Of course Gregor this is only a convenience if you either have a reference legend that tells you what bank/patch corresponds to what sound or you already know it in your head from experience. But thanks for the tip, I'm going to use it. We are very lucky to have you and Joe.
All my hardware synths set up this way have Program and Bank changes grayed out and unusable. I'll stick to using two tracks (even though I can't change banks or presets easily that way, either). Time to look at sound variations approach....
Hi Gregor and Presonus Team, We need an update video on explaining how to do the loop back and setting the offset for Midi latency, the previous video is a bit confusing for folks, especially setting up the outputs and inputs to assign for the Midi controller to play the sine wave sound to go along the midi notes. Thank You for reading my request. 😎
Thank you Gregor. I have a couple of questions: In your first example, using the Inspector to insert the 30-50-30 Program change, you did not mention the bank parameters MSB and LSB. Is it important to enter all three in time order? Does Studio One do this automatically when using the Inspector to change Bank and Program? I've been troubleshooting using my Korg i5M as the external instrument. At one stage I had a situation where I had a single MIDI track song where all three methods were in action concurrently. I wonder if there is a hierarchy between track inspector, part and track automation methods? Does using one method override others?
It kept going with the change because the loop was activated for the section. Otherwise, the point must be added for the corresponding bar based on the duration.
hello Gregor. I am always grateful to you for your magnificent tutorials. THANK YOU. (genius).. Please, I have been begging Presonus now for several years to include a preset listing dropdown menu somewhere in the system for external Midi synthesizers. this option is available and "shareable" in logic, an editable "file" of names lists would work beautifully. But this does not appear as an addition to StudioOne. Those of us who grew out of the old Midi systems (40 years) have banks of multi-timbral synths with banks of 256 presets in each of them - all listed on pieces of paper. StudioOne NEEDS to offer this option so that the resurrection of the huge orchestration of external synthesizers becomes more easily available. DAWs such as S1 would not be where they are today if it had not been for the pioneering work which was done by many techs and musicians in the field of Midi, We all know this, but the inclusion of VST etc, has pushed the external Midi to the background. when this occurs obsolescence quickly follows. Please give my synthesizers a reason to live. (thank you).
Would love a tutorial on how to setup S1 with a DT whammy into the Helix Rack midi out to automate the DT whammy Expression pedal and program change without presets changing within helix.
I had to reinstall my external keyboard (yamaha mox6). When I open a song, it I get the missing devices error messages eventhough I reinstalled the same instrument. All of of my bank/program changes are now missing from the songs. Do you know if S1 saves those parameters somewhere because I don't remember which patches were used?
it can be seen from the on-going dialogue which follows my previous comment that there are a great many people who would also like this function to be included in S1. Please help us Gregor. We are appreciative, but we are also dragging our feet because of the need for an upgrade of this nature.
Great, but what about the names of the presets not just the program changes numbers? I have to memorize or go to the synth anyway in order to verify that I'm playing the prest that I want or need...
Thanks for your kind words! You can do some from the Track Inspector on the left (click on the "i" symbol in the Track List, or press F4 key to open). You'll find the "Transpose" field in the top column of the Track Inspector. -GBY
@@presonus Thanks as always for the prompt response. Unfortunately I’ve tried your procedure but it only transposes already recorded midi events. My question was with respect to getting the transposition lock in so I record with it. Thanks
Hi, this should transpose both live input as well as events on the Track. If you require Transposition for the live input only, you can use NoteFX for that. -GBY
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I followed the steps, exported it as MIDI and the program changes weren't showing up in a different studio one session.
thanks BUT....i have a digital piano, no extra knobs or control buttons. I want to assign unused keys at the top and bottom of the range like they were buttons. How to do that in Studio one?
What's the point of adding sysex functionality to a DAW? Do you want to dump your hardware synthesizers data in the middle of a song or load a new sound bank in the middle of a song? Why use a "big" DAW software to do things tiny freeware apps can do?

@@presonus You know a video demonstrating of this would be better, especially for people who invested in... Sphere but hey maybe I'm asking for to much. 6-15-23
SO weird.... For me it only sends the program change when starting or stopping a song... It does not do it while playback is happening like you showed it... So frustrating

This is the worst possible implementation of this functionality. Why would you not be able to link control change messages to your timeline. What if you need to change patches mid song? This is a HUGE downfall I've now found in studio one. Cant send control messages to my guitar fx, lights, synths. Please fix this....

Amazing. Please add an Ssl style eq into the fat channel and a tape machine inside the mix engine just as the tascam one from retro mix legends.
Can we get S1 to always record volum and pan automation on every recording? Sometimes that would be great.

Much easier with Sound Variations :)
What is Sound Variations?
Care to make a video with this information @lukas Ruschitzka ? 6-15-23

I assume we can do something similar for virtual instruments??
Yes, with Studio One Sound Variations.
@@studioonetutorials I know we can change articulations but can we change the vst to use a different preset?.
@@ivanrojasreischel No, you should never do this during the song. Better duplicate the VSTi and have both presets in your song.

I thought program change did not export with midi files. Has this changed?
does this also work if the preset is in a different bank? I didn't see the option to change the bank msb/lsb.
yes, it does! You can select Bank Change from the same parameter list as Program Change. Hope this helps. -GBY

Unfortunately, Studio One still doesn't have a decent SysEx editor or, more importantly, a list editor.
@@bassc Yep, true, but that 30 year old midi sequencer also misses all kinds of cool stuff S1 has. There's no perfect DAW unfortunately.
Could use dexed for that I think
