This is Michael, Kelly Rogers fiancé! Thank you so much Mark and Jen for the birthday shoutout!!! She was so surprised!!! We watch all the GOTD episodes together!!! Love the 53!!! Thanks again!!!

Does she get all the free food she wants at Roy Roger's restaurants?
Do they even still have Roy Rogers restaurants??? Lol! None in the Midwest that I know of!

Mama Tried, dude, look at the shirt
I actually bought my first telecaster because of this video. I'm a metal guy and have ignored this style of guitar for 30 years. It is alot of fun because it sounds so unique. Onward and upward Mark.
Love the show. Especially when any Telecaster is featured. My favorite guitar hands down and would love to play a guitar with so much history.
1953? Holy shit that guitar is as old as me! It looks the same as it did 65 years ago. I look a little different. I might need some replacement parts.
That will lower your value...lol
Me too
Personally, I need a lot of new parts.
Little blue pill also ?
Ive got a cracked headstock so I may need some help too buddy
#TeleTuesday #1953Blackguard 🇺🇸
1)Cinnamon Girl/Uncle Neil
2)Mama Tried/Merle Haggard
3)Funk 49/James Gang
‘53 blackguard + Waylon tee, def doesn’t suck 🔥🔥🔥
Possibly my favourite guitar ever. Love those early teles I hope it sounds as good as most of them do.
For you youngsters the 2nd song is "Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard...😎🎸
How in the hell does a guitar get to be that old and stay in that kind of condition? It's beautiful.
Major RUclips malfunctioning going on. Just amazing the condition of some of these older guitars. Awesome!
Must of watched this video 100+ times or more and still get goosebumps hearing mama tried.....feel pretty good to know what it even is at 28!
Ooh, nice guitar (and nice set too!). I'm still waiting, or should I say, anticipating for the day that Mark does a B-Bender.
Geoffrey Gentry AAWWWW MAN!!!!!!!Yeah that would be an awesome day for me too fellow JEFF.....GEOFF
I can dig it.
Me too Mr.stranger. me too.
Congrats on the Gibson hire! Your knowledge of vintage guitars and what their unique attributes might mean to a guitar player is just what Gibson needs.
BTW, the "solder drop" on early Tele bridge covers usually just appears as a shadow of a spot, as it was
the spot where the platers soldered a wire to the part to hang it in the tank for chrome plating. It was supposed to be removed when the wire was unsoldered, but they got sloppy once in a while. Sometimes the ones with actual solder still on are forgeries, but you can tell an old one because they were stamped out of heavier gauge metal. It's kind of like the circle overspray on the back of the black guards, sometimes its there, but more commonly not.
The definitive Guitar of all times. If you don't understand telly, she's gonna do for you.
Thanks for that awesome demonstration you got some groovy skills man you rock n roll.
Mark brings on tha Funk! Love it!
My oldie is also a ‘53. It’s seen way more play than this one but is still in solid shape. Bridge pickup shorted out and was rewound in the ‘60s. Original tone cap dried out and was replaced in the ‘70s. Neck (a soft V, unusual for a ‘53) was oversprayed with satin lacquer…feels great & plays fast. Weighs just under 7 lbs. Bought it 32 years ago for a little less than they go for now. :)
David Kieltyka CAN I BUY
Nope. It’s in my will. 🤓
@@davidkieltyka9 Can you adopt me? :p
Teles rule!
😂
6 to midnight and not even a giggle from Jen, lol! Beautiful blackguard tele.
big fan of the show''' what a beauty this guitar is''
I NEVER thought I'd own a Pre CBS Fender guitar but I found a 1963 Duo Sonic in a hock shop and it was a good price and a factory custom color to boot.
How did Leo get it so perfect right from the off. It reallyis amazing.
15th October 1953 - my birthday. An old man now but still a fool for a geetar
My favorite guitar in the whole world! Thanks Mark!
Mr. Agnesi it’s appropriate that you are wearing a Waylon Jennings shirt while demoing this guitar. 53 Teles were Waylon’s favorite. In fact most of his Teles (the ones with the leather tooling) were 53’s. His leather tooled blackguard was a Broadcaster (this is the one seen on the Dukes of Hazard). However he was mostly seen with one of his 53’s that had white guards and later EMG pickups.
EMG on a '53 Telecaster ??!!
Sacrilege !! Incredible Stupidity. !
Well it was the 80’s...
@@johnreidroberts2838. Ok. got it. That wasn't my smartest decade too. 😉
Waylon rules !!! (and so do Tele's)
Back when I went to church reg'lar like, and sang in the High School choir, our geetar player came in with a Blackguard Tele...I KNEW it was special, and asked about it. He showed me how the rhythm pickup had that capacitor on it for the Country and Western players...Just like in Reggae, the guitarist may play a "shadow" line along with the bass...the things one remembers... I dont even want to know what this guitar will go for....I think it was only a few hundred that landed that Blackguard in the '70's
This might be my favorite of all times, that bridge pickup is fire
"Jazz" cigarettes now legally available in Canada.
yaay! haha we win baby!
Louis Armstrong called it "muggles," and he claimed to have never played without a little muggles first.
Douglas: the LeDain Commission recommended legalizing or decriminalizing cannabis in 1972; we've been waiting since then, but it didn't stop us toking; It's about time.
But don't bring any back across the US border.
God bless Canada.
Awwww, I was hoping for a tweed amp to get the whole 50's experience...
I could not love this guitar any more....just amazing. Its like if Apple came out with an Iphone XSMax as one of the first electronic things they ever made....its that far ahead of its time. Just can't imagine something released today in any product line that is so revolutionary. (as a Waylon fan....I have to say - Nicccccce shirt amigo!)
Hey there, Mark and Jen, I've been watching for over a year. Thanks for being yourselves. Tomorrow (October 17th) is my birthday, would be awesome to see a Jazz Master.
Amazing. I have a 1974 Tele
So generous of you to give this away.
I love the ashtray bridge ... especially on an esquire!
I have a flat pole piece pickup on my Fender.
Although they are Vintage Modified pickups so they may be designed to be like a heritage guitar.
GORGEOUS TELECASTER
Favorite demo so far.
Mark's rock culture is insane ! Great stuff !
That’s gotta be one of the best sounding electric guitars ever on GOTD.
Gorgeous soulful telly
Oh yes indeedy!!
Yes, Mark. That guitar fits you nicely!
Considering what you're selling and how you go about it you are maybe the greatest salesman of all time Mr Agnes
Now that is a Tele that I can get behind!
Dream guitar. Well done Mark
I love that overdrive sound!
Just had a Phil X flashback with that third song! Beautiful guitar.
He wasn't lying that was the best of the good stuff
Perfect song selections and great playing.
Geeezz Mark if I was listening without watching I would think that was Joe. YOU ROCK DUDE!
Yeah, love those yellow tellies.
Wow!
When you get to 1 million subscribers, Norman HAS to give you a Telecaster as a reward!! Like so Norman can see!
ooh la la , 53' blackgaurd tele , so cool , such great tone and reverb , it is truly a magical piece , that flat pole just has such sparkle , it jumps out at you and grabs you by the throat , spectacular , if only I had stupid money. great set Mark , great stash Norm.
OMG that sounds FANTASTIC!!! Awesome
If I had the money that guitar would be mine. Thanks for that one Mark! Thanks Jen! Byeeeeeee!
Michael Merritt that makes no sense
This is it. This is my 'stuck on an island' guitar.
Telecaster 50's love it..😍
Sounds great 👍
Probably my favourite Guitar of the Day ever 😍😍😍
What a wicked guitar that tone, how can you work in a shop like Norms, you would be like a kid in candy shop, my g/f said if you won the lottery what you do, I said easy getting a first class plane ticket to LA, and then head to Norms and go shopping, she just looked at me, love Tele Tuesdays !!!
Glad I can finally watch this
Thanks for playing Neil. Made a freakin’ day!
Great sound I had front row seat for
James Gang concert . They were wasted , put on a great show.
Joe Pow
Just beautiful: yep, they've fiddled and tinkered, but they got the Telecaster so, so right. and played like that, why would you want anything else?
Middle position is the neck pickup without dark circuit, not both pickups, but you know that Mark. No neck and bridge setting unless you jam the switch. Best mod you could do would be to disable the dark circuit but it would devalue the guitar too much.
Top of the crop. The Blackguard Tele!
So glad to finally have gotten to this channel. Love these videos. Keep them coming!
Nice! The first electric guitar I ever played was a '53 blackguard (I was 14 at the time), and I have loved Teles ever since. Never been able to afford a real '53, so have to be content with my custom shop (which is awesome). Mark is right...Leo got it bang on, first go! Great stuff.
Great!
Is there a Spotify of Marc's set list? Would be an awesome playlist.
DROOOOOOOOLLLLL ! That thing is so beautiful !!!
That '53 is the cleanest one that's not in a collection.
Wow!
Look at how long those fingers are. Where do I go to get a set of those?
Miss Mark on guitar of the day! Not only did he play stuff that fit the history of the guitars, he had a lot of knowledge about them as well. Michael is a great talent, but I just don't enjoy the videos like I did with Mark.
what happened w him?
@@GatoConBotas67 Gibson hired him away to be their Director of Brand Experience, I think that means he talks the brand up LOL
Love those ‘50’s teles #eargasm #guitarporn
5:37 "Dark circuit is a cap, the kind of... (cover his mouth and continues to speak)" LOL.
65 years old. Wow!
I love a great goldtop any day but man the Tele's sound amazing!
Pretty sure that the middle position is neck pickup only.
Geoff mania You are correct
I also thought originals where wired that way
Of course.
Perfect shirt for that guitar... Awesome
There’s two sounds I could listen to all day, every day, forever and that’s a PAF or a Broadcaster pickup through fender amp.
Yeah, Jen. Those little holes in the side of your phone are a great place to put your finger.
-Unless you want sound to get in there!
You earned that like with Merle!!! Beautiful guitar!
Like the Waylon t shirt as much as the blackguard.
75K? Yes, I have to ask... Fun video, thanks!
Bad ass! Great video!!
Talk about a hype-master this Mark is. You are certainly a gem of a find for any pawn shop owner.
I certainly hope the big guy is giving you a big commission on everything you sell. If he has you on salary, you should give him the ultimatum ASAP. No kidding.
Leo is wondering what all the hype is all about. The only thing magical about that Tele is that its old.
Yes, it certainly CAN be improved and has been. Its just that you cannot hype that.
Man, you nailed that JW!! Effen awesome tele! Well done 👍🏼Those nails 😜nice!!
Love Merle Haggard.
Good playing!
Welcome back, to Guitar of The Day, at Mormon's Rare Guitars.
Fuck yea he played a Neil Young song one of my favorite artists of all time!
Funk #49!
TENDRÍAN QUE EMPEZAR A PONERLES SUBTITULOS EN ESPAÑOL A LOS "GUITAR OF THE DAY" MUCHÍSIMA GENTE ESTARÍA AGRADECIDA DE QUE LO HAGAN PORFAVOR 👏👏👏👏
This may be one of the most perfect things in this reality ..
A little correction regarding the middle position on that Tele Mark. The middle position is actually just the neck pickup on it's own. You have to change to the later wiring to have both pickups on. The switching system on the early models were: Dark circuit, Neck Pickup alone and Bridge pickup alone. And wow what a guitar!!
Darren Vincent You can also balance between positions 1 and 2 for the dual pickup sound!
