martin talking about himself at his worst to maybe attempt to figure out some of the gyst of his son's struggles.
@razbigranicu Martin Sheens only problem is that he exudes niceness. Pacino/Niro convice as good or 'bad guy', thus giving them a wider range to play with and for directors to exploit. Sheen is too pleasant, responsible and humane to be truly believable as a 'bad guy', or antagonist (a flawed character, sure, but not a rapist/killer/gangster, etc). Unfortunately this cuts down his possibilities by maybe 50%. Then again those exact qualities got him the West Wing gig so I doubt he's complaining.
Is Martin Sheen or Francis Ford Coppola lying about the historic hotel room scene? In this vid at 1:14 Martin suggests it was all his decision and he BEGGED for the scene to continue. But here’s an interview where FFC stated that HE insisted on rolling the cameras after Sheen cut his hand at - ruclips.net/video/qN9tnejBZjI-/видео.html6:05 Intriguing and I’m a little suspicious that Sheen may be embellishing his story somewhat. It’s likely they both felt they should continue the scene, yet they both claim it was their idea.

johnny marlin Have you’ve ever read Conrad?
@@peterb2325 Yes it's brilliant. The hearts of darkness going up the river to finally face Kurtz who has gone insane..
One of his most sensitive and vulnerable performances was in "The Subject Was Roses". Great movie that was once a stage play.
@razbigranicu I think Pacino would have been excellent, it would just have been different. If he'd starred in it we'd now be saying "thank God it wasn't Martin Sheen", in the same way people thank God that Jack Nicholson wasn't Michael in The Godfather. But then Jack might have been good too.
We don't know because it didn't happen. The idea seems weird because we're so used to these films as they are and it's unimaginable. But it's not unimaginable that Pacino would have done a great job too.
martin sheen made one of the best performances in apocalypse now
very well said raz....
emilio and martin seem a lot more similar compared to charlie and martin
great i/v!
Only on the hotel room scene that performance should have won him an Oscar...
This is the greatest film ever, no debate.
It is certainly in my greatest films of all time list along with The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. Francis Ford Coppola had unbelievable vision.
Or Taxi Driver, Jaws
Makes sense, since the character was modeled after him. :D
This is a great Man......thanks Mr Martin Sheen. You are a true Warrior.
The fact that this movie lost to a movie about some dumb divorce movie called “Kramer vs. Kramer” that no one has ever even heard of as picture of the year makes me hate hollywood even more
Hollywood sucks.
Interesting that he mentions Julian Beck who played Kane the old man in Poltergeist 2! Nice tribute.
I agree with your thoughts--but I think your comment about 20 years is being MASSIVELY generous frankly (hate to think that but prove me otherwise)
And man, how handsome he is!
Man he looks and sound like Charlie...
Martin Sheen didn't even get nominated for the Oscar for his work. One of the greatest injustices in the history of cinema.
He should have won.
One of the great bafflements was the lack of awards for his performance
Thanks for putting this up so that anyone born after 1940 (aka when Martin was born and more specifically after 1980 was when I was born) can get a glimpse of Martin talking about himself at his worst to maybe attempt to figure out some of the gyst of his son's struggles.
@macmaccaman On looking back at this (fairly old) comment, I'd have to say you're right. I've seen Badlands too. Kit was one messed-up character.
GREG STILLMAN FOR PRESIDENT
not at all. he is showing more wisdom about his demons.
too old at 36?
well, you need to understand that he was playing the role of a captain. A person that could be in his late 20s
No, still don't understand. You mean like Conrad was?. Sorry, I'm a little slow!
itsjustskinsteven stevens "too old" for the age the _character_ was supposed to be.
Martin Sheen should have got that Oscar it's a disgrace
He actually kinda looks like illusive man too.
Is Martin Sheen or Francis Ford Coppola lying about the historic hotel room scene?
In this vid at 1:14 Martin suggests it was all his decision and he BEGGED for the scene to continue. But here’s an interview where FFC stated that HE insisted on rolling the cameras after Sheen cut his hand at - ruclips.net/video/qN9tnejBZjI-/видео.html6:05
Intriguing and I’m a little suspicious that Sheen may be embellishing his story somewhat. It’s likely they both felt they should continue the scene, yet they both claim it was their idea.
