I've been using my thumb as a pick and I'm only just starting to get used to using one, so any tips on that would be greatly received, but aside from that I'm trying my best and enjoying learning something.
Get confident with your chord shapes would be the first thing. Using a pick would be helpful for later technique but chord shapes and changing between them is a good start (depending on what you would like to play.
I am going to make some corrections based on the multitrack of the original song, at minute 3:17 it is Gsus4, G, Gsus4, G. And in the chorus there are no variations between C and Csus4, that is, it is only C, A, F, Dm, F, G, and when it ends there if he does those variations again.
