What gets me is how some 'advisories' are actually quite concerning and I'm not just talking about worn tyres. I'm currently looking for a used car and one which came up had "surface rust" listed as an advisory on the last non-dealer MoT. If underside rust is so bad as to be picked up on then I'm going to give that a wide berth *even if* the dealer claims it's been welded.

Think of it of more like we're 'advising' you to get this fixed sooner rather than later. It's not of immediate danger, but it does need keeping an eye on. As you've said, the MOT record becomes super handy when you're looking for a new car.

Thanks for explaining. If centre stop lamp is not working, but left and right ones are working, is this an mot failure?

So you are saying that police could stop purely on the basis of an advisory , don’t think that would be lawful

Legally, they can stop anyone at anytime without any reason and purely on suspicion. If they run your reg and see multiple advisories that weren't rectified, then you're giving them a reason to check
