- In this video I talk about a very nice external cd drive that I got on amazon. I got this because had a bunch of old cd's and my laptop doesn't have a cd drive. It works well and I am very happy with it! I hope this helps.

I've never seen someone so blown away by the open and close functions of a disk tray or the fact that a laser light is used to read dvds and cds.
Would've been useful If you showed how It works for DVD's.
I just got one got no manual and it doesnt work. I watched one movie and now it's not working and I have a brand new computer. how do I fix I am off grid for a few so this is why I'm using it but nothing all dayy
Good review. I just bought one, and it seems to burn CDs to iTunes just fine. I’m seeing people say that they needed to download software for one reason or the other. Do I need software to transfer music from a cd to iTunes, even if it’s already working? Thanks

I got one of these recently because it was rated one of the best. Took us a min to find a dvd media player to play. It plays cds right of the bat. Haven't done the rw option yet. This plays really good and recommended. Bought off of eBay for around 20 bucks. I mainly got it so I can play diablo again after so many years. (-:
I have this same driver but it does not seem to play the mini dvd-rw or dvd-r dvd's...help?????

Dude, it’s an optical drive. It uses light to read. It’s not a laser weapon.

On the product box, it does say not look at the laser light. I got the same warning on my product box also.
I have a new ASUS Laptop. When I plugged the DVD (Gotega) into my laptop, the laptop didn't recognize it.
Will I be able to use my Rossetta Stone dvd with it? Will my laptop be able to recognize it?

I’ve got one of those as well and failed :( And then I opened and an old laptop DVD reader writer was inside refurbished or only parts of old laptops are being used so asked for reimburse no issues then after opened ir I move it with some strength like trying to bend it but not full strength and tested again and it worked so I put it back in to the case tested again and worked is kind of noisy after ripping a movie and failed to ripp the second one but at least I’m able to read the DVDs
Still trying to figure mine out. My laptop is a newer Dell Windows 10, Inspiron. Not really finding the drive or anything real easy. Going to go through instructions again and see if I missed something. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Just got one of these to use with my Mac MIni. It plays homemade DVDs just fine (like one we made of our old home movies) but won't play my commercial DVDs. The media viewer comes up and nothing else happens. Not sure what's going on.
if you are in the US you have to choose region 1 in properties otherwise it won't play
I haven't used a DVD drive in a billion years. As soon as I build a new PC without one I need it. Lol.
It says no need to install a driver. Plug and play. But it wont run. The PC says I need to download a driver.

Just bought one and I cannot get a simple cd disc to load. Just flashes green and does nothing. A piece of junk.

You need to get a burner which has two usb connectors. These burners are just old laptop drives which are put into enclosures.

Mine just clicks when I put a disk in, then opens. No matter the disk. Example, just a commercially recorded music disk. So did the one I replaced, that's why I bought another one. :(

@@taloulalila I have 4/5 year old computer, Windows 10 I was using it for. Yesterday... I plugged the CD player into my laptop and it made totally different sounds, like it was searching. However, I haven't had time to see what program I have to play the CD, or whatever it takes from this point. So try it on another computer to see if it is your Player, or your computer? ??
Good review. Thanks. There seems to be an issue with this device, however. When it's working, it works well. For some reason, however. it stops working after a while. It seems to be a driver issue. In the instruction manual, there are instructions for when the device doesn't work, but the instructions themselves aren't very clear. I have not been able to get the device to work again. I am looking for the manufacturer's site for better instructions. Cheers!

I have this Gotega drive and it will play some of my commercial DVDs and some it will not. I think it's been mislabeled as it's a better CD burner than a DVD player.
How much did you end up paying for yours? I just ordered mine last night through Amazon warehouse and got it for only $13.79. Hopin it turns out okay. Almost went with the verbatim brand but saw this deal and jumped on it.

I have the Gotega External DVD Drive featured in this video that I bought from Amazon as well. And of course most of them appear to work great initially. However, this Gotega external drive will play some of my commercial DVDs and some it will not play. And yes, I put it in the correct region. I want a reliable external DVD drive that will play ALL my commercial DVDs, not a hit and miss device.

Mine lasted 3 months. Now you won't even turn on what you jacked whatever you put in there. It's garbage.

I don't like this disc drive at all. I got it bc it was cheap and I wanted to rip music from my cds onto my laptop. Sure it gets the job done, but it's also a pain in the butt and you get what you pay for. The issue I always have is the cd tray constantly popping open on its own when I'm trying to rip the cds. It can't be the cds bc it happens to every cd I put in. I'll put the cd in and have to close it again like 7 times bc it just keeps popping back open when trying to read the cd. Then sometimes when I'm ripping the cd. It'll just pop open on it's own interrupting the whole process and I'll have to start back from sqaure one. It's super annoying and I'd recommend getting a better disc drive personally. I managed to get all the cds I have ripped onto my laptop. So I don't use the thing too much anymore bc all the music from the cds are downloaded in my files on my laptop for me to listen to when ever I feel with the click of a button, but I do plan on possibly getting a better one that doesn't have as much issues with the trey opening and closing mechanic. Bc I do like buying cds of old artist I liked as a child and ripping to tunes onto my laptop to listen to when ever I feel. Since CDs are starting to go obsolete now and they're taking away disc drives from just about every device now.
