bought this tripod with the Manfrotto (3-way) 804RC2, reading up about it and found this guide made it a given choise for me. After seeing it in action i was sold. had it a few months now and exept being a bit heavy if you dont plan to use a carrying bag for it. Its pritty mutch perfect with all the accessories one can buy for this :)
nice video matey. i have had my tripod for almost a year and had been very frustrated it couldn't get almost to the ground. i didnt realise the adjustable column neck could be turned upside down. brilliant. just brilliant. low angle photography here i come.
Excellent review. My indecision has ended after this video. I have a Canon 40 d with 24-70 L. After searching the net for a good tripod and head, swayed by the reviews I tilted towards RRS BH-40 LR-mid-sized ballhead and an L plate. But after seeing this video ( as you demonstrated the duo - Manfretto 055xprob and 488RC2 ball head with heavier rig) I was convinced and made up my mind and bought the same pair a fortnight ago. They seem to be a winning pair. Solid design at an affordable price.
it's a bit of work doing it IMO, and the camera ends up up side down. Check the "The Silver Pad", they lets you have your camera very low and stable, work with telephoto as well.
Thanks for the video, now i am so tempted to get this setup for my D300. I tried the 468C2 head earlier but find it not very steady if mounted with sigma 150f2.8 lens.
great vid man. got a manfrotto 808rc4 but want to buy a 055xprob. tobad you didnt showed how much weight the tripod could handle if the center is in horizontal position.
The 808RC4 isn't a ball head is it? Isn't it just a pan/tilt type of head? To me, ball heads are just so much easier to work with. If you have money, definitely go for the 468MGRC2 otherwise the 488RC2is pretty good.
Oh, one other question: can the center column be fixed at any angles other than horizontal? Or are the only positions vertical, horizontal, and inverted?
Great review! Thanks for this, I have been looking at the 055XproB for a long time; and have been trying to figure out which ballhead to get. You did a great job demonstrating the differences between the 488 and 486 heads. I am still somewhat interested in the Giottos heads, and wonder if any other people have experience with them?
If i had gone with the bogen head i would be preparing to sell it right now...just a word of advise if you dont know giottos, i didnt, but nothing against manfrotto, i love it as well, i just bought this tripod but to go with the giottos head
Thanks for the review, i don't know if u'll ever see this, but do you think the $40 difference between the 488rc2 and 808rc4 is justified? whats the major difference between the two?
I would advise anyone looking to buy the 488rc2 or similar to first take a look at the Giottos MH1301, i was about to press the button on the bogen head when i discovered what giottos had to offer, i was blown away, you get at least 2 times the build quality and 2 times the pro performance and at least 4 times the durability and more load capacity for the same price
Hi, Thanks for the video and showing the stability of the camera when pushing on the camera. How much does the camera move around/shake if you're using focus magnifier/zoom and then start to rotate the manual focus ring on the lens? My current combo is hopeless in this scenario making manual focus when in focus magnifier impossible.

brilliant brilliant review dude, been searching for which legs and head to get, and this is it, loving the simplicity of the head, soooo quick

Thanks for the review! I think this may be for me.
why would I want a tripod that move around when I touch it?

good review I was looking for the same combination...Thank you
thank you. i've been reading comment about 3 days to see 488RC2 stable with heave camera. Now i can put money on it without any worry.
Nice review and nice write up in the canon forum...
can any one tell me the difference with the Manfrotto 055PROB and the 055XPROB
Cool. Thanks for the review, even with the chimes, it was very helpful.

Thanks! Great video. Just ordered myself the 055xprob and 488rc2 :-)
Does this ball head work on all Manfrotto monopods, or is there some sort of compatability chart I need to look at?
I love those bells.
Oh, one other question: can the center column be fixed at any angles other than horizontal? Or are the only positions vertical, horizontal, and inverted?
@rjmoore001 are they too tight??
Thanks

you should get the 808RC4, it's much better than what you have. I have the 055XPROB as well and the 808RC4 doesn't make it much heavier! it's awesome
Yeah wind chimes are great when on their own, not whilst trying to listen to the information in the video. it's super annoying.
Nice soundtrack

Get rid of the wind chimes!
Thumbs up the possitive comment about the wind chimes
Thumbs down the negative comment about it!
Wind chimes ruuule!
Hey I can't hear the wind chimes over all that review stuff! Shhhhh
that is funny
