I had this same issue from not driving my truck that much for awhile. Running a hose down the filler tube freed up that check valve or door. Filled up just fine after that. Thank you so much!
Success! I replaced my evap purge solenoid but still had super slow fill (but no decompression hiss from removing gas cap thereafter). Watched your video, rammed a scrap chunk of rigid ½" garden drip line like you showed here (instead of air hose, no angle cut needed). And bam, now I can set the slowest latch on the fuel nozzle from a single poke! Surely repeating this "a bunch of times" will get it "lightning fast" like yours; keeping that scrap hose with the truck's kit now. Thank you thank you! 1997 Ram 1500 SLT
I tried to use 3/8 & 1/2 rubber tubes but they failed.... THEN I thought of using my 1/4 diameter, 15' long, Auger.... WORKED GREAT! ran it about 8 feet (takes about 6 to enter the tank and negotiate the roll-over valve. Then I reversed the auger ( pipe snake ).... It came right out, smelled like gas and now the truck, 03 Epedition 5.4L, fills with gas normally. Thank you so very much for your idea ! Tom Jones, New Orleans, LA GOOOO SAINTS!
It's actually the "rollover valve", and they're always inside the top of the tank, and the tool you made is a great idea, works for 3rd and 4th generation also.
@@omaraguilar1317 I was able to take a piece of fuel line (the fairly stiff black rubber tubing), cut the end at a 45 degree angle and jamb it down the gas fill tube. It must have freed up the backflow valve because it's been fine since then.
Je viens d’essayer sur mon ram classic 2019. Ça a fonctionné. Merci merci merci merci.
There is a good possibility you pushed that roll valve /check valve out of its installed position into the tank. This check valve is a serviceable part and can be easily accessed / removed thru the fuel pump opening. It snaps in and out of place with little effort.
this is just happening to my 02 dodge ram 1500 v8 truck everytime i go fuel. just saw ur video and going to try this tommorow . what the length and diameter of the hose or anything similiar to use?
I gotta try this, putting in gas into my 99 dodge 1500 5.9, is So Slow, and I mean to put in 20$ feels like takes 20+ minutes, I actually stood there for 8 minutes though, but way to long for 5 gallons of gas
Ive got a 04 dodge 1500 5.9. It runs good, but every once in awhile it seems like its out of gas n dies. Then I start it up n rev it a bit and its fine. But it will do it again in a day or so
I have this problem now on my 2001 Dodge ram 1500. It takes a half hour to put 7 gallons of gas in and if it goes too fast it burps right back out. I have been putting gas in gas cans and filling up at home because it takes waayy too long and it's embarrassing. I have the 5.9l 360
@@royreyes1854 I should clarify - the flapper thing that gets stuck is right at the top of the fuel tank, so it’s not really that the hose goes clear to the bottom of the tank, more that it goes past the flapper thing at the top. Slash cut the hose and twist as you stick it in, you’ll know when you’re through. 👍
I am having this problem now in 2024 on my 2004 Ram 1500 5.7. I suspected the vent being plugged, but cannot be that because the truck runs great and there are not CEL codes popping up for evap system. So it must be the fill port float/flap getting stuck. Will try this poke it in the hole method today.

thank you sir this fixed my problem as well and saved me a bit of money.

I took a hammer and beat on the bottom of the tank where the filler hose goes in, and it freed the check valve, No problems after that!
Having this exact problem with our 2014 Ram Hemi. Thanks for the tip, hopefully it will work on ours!
Dod this fix your problem?

I'm trying this today! I dread having to gas up because of this issue.
I had the same exact issue. Thank you sooooooooooooo much for your tip!
So glad it helped!
What a great tip. Worked perfectly. Thanks

Trying this on my ranger 👀
Thanks. Just bought the thing and couldn’t put fuel in it

I’m having that problem right now
Does the hose go completely into the tank for this to work?
Yes, all the way
@@eighthacremaker7129 thank you!

You're welcome. It was driving me crazy, amazing when the fixes are simple!
