  • Josh has struggled with addiction for 20 years. He opens up his drug use, as well as life on the streets of Baltimore, MD. He doesn't have much family or much of a support system. He's currently living in an abandoned house, and struggles every day with life. He's always on a constant chase to find the next high. He wants to turn his life around and become an addictions counselor so he can use his story as a motivation for others with the same struggles.

Chris, you can do this! You can become that addictions counselor. Chase those dreams instead of the high. I won't say it's easy, but it is so worth it. I'm 7 years clean, got my degree in social work, and I work at a shelter for the unhoused population. I'm not bragging, just sharing that it can be done. You gotta be sick and tired of being sick and tired. It sounded like you believe in God, cry out to Him. He can help you. You got this bro! Don't let anyone tell you different. The best way of getting revenge to those who put you down is succeeding.

To anyone reading this who is suffering from addiction. You can get clean, Don’t give up, it’s a fight. It’s better to fight and win than to fight and lose. You don’t want to die like that you wanna live a good, faithful life and die old surrounded by family with something to leave behind. Cry out to Jesus!

An addict turning counselor is one of the worst things for most addicts. They have to be sober for two years and it’s not long enough to handle the struggles and emotions of other peoples problems.

Me, too. Later this month I'll be sober for 20 years. Clean for 11. I don't think about drinking anymore. But Xanax has entered my soul. If I could have one more bar, just one, then it would be ok... Best of luck to you.

@stanleycostello9610 I know exactly what you're saying. Benzos have entered my soul like that too. Valium, Clonazepam, Ativan, Tamazepam felt perfect because I've always suffered with anxiety. I've gotten off opiates too and even off methadone and have no desire to go back but the benzos will always be on my mind. Good luck to you brother.

I’ve been sober for many years and I can say it’s incredibly hard thing to overcome, it takes an incredible amount of strength and self-love, and I’m still struggling after many years of sobriety on top of everything else just trying to live and the cost of living is daunting and overwhelming. It’s also overwhelming. It’s no wonder so many people are addicted to drugs, and alcohol because life is so unenjoyable for most of us.

This is very motivational. Recovering addict here and tappering off of methadone. I'm from bmore, I know what he's talking about. Fortunately I'm on the road to recovery and my only regret and kind of split emotions is I wish I never got on methadone. Gift and a curse is all I can say. Much love to all who is going through the struggle. Remember how strong you were before all this bullshit, it's still there you just gotta push harder for it!

15 years on Lortabs and I finally got clean at 66 years old. 73 now. Cold turkey and, with the help of Ryan Donnelly on youtube, I powered through the pain of acute withdrawals and the depression of PAWS. About 1 month to feeling a semblance of normal. About 6 months for a complete recovery. The gauntlet of pain during withdrawal is a rite of passage I don’t care to repeat.

People aren’t addicts because they like drugs, it’s because they need a hug. You have to heal & love yourself, it’s only so much others can do to help. Don’t let your traumas keep you trapped.

You say people do them because they are bored? But drugs aren’t entertaining. They literally give your body and brain a rush of dopamine. That’s why they do it, for the feeling. Those feelings of love. To quit drugs you have to love yourself. To love life, you have to love boredom as well. Without love, addicts have no hope.

Chris!! I was your age when I got clean and I've got 10 years down now, and I promise you the doctors can help you and they can do it without you even having to get sick. I only went through a few hours of it after i checked into a detox hospital before the doc finally came in and started my meds. The medicine works, and you can still have an amazing life that you love and live it normally... you just have to stick with the plan and not put yourself in certain situations or around certain people, but the medicine can make it pretty much painless to change your life. It has worked for me and I know a whole bunch of people who can say the same. It works. it is necessary for some people to take meds for all types of different reasons. My medicine fills the receptors in my brain and so I don't have cravings and have never relapsed. It is absolutely possible for you to get well and stay that way. God is, has been, and will be there there with you every step too, so lean on him and trust that there's a wonderful future for you ♡
