Why TUBELESS Might Not Be For You.. (2024 Best Dirt Bike Tire Inflation Methods)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 июл 2024
- Back in the day a standard tube was the only option for dirt bike riders to inflate their tires. They are cheap, readily available, and generally last a pretty long time.
The downfall of tubes as when they do fail, it is a long process to repair and can end a riding day instantly. Patching or replacing a tube trail side is a tedious process that isn't realistic for a lot of riders, and in a race setting you might as well throw in the towel.
Fast forward to present and we now have a few different ways to keep our tires on the rim, one of which doesn't even require air! Today we will be going through all of the different inflation options from standard inner tubes, to UHD tubes, Tubliss, Mousse Bibs, and ultimately my favorite option the Lucioli 7mm thick inner tube with built in rim locks.

I run tubeless rear and HD tubes from Tusk up front. No problem with either. I check all tires before every ride Moto and Mtn bike. No big deal. Takes like a minute or two.
I’ve ran Tubless since 2018, and multiple tires front and rear, running slime for Tubless tires, I haven’t even changed the inner bladder tube, I run 3psi doing hard stuff, 28psi on the hwy all balanced
Laughed so hard during that into. We have all been there. 😂
I was STRUGGLING haha. I was being lazy and trying to take the front wheel off without removing the rotor guard, live and learn haha.
Awesome seeing you doing so well after your TPF. I am on month post op and recovering well, found your channel through those stories lol. Great recovery and best of luck with everything else.
Nice set-up!
Tubliss in the back, mousse in the front... would run a mousse in the back but boy do they wear quickly!
You should be checking your pressure before every ride. It takes like 3 minutes lol
I’m glad you enjoy that and it’s convenient for you! Leaking down pressure every day is awesome, definitely a legitimate upside.
@@AdventureDaily fair point. I wasn’t really trying to defend tubliss(I’ve never used it) I was more so trying to say that something you should be doing already(in my opinion) shouldn’t be called a downside for a product review. Now I didn’t really consider that it may take a good bit longer to get the right psi with tubliss compared to a regular tube. Typically all I’m doing with a standard tube is giving 1 to 3 pumps on the bike pump or letting a little air out.
I also probably shouldn’t be defending a product I’ve never used. Sorry if I came across as rude.
@@AdventureDaily checking the tires is just as important as checking how much gas is in the bike in my eyes. If it takes less than 5 minutes and it can possibly prevent a problem, why not do it?
I just did a race yesterday! Total of 50miles! And after the race I was inspecting my new irc JX8 and I put a slice and hole straight thru the tire literally can peal it back and poke my lucioli! Honestly any other setup I woulda been screw! My lucioli is still holding air.
Thank you for sharing! That is wild.. It is definitely an investment but just like in your case it will pay off in the long run.
Great content thank you
Thanks Bobby!
For the every day, Ryder a heavy duty tube with a good tire I used Dunlop MX 34 is all we need
I’ve never really felt like the dead feeling of a mousse. I love them. I get a few tires out of a mousse, and gosh I can throw that bike at anything and not worry at alllll. Great video tho!
Cool video. Had never heard of Lucioli before. Sounds like a good option. I wonder when a manufacturer will create a mousse bib that can be run in big bikes like Africa Twins and the like at higher PSI and highway speeds 🤔
Buy IRC Heavy Duty tubes and never look back. I've had the same set on my 01 250f since I bought it in 2020. Survived the tire change too. Still have spares gathering dust.
Yes. I ran tubliss. Finicky . Switched to IRC hd tubes. Smash into rocks and roots. NO problem!
I'm running a heavy-duty tube in the rear with low pressure and it does fairly well in technical slow riding(keep in mind I'm a lighter rider) but when I started to ride further distances and had to go on asphalt roads, I had to increase the tire pressure to 2.3 bar (33psi in freedom units) because I'm afraid of de-beading the tire. The tire slips easier now because the 125 2t does not have that luggability, but I guess the trade-off is worth it to be able to ride at more places🤔
I run a little stans sealant with my tubliss setup and i dont have any of the issues you mention.
I have ran tubeless 2 ft and rear for years with some slime ,and have had zero issues with the set up. Going to try adding a worn out , cut rear plushie mousse at some point , but I get sooo much traction with the irc VE33s and JX8 rear tires ....but yes , even when running heavy duty tubes , I am one to check my pressures before every ride . In the past I have been and seen too many people caught out from not doing so . Can end an Enduro or dual sport ride real fast , or at least make for a bad day
Great video Tanner!!! I think at $336 for the set...front and rear tubes, I will pass on the Lucioli.
Thanks!! When you compare the price of Mousse and how long the Lucioli can last if properly maintained, for me it’s well worth the investment.
Crazy price. Pass on that
I’ve had some good times on Lucioli tubes but I’ve had a few punctures as well. Once punctured I’ve not been able to repair them. I also think the quality has gone down since 2019 when I first used them. Tube thickness seems to vary around the circumference of the tube between 4 - 7 mm. I’m back on bibs at the moment.
Thanks for sharing, you are honestly one of the first that I have heard from that has had issues, that is an expensive loss sorry to hear that.
Tubeless works great just get a portable battery compressor with a gauge Its easy to check before you ride don’t inflate high pressure side past 100 psi not 120. Running lower tire pressure makes any tire work better. Those curved tire irons are for mouses don’t use them on tubes or tubeless your asking for a problem imo spoons and the smaller levers work just fine it does take practice but changing tires is fairly quick with the tubeless just clean the bead on the rim good I use a damp rag and lots of armor all and only install New Tires. Oh and use slime too on the low pressure side after bead is set and everything holds air deflate low side and add slime. I have had great luck with this system and all I ride is the nastiest cactus imaginable and lots of rocks.
I bought a used bike with a mousse in it. Cut off the tire and switched to tubliss. Definitely better for my riding style.
Where did you get that seat
Tubliss on the rear with sealant with a plug kit in your pack is a solid system. My buddy went 2 years wo adding air to the inner bladder on tubliss The tire finally went flat at 35 psi. Filled it back to 110 & he was go to go. They are not near as finicky as you may think.
That's wild.. Awesome to hear though, for some reason our high pressure chambers leaked down into the 80's consistently. I am sure that is still enough to hold the tire on the bead but the low pressure was even worse. It is a solid system though if you can get it dialed.
Ran tubliss front and rear and never had an issue. New bike, oem tubes and 2 front flats. Going with mousse balls in front and 4mm rear. Will carry patch kit and spare rear as backup.
That's awesome to hear! We tried several times but just could not get it dialed in. Every time we would go to ride her tires would be near flat, brand new tire, clean wheel, pleanty of mounting compund, no pin holes we could find, it always seemed perfect until it wasn't.
@AdventureDaily they can be picky. I used Stan's tire sealant to seal the bead vs the soap and water.
I have ran tubeliss for a few years now and have found different tires work better with tubliss. I think you were running the tusk dual sport tires on Alexis's bike and also found them not to hold pressure with tubeliss. Also the Shinko cheaters don't work well with tubeliss. They hold air fine, but they have a really thick bead and are miserable to get back off once installed. Right now i am running some Kenda gummy's and have not adjusted the low pressure side since last fall. I do add pressure to the high pressure tube every 2 or 3 weeks. My Michilene dual sport tires also worked very well with tubeliss.
Thank you for the feedback! I definitely thought about that as all compounds / bead designs can be a bit different. That's a bummer though because everything else about Tubliss I really enjoy.
Mouses for the enduro.
Tubliss was a pain for me, previous owner install with alien slime... Switched to Lucioli front/rear, perfect for low pressure Enduro/trails then air up for 65+ mph road riding. using em in my 250 EXC-F if anyone is wondering. Can't feel any weight difference either. Can still pick up the bike no problem.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the Lucioli!! It’s definitely an investment but take care of them and they will last a LONG time.
I am thinking of going with mousse in the 300. I have run uhd tubes on the 450L for years with zero issues, though.
Tried and true UHD tubes are hard to beat for the price!
@AdventureDaily I'm definitely with you on preferring the feel of tubes. I run 12 in the back on a Michelin enduro and traction is unreal but some of the trails I ride are 20 miles from the nearest jeep trail so that is why I want the peace of mind of a mousse. If you ever come to Idaho, please let me show you our trails.
“The unsprung weight” - the lizzo 😂☠️
BIIIIIG Tubes😳
Only reason why I haven’t got a dual sport ..no grass…scared to get stranded with a flat ..in the middle of nowhere …desert oh heck no lol
Want to see the install and the tips!
Video will be live Thursday!
It has been fun following along with my 250f with Bruce suspension and your mods!
What r the new wheels ? I’ve been wanting black rims since I got the crf250f
I will have a video about them this Thursday!
@@AdventureDaily Rad!!
Nitro premium mousse for me, forever - 7k miles on my last set - where and how i ride i cannot allow a puncture or threat of one in my life
That's a lot of life! Awesome to hear.
Looks like the coupon expired. As much as I like the Lucioli's, they are a little rich for my blood. The Bridgestone's look like a good option though!
Code has been updated, it definitely is a LARGE investment but they are purpose made for riding the nastiest conditions. Definitely not for everyone, thanks for watching!
This looks about right trying to change tires like that.
Good times!
I have same injury you have did you now come to the normal please let me know
Far from normal but back to my regular activities just a bit more cautious now, range of motion is still🗑️
@@AdventureDaily thank you for asking how much your range of motion and ur quad muscle mass I lost all
Please send me your tubliss , i will pay the shipping! Im redoing my KTM and just about to buy tires , i love the tubliss !
Trick to Tubliss is Flat Out tire sealant!
I’d like to give it one more shot as we didn’t use sealant. Our high pressure would constantly leak down to the 80’s though which I’m assuming is normal?
@@AdventureDaily what tire pressure are you running? 80s ?
Lucioli is 7 millimeters thick(over 1/4 inch). Not 7 mil(which is 7 thousandths of an inch). IYKYK !
Yeah that's pretty obvious idk why I said that in the video I am well aware just thought it would be obvious to people that I made a mistake.
Those 7 mm tubes are cool but no way I'm spending $150 on a tube they are smoking crack
When you compare the price of Mousse and how long they last I disagree. But it’s definitely not for everyone.
Chinesium 😂😂😂😂
Moose Balls? 99% of the people that bitch about the weight need to go on a diet themselves. Don't take this the wrong way but it looks like you packed on a few pounds. Ride safe my 2 wheel friends.
Best comment 😂 100 percent correct America duck yeah
Trying to get to 300lbs before the famine comes. Big tubes for big boys, and gals🐄
Your are pretty much biased. Not a fair review. Bash session. Oh check the pressure every ride. What about your oil or gas tank every ride ? Dude sure glad we all get to choose what we get to check. 7 lbs front and back 14 more unsprung weight. Are any pros using these? Not!!!!
I can't check the pressure on the Tubliss but I have plenty of time to edit useless You Tube vids.
Might need to check that blood pressure pal
Over $350 for a front and rear tube? No thanks.
It's an investment for sure but if you maintain them they will last a LONG time..
would love to see a tour of the new toyhauler too please!!!!!!!
whats your take on carrying slime, valve tool and mini tire inflator. thats what ill do untill my tires wear out
That tube looks like a beast! I recently installed the Tubliss system and I like it so far. I did already put a hole in my front tire because of some of the jagged rock we ride in AZ, it may have partly been the tire also, I'm trying out some Goldentyre knockoffs so they may be a little thinner carcass. The adjustability of the system is nice and the feel of no tubes is really good. I also run a sealant so my 1/8 gash in the tire sealed up around 4psi so I rode another 15+ miles with it and you can run Tubliss flat if you have to. I may try out bibs in one of my other bikes to compare. It's nice to have all the options.
When Tubliss is working it is a beautiful thing! What tires were they?
@@AdventureDaily Artrax brand. I think the rears will wear too fast since they are a FIM knob but the front has good traction so far.
