The world was doomed the moment Caim and Angelus are shot down over Tokyo. Everything done to try and save humanity from the white chlorination syndrome was just delaying the inevitable extinction. The gestalt process was faulty and yet they proceeded with it in hopes of finding the cause and cure for the relapses later. They never did, and once the replicants started gaining sentience the pace of relapses intensified, which forced Devola and Popola to initiate forced reinsertion of gestalts into replicant bodies. But even had this been successful, humanity would have died out anyway because... replicants couldn't reproduce. They were all infertile.
the replicants are only infertile while the gestalts are outside their original bodies, once both the gestalt and replicants merge, they become full human and fertile the gestalt plan was a pretty good plan, the whole idea was that humans would seperate their bodies and souls in order to prevent the WCS, using the replicants while they were still mindless to clean the world of Maso, and then once that was done, merge gestalt and replicant and rebuild the world, the only kink in that was the replicants developing a consciousness, which ultimately doomed them all but even grimoire nier had that whole line on kaine being posessed by a gestalt that wasnt her own, and that the gestalt-replicant project could go in a new direction because of that
I would have just started a race war anyway. Shades vs Replicants would have just turned to Shades vs Humans. There were no baby replicants, but there were baby shades, who would have grew up into dangerous monsters. Can someone explain to me something. Was Kaine human when she still had her shade form by the end, or was that a failed transfusion of any kind. She's the only one so it's quite unclear if it would have been successful or not because she does go berserk anyway.
How would he even pull a new series from this ending? Earth is fucking dead. Gone. The aliens are dead, humanity is dead, the machines are dead. The only thing that's still alive is probably the original Emil. What the hell is he gonna do? Fuck, man. Sorry, this ending just really depressed me. -.-
i think he'll go back into the past next and detail the early 21th century...the hamelin organization's fight against the Legion is an important part of history
Catherine J.G, Yoko Taro pulled the NieR series out of "AND THEN CAIM ENDS UP IN MODERN DAY TOKYO, KILLS THE QUEEN-BEAST THROUGH A RYTHM GAME AND THEN GETS SHOT TO DEATH BY THE JAPANESE ARMY". Do you still doubt his ability to make up the best stories out of stupid joke endings ?
+Syabri Except fan theory states Caim lives. I believe CLEMPS sums it up perfectly in his NieR lore video. The theory has a lot of solid backing to it given the situation in Drakengard's D ending as well as NieR's in-game and out-of-game lore. But yes, Taro is truly a legend at making compelling stories out of joke endings.
THE CENTPEDE BOSS MAKES SENSE NOW, Aliens would not have knowledge of this kinda shape but Emil would because of obviously the bug, so every robot IS based off ot Emil
MrInuhanyou123 I can see how some people would come to that conclusion, as A2, Kaine, and Zero all seem to be the same type of character: sexy, white-haired women with horrible pasts. It's not impossible, due to how the Dragonsphere views the soul as magic. Eve and Adam even have the Cult of the Watcher's runes on them, even though they seemingly have nothing to do with Manah and One's bloodline.
I wonder what the grotesqeries even want at this point? In Drakengard 1, their entire goal was human extinction yet that has already happend albeit not in the same timeline granted. I wonder are they aiming at the moon server to stop humanity from being reborn? Apparently there is still human cell geonomes and memories stored there which makes humanity being refashioned from that not 0%

Any time throughout the game where Emil speaks about Kaine and Nier I always get chills. It reminds me of when I first played NieR and it saddens me 'cause they all go through so much. This series is truly a masterpiece and hitting fans where it truly hurts. My poor child. . .
"The world my friend tried to save"? Nier and co weren't even trying to save the world, they were just trying to accomplish the selfish task of saving Yonah instead of listening to Devola and Popola who already warned them that they weren't even the original humans.
stealtheirmoola Alright, so I understand the confusion here. Basically, the true ending to Nier is found outside the game. Ending E, has the band reuniting, including Nier, who was revived somehow (can't remember ATM) and basically they go off in an attempt to stop the Black scrawl from killing all the Replicants, but obviously they fail.
I remember stumbling across this area way early in the game just because I noticed a huge chunk of the map that was being unused. From a distance, the sand obscured it enough that it looked like a pile of weird orbs. Then I saw Emil's face on one. Having already beaten all of Nier before Automata, I think this area was on my mind for most of my playthrough, wondering what it meant up until this sequence.

I'll be honest. I wasn't crying on ending A,B,C,D or E I wasn't crying on cutscenes, i was really moved... But Emil, THIS GODDAMN EMIL bring me to tears. Damn emil.
The fact that there are two distinct dialogue provided by 2B and A2 (depends on who you do the quest with) is just very neat commitment to detail from the developer.. and yeah, the sad reminder of what Emil had gone through, all his despair until now, with the memory of his companions in NieR and the conclusion of this particular sidequest too would make an oasis of tears in that fateful desert :')

the replicants are only infertile while the gestalts are outside their original bodies, once both the gestalt and replicants merge, they become full human and fertile
the gestalt plan was a pretty good plan, the whole idea was that humans would seperate their bodies and souls in order to prevent the WCS, using the replicants while they were still mindless to clean the world of Maso, and then once that was done, merge gestalt and replicant and rebuild the world, the only kink in that was the replicants developing a consciousness, which ultimately doomed them all
but even grimoire nier had that whole line on kaine being posessed by a gestalt that wasnt her own, and that the gestalt-replicant project could go in a new direction because of that
I would have just started a race war anyway.
Watch when in 2-10 years time Yoko Taro will spawn a new series from this ending.
Either this or ending L.
I-I don't think they're stupid. .//.//.
...Bat-shit insane, but stupid?
.....Okay yeah no, they are kinda stupid.
But still! Yes, I doubt Yoko Taro!

I love Emil and it breaks my heart all the things he went through. Even the way he talks in this breaks my heart. A player could interpret this as an exposition dump, but having suffered and lived so long, telling us all his feelings isn't surprising.
As someone who played the first Nier back than and was blown away by this game. (It changed my overall view on games & made me think twice about the overall generic grand sheme of the gaming world)

Here after finishing ending E in the Nier Replicant Remaster
The first time you fight Emil in the cave outside his “house” you get the Emil heads weapon. If you read the full weapon story they are journal notes from Emil dating about 1000 years AFTER Automata’s events.
