Chapter 51: News Comes to Cairhien
Points of view: Mat, Rand
Setting: Near Cairhien
Characters: Rand, Mat, Moiraine, Melindhra
Rands Aiel guard announces Mat has arrived to see him. He asks Moiraine, Egwene, and Aviendha to stay, it might unbalance Mat enough to get him to do what Rand wants of him. Moiraine asks Mat about his military activities over the past few days. Mat has been involved in a number of battles with the Andorans who have moved into the west of Cairhien. He and his Band of the Red Hand emerged victorious. She wonders if Mat finds battles or if the battles find Mat though. Mat feels attacked by this but the conversation turns in another direction.
Mat returns to his chambers after his stormy meeting with Rand. He is still playing with the thought of leaving the Band behind and making a run for it. Melindhra enters his room while he is gathering his things. He tells her he is going away for Rand for a while. Melindhra seems to think he still isn't free of Rand's shadow. Mat lets it slip Rand is going to Caemlyn, something he was not supposed to do. While he tries to cover up his mistake Melindhra attacks him. Mat draws one of his knives and kills Melindhra. Before she dies she says he has the Great Lord's own luck. He's never killed a woman before. It upsets him a great deal. In her hand, he finds a dagger with the nine bees of Illian on them. Illian, where Sammael rules. There can be no doubt, she was a Darkfriend. The Forsaken have definitely noticed him. Mat feels the dice spinning in his head.

@@dreamshakejunya Truth. The show has made some odd choices but that was one I really liked. Something to latch on to with Mat early on. He eventually became one of my faves, possibly favorite, but he spent the first 3 books being stupidly immature or sickly and paranoid lol.
The origins of the Red Hand is great! The battle of Emond's Field and Nynaeve's "Will he ride alone?" are some other great moments I'd like to see (or hear).
Thanks, I'm thinking of the battle of edmond's field as my next project, considering they didn't do perrin any favors with his character in the tv series, and I really think that this is when he come's into his own leading up to this battle, both added to future content 🙏

they 100% will. they have said they are making sure to incorporate music into the show just likeit was in the books. it's a way of helping tell the story in that medium. it will be even more OP when we can actually hear it playing in matt's head as he's walking around all grubly about it. i can't wait for all the stuff where mat knows it's from the past or speaks in the old tongue etc, how they are going to handle what we read as an inner dialogue will be very critical to the success of the characcter and therefore show.

Loved the video, Mat is my favorite character and he really shines here. I would love it if you could do a video on the battle of Caemlyn in the last book. Talmanes fighting the fades is one of my favorite parts in the series. Keep up the good work!

Great job presenting Lord Mat's real family's (that is the Band of Red Hand ) origin Wheel Of Time Audio Clips . Absolutely enjoyed it. If it is'nt too much to ask ...include this and create a full just Mat story arc ??? 😁😁😁 Mat Cauthon is one of the truly fleshed out and well developed fantasy character of all time . I know , he takes flight only by the third book . And many including Brandon Sanderson has said that once Brandon took over , he struggled with Mat's development . But i believe that Mat is truly where the genius of RJ shines bright . The first two books served as the prefect build up to the Son of Battles .And RJ's notes served as an unconscious Ta'veren tug in Brandon to prefect Mat . For example many complain about the Chapters like Legends (The Gathering Storm) doesn't fit Mat's charecter. But I beg to differ ...if you remember the meeting between Mat and Morgase (who is under Gaebril's compulsion then), Mat creates a small legend for himself and presents himself as Thom Grinwell . And i believe... by the time he is in The Gathering Storm Mat has developed on that skill 🙂🙂🙂 . Like i said ...RJ's Ta'veren tug on Branden Sanderson
Thanks for your great comment🙏 I'm most definitely doing more mat videos and I had the same idea to create a full story arc like what you mentioned floating around in my head, and I will, but there's a character who I feel got a raw deal on the tv show, and I really want to bring his character out to remind us of what made him great in his own right, by creating a series of one of his earlier big moments... Return to the Two Rivers 😉😉
