I look forward to these. I never fail to learn something new, if not the technique then a camera or photoshop feature than I hadn't used. As an aside I am amazed when I see these that there are a few twits that would give free education a thumbs down. Blimey, it does take all kinds to make the world go about. Thanks Gavin from across the pond !
you are very skilled you are helping a lot of people with your videos!!! especially me because I'm an animation student please keep on doing videos!!!! thank you!
Thanks for another great tutorial, Gav :-) Played around with it yesterday and ran into problems filling in a 3rd overlapping person. So I was very happy to see you adressing this in particular :-)) Thanks and greetings from Denmark
Great tutorial once again! Gavin, would you able to show how to make borders around pics, I know it must be fairly simple technique. I have seen various on youtube but nothing of the sort I want. I want to make borders on the top and bottom only keeping the pic 16:9 ratio. Im sure you'd be able to guide. Thanks
Any lighting can be used. Room lighting, window light or flash is all good. Nothing should change in each photo (except the person). Flash is good because every flash of light will be the same.
Great tutorial! Can't wait to try it but I have a question going back to the photo-taking piece of it. How did you prefocus yourself when you are not sitting on the couch? That's always been my problem : (
How did you focus on yourself (selves)? Using the auto select focus points and hope the camera finds you or just focus on the sofa and put the lens in Manual?
Great video Gavin. The internet lacks only two things, 15 minute photo challenges and good clear lighting videos. Do you think you'll do more lighting stuff like you briefly touched on here?
my silly question is this : when i copy paste another picture into my main picture, it appears very small..how i will make it work the way i want? (appearing in same size as the original) thank you
question, I'm doing this with many pictures (up to ten). If I forget something on the first picture, is there a way to make a hole in the first of the ten? My problem is that I keep forgetting a shoe or a hat from time to time.
I LIKE WATCHIN YOUR VIDS, VERY INFORMATIVE... QUESTION FOR U , WHAT ARE THE CAMERA LENSES I SHOULD HAVE FOR STARTING OUT. I WANNA TAKE A PHOTO CLASS. JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE EQUIPMENT I SHOULD HAVE JUST STARTING OUT ?? THANKYOU
Hey gavin just want to ask a question. I had Canon 60D and I am wondering why most of photographer like nikon than canon what is the advantage of this to canon? I know you had 5D markII and can you suggest a good super wide angle glass? Thanks
awesome work dude...will try this out! the terrible part is just that I only have a D60 18-55vr nothing else :( Any way...can you make a tutorial how to make long exposure shots for landscape. Many thanks and one more time awesome work!
@PhotoGavin Yah I guess it is the way you are leaning that makes it look strange when thought about, but really you don't notice anything wrong in the final product because really there isn't anything wrong.
Thank you Gavin! After a few strokes with the paint brush, I was able to accomplish this interesting task. I utilized natural light with backdrop of main living room, so the magic wand was a bit tedious but well worth the energy. Mahalo!
@marfianik: I don't know Aperture, but the photoshop part is quite straight ahead. With a little google-work and trial&error you are going to get this with GIMP easily (which is quite charming as it is freeware) Menu titles will be different, but the workflow is quite the same. The more important thing is not to move the cam during shots. Otherwise you will have to realign them which can be hard...
Gavin, this is a great tutorial! I'm going to try this with my photo group on one of the next studio shoots. Let's see what happens there... :o) Special thanks for the PS tut. This helps a lot to arrange the final picture, especially your secret hints regarding the selection optimization. Maybe one thing is missing: What if I have to realign the pictures... ;o)
Gavin, I have become such a better photographer ever since I start watching you.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
i'm a beginner in photography and your the best teacher that i've ever watched online. You are so cool to watch and easy to understand.
That actually made it very entertaining the way you filmed it, had humor, effects, and kept me entertained and i learned something too :)

Great tutorial! Can't wait to try it but I have a question going back to the photo-taking piece of it. How did you prefocus yourself when you are not sitting on the couch? That's always been my problem : (
@Massygo the video version is done using adobe after effects or premiere. ( I believe)
The are the best photographer in the world!!!!!!
How did you focus on yourself (selves)?
Using the auto select focus points and hope the camera finds you or just focus on the sofa and put the lens in Manual?

This is simply the best tutorial on youtube!
how did you get yourself in focus?
Great video Gavin. The internet lacks only two things, 15 minute photo challenges and good clear lighting videos. Do you think you'll do more lighting stuff like you briefly touched on here?

my silly question is this : when i copy paste another picture into my main picture, it appears very small..how i will make it work the way i want? (appearing in same size as the original)

Hi, great come sempre.
I have a Nikon D90. When i shoot in autoclick my manual say to cover the viewfinder: it's mandatory or not.
Thank you
Stefano
Excelllent tutorial and easy to understand! I did a similar photoshoot with these instructions and posted it here :)
Come al solito ottimo lavoro Gavin.
Works perfect overhere too.
But...how to create this video version?
Its quite simple acctually... can be done using green screens or even simple splits and good masking
question, I'm doing this with many pictures (up to ten). If I forget something on the first picture, is there a way to make a hole in the first of the ten? My problem is that I keep forgetting a shoe or a hat from time to time.
You are such a good photographer and a tutor... :) thanks..
Fantastic!! Thank you so very much for all your tuts!
I have the beta cap, but most of my images seem to turn out black when using it for some reason.
love this tutorial..easiest one i;ve seen here.. thanks for sharing,
I LIKE WATCHIN YOUR VIDS, VERY INFORMATIVE...
QUESTION FOR U , WHAT ARE THE CAMERA LENSES I SHOULD HAVE FOR STARTING OUT. I WANNA TAKE A PHOTO CLASS. JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE EQUIPMENT I SHOULD HAVE JUST STARTING OUT ??
THANKYOU
would it be pretty much the same process in GIMP?
Hey gavin just want to ask a question. I had Canon 60D and I am wondering why most of photographer like nikon than canon what is the advantage of this to canon? I know you had 5D markII and can you suggest a good super wide angle glass? Thanks
This is a great help. Thank you Mr. Hoey!
Hi Mate
Loving ur vids......can this be done outside, lets say on a park bench but without flashes
I'd like to know how you made the video
What background/backdrop are you using? Muslin or seamless?
Hi Gavin i am more interested on how you edit the video..
You forgot the shadow of yourself under the seating in the last layer ;]
Great simple tutorial though, loving all your videos.
can you say me how you make that video
Do you know of a video tutorial that can show us how to do it?
Hello sir, i just started photography. is it possible for me to do the same thing using aparture 3 ??
Very cool I must say ... Thank you for the lesson ... Much appreciated
How we do this in 2021. Do we have better technique?

what about being on a tight budget, and not being able to have a pair of flash guns and umbrella? what should i do?
what kind of lens is that?
Very nice.. Have to do something like this for myself..
Simply done! Wonderful!
@PhotoGavin Yah I guess it is the way you are leaning that makes it look strange when thought about, but really you don't notice anything wrong in the final product because really there isn't anything wrong.
What's the tripod you're using ?

Nice as allways BUT how did you get rid of the lens cap as seen in your video part? haha
Great video Gavin!
what F-stop are you using for this?
You're almost a magician. Thanks.
Thank you Gavin! After a few strokes with the paint brush, I was able to accomplish this interesting task. I utilized natural light with backdrop of main living room, so the magic wand was a bit tedious but well worth the energy. Mahalo!
Gavin, Thanks man!!! really cool video.
Mr. Gavin, how do you do the video part? thank you
That is pretty cool,I will try that out.
Great vid.
Really very Simple, Awesome man!!
witch Photoshop program are you using?
@marfianik:

Thanks. Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.
Thanks for posting this kind of lessons. Lots of lol.
@gajetjoe definately not super fast focusing, okay quality, a lot of distortion. if you want to only use one lens thats its only use.
I did a few of these a couple of days ago. Just one flash bounced off the ceiling was enough :)
Gavin, Terrible Video ? This is great, fast, simple, swift, and god tutorial. Thank you !!!!
You missed the shadow from the one behind the couch.
Gavin, this is a great tutorial!
I'm going to try this with my photo group on one of the next studio shoots.
Let's see what happens there... :o)
