    Yet another great review, thanks. I've seen other positive reviews of this radio, so I eventually decided to get one. Just gave it its first try today on high grounds bordering Paris. Well, that's quite a disappointment so far. My Sihuadon R-108 picked up easily approach/departure ATC from both CDG and ORY (Orly). The TR-110 picked up... nothing. Almost. Only very faint unreadable signal on one frequency.
    This place is special because it's surrounded by antennas: FM and others. So the airwaves are quite saturated and some radios struggle with this e.g. my Xhdata D-219 is almost deaf there.
    SW was so-so, again the R-108 faired much better. I compared the antennas and the TR-110's actually is longer.
    I'll give the TR-110 another chance next week with an evening radio listening session in a quiet place 30km away from Paris and under approach/departure air corridors. See if it behaves much better in a quiet environment. If not, I shall return it. It isn't cheap, so I expect far more than what I had today.

    • @F4LDT-Alain
      @F4LDT-Alain Год назад +3

      Replying to myself: after a second attempt at my favourite air band / DX SW listening location far away from the city, I've returned this thingy. Even compared to my TR-105 (aka HRD-737) that is equally small and has a shorter antenna, air band reception was much poorer, if at all.
      SW reception was mediocre.
      No way I'd pay almost 90 euros for this. I might have got a defective unit. I just didn't want to know. Returned.

    Hey Todd, 570 is one of my favorite stations in DFW, home of 820 WBAP that you have demonstrated in your night time AM scans. 570 for some reason comes in at a lower volume during the day when they are at full power and during the night when they are at reduced power. All of my other radios don't have this problem and they cam get this station whether it is during the day or during the night. I was curious if this radio had a problem with the specific frequency of 570 kHz. I did a return with my first radio and I have had the same problem on the second one.

    I bought this radio after watching your review as just had to try it. Managed to work out all the features however not sure if there is an issue with mine as the whip antenna seems quite loose and when on SW I am hearing MW stations dropping in across the bands which obviously is not right. Not sure what is going on, if I hold the whip with my hand the signals dissappear.

    I picked up the HRD-747 about a year ago. While its sensitivity isn't bad on MW and SW (similar to the HRD-737) I was very disappointed with the FM reception on the WX band and other VHF/UHF bands. Has the narrow FM reception been improved with the TR110?

  • @dupo32
    @dupo32 Год назад

    Do you feel the TR110 does better with reception, at least for the air and VHF bands, than the TR105/HRD737? I have the TR105 and really want to love it, but I can't seem to get good reception on it most of the time. I saw someone on youtube had hacked a transistor into their TR105 to increase the gain and it improved a lot. I'd really be interested in this if it performs better, especially with the SSB included!

    I can never get anything shortwave here in Utah and I have several radios, newer and older tech. including my old Drake SW8. I can't even get much 80, 40 or 20 meter ham on SSB!! I never get any of the WWV time signals on 5, 10, or 15 Mhz and I mean never. But lots of folks on youtube videos are always getting a good bit of SWL broadcast stations. How???

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Год назад +1

      high ground? larger external antennas? Utah can be a tough place, but depending on Solar conditions, Dusk & Dawn are your friends for SW listening.

    These are great radios these days but they are not for beginners. I gave my ex-wife my Tecsun PL330 and she could not figure out how to do anything with it and gave it back to me. No matter how many times I tried to explain the operation to her. I mean, for example, most every day folks don't understand that 'MW' means the old AM band. They want to see 'AM' and these type of radios don't call AM broadcast AM... Very confusing to anyone but radio geeks.
