I’m a fifty-year-old Canadian who has lived in Japan for twelve years, and I was stuck with the 90s and 2000s stuff until I figured out about you guys in 2023. You made me dust off my guitars and loop station and fall in love with funk music. Now, I’m gathering with friends to play on small stages. Thank you so much. It’s funny that you make covers of famous artists and I’m making covers of you. lol. I watched the video of you guys playing in Frankfurt, and I agree with Ryan Lerman when he said, “We didn’t write these songs. We just made them better”, and it’s so true. You really make any song better than the originals. Regarding Abby Celso, I could stay in front of this girl, watching her singing for days. It’s incredible how she was enjoying herself while performing. And singing with that beautiful smile just made the whole thing look so easy. Maybe it was for her. Her confidence was peaking. She is a world-class star., Whenever you come to Japan, I will surely be there to watch you guys. Thank you very much.
I mean Abby obviously has a ridiculously sweet voice, but her performance is lifted by the fact that she looks like she’s having a great time singing it. I enjoy people enjoying themselves, it’s enjoyable!
This is the definitive version for me. Dropping the “fucking” in the first verse is the logical loss of the lone word that would have disturbed Abby Celso’s relaxed, soaring, confident mood of the song, expressing someone at ease with herself and the world around her, not needing a relationship to be whole, but rather accepting what may come only if it feels right, not afraid of moving on if it turns out not to be. I love the lyrics, and I don’t mind cursing where it makes sense but listening to the original, it changes the song immediately, feeling like it was aggressively rejecting something. This here is bliss, my favorite song of the entire funk-it series. Thank you!!!
insanely smoldering vocal--- Abby kills it every time, OMG!!!! the bassssssss --- hell everything --- soooo goood!!! Thank you for the awesome lockdown music!
I really love Abby. Her voice is so unique. My favorite 3 videos I listen to on here are this one and How deep is your love and Somewhere only we know. I wish she had tons more.
Super insightful comment. That's why I'm always so quick to click on Scary Pockets' new videos. This channel has the best, most musician-minded comment section on the planet
either the Mastering and Recording is that amazing or Abby improved a lot in the last 2 years. way more precise, fuller and and with perfect intonation. Her best YT performance by far. Also it feels like shes a bit more free, relaxed & happy.
love everything about this so much... Lemar's snare and easygoing groove, Tim's sparse and punchy lines, Ryan's super tasteful fills and blend, Jack's smooth call-and-response with Ryan, Abby's warm and creamy tone and melisma, Caleb's *crystal* clear mix with the groove in the middle and wide bg soundstage, the perfectly balanced arrangement that trails off with the beautiful dominant... heavenly!
I had this playing in the background, and when the vocals started, I literally worded "Who is THAT...!" And got up from my desk to come and see. Beautiful voice and musicality. Awesome.
Straight fuego. Sheesh. Abby's tone and control on the vocal: insane. Tim's note choice and phrasing on the bass : insane. Lemar's pocket and feel on the kit: insane. The beautiful marriage of parts between Ryan and Jack: insane. Production, engineering and mixing: insane. Caleb and Jeremy, y'all legends. I see you BOIS! Please keep the Scary Pockets fam tight, strong and together so you can keep blessing us with all this insanity
as we crawl into 2021, *this* is the performance of the year (2020) for me! Jack and Ryan, seriously, THANK YOU for putting this together... this is the pinnacle of music! It's the perfect blend of old and new... it's got that old vinyl sort of mix with the bass and drums in the middle with the two-part comps panned (not quite hard) left and right, Abby's beautiful overdriven vocals in the B? prechorus part right before the chorus modulates, Lefebvre channeling Jamerson 110%, but that super modern (piccolo?) super high tuned, snappy-ass snare razoring its way down the middle of the mix.... and yet it's as casual-sounding as some random jam that these cats spent 20 minutes on! unbelievable. fan for life
Big up Caleb Parker, my number 1 engineer inspiration! The SP sonics have come along miles since it first started, buttery smooth with a funky bite. Love the gear lists as well, knowledge is power!
@@yiklongtay6029 It’s mostly about the quality of capture, less bleed, better mics and they seem to have a lot more of a deliberate vision for the post production of each song, creating specific sounds (plus overdubs) depending on the track. They could only go so far with the lofi live room vibe.
@@yiklongtay6029 Well for a first, this isn't sound design... sound design is creating sounds from scratch for movies and video games mostly, literally all the sounds you hear in a movie or almost are created in post-production, and that is sound design. Sure there is arguably a little bit of sound design here but it really is production/recording/mixing. It sounds much more pro, refined, precise. That doesn't mean it sound objectively better, but hey, no one said objective differences are easy to spot.To be honest tho, Jack was always nothing short of stellar as a producer himself, so that's just icing on the cake here, the production was always on point!
Abby Has an incredible voice that song has such a great groove the musicians are fantastic tasty and smooth the drum part is a killer I love playing to it I must’ve listen to the song 100 times now just an awesome tune all around
Scarey Pockets have reached new heights with this one, way nicer than the original! So chilled yet I can stop groovin' in my chair as I listen while I work. Congrats all! 👏
She is So steady... LOVE THIS!!! Never tired of Scary Pockets collabs... amazing... can't wait to come to L.A. and see you ALL in person!!!! Don't go too far! ♥♥♥♥♥
those call and answer fills between Tim and Ryan on second verse (1:56) were so fun, almost drew me off the lyric. I understand the modulation. Needed every trick there and y'all did it perfect.
Congratulations to Scary Pockets and Abby Celso. Good Thing you made this beautiful cover. It's much better than the original. Absolutely love it. You guys rock!!!
The mind of this girl shines through… she is the most beautiful artist I saw in 2021! I cannot stop singing along when I hear her voice these days! Just celebrated Christmas alone and decided it would be a good thing for me and found this song just so right! Thank you! 😍🥰🙏🏻
Hot damn - pass me my thesaurus as I'm all out of superlatives.. This is a grower. Each time I listen to it it sucks me into the groove a little bit more. And that vocal + smile at 3h12... heaven.
So good! Abby is in fine form, and the band is right there with you. I think the un-sung hero might be Caleb Parker here -- that mix is nice! Seems like "more than the sum of it's parts."
therese great....rozzi great......danielle..great...abby got it too....love the up down funky jazzy tunes well done guys another great find welcome abby
Funny thing...the longer I watch, the more beautiful she becomes ! But really this whole thing is done to perfection. BIG shout out to the bass player!

beautiful words ✨

Bang on! I immediately know if the artist is enjoying it and if not the show is over.
There's a very Sade vibe to this that the world needs more of.
yeah, so chill
spot on observation - and the bass does much to bring that vibe
Damn. She has such a full, beautiful voice. 😍
Her voice is SOOOO smooth, and pleasing. And you guys are soOOO funkified. Slayed it.
Tim Lefebvre + 68' pbass = Animal tone.
We need more Abby Celso in this world
I'd never think of that snare sound for this, but it's carrying the whole arrangement in such a cool way
Felt too overtony for me from the start. But started coming around on that soon after, haha
Insane tone I love it
Unreal tone really!
I did not notice there was a snare until you mentionned it 😂 ans then yeah it’s a snare

I concur whole-heartedly!
At 67 I'm starting to learn to play guitar, and this is my favorite "play-along." Even when I suck, I just can't stop smiling!
Awesome! I am 69 and wanting to pick up a 6 string and learn to play
Presence! What a delivery. She owns it!
One of those songs I just keep on repeat over and over and never tire of it. Those vocals, the groove...keep it coming.
insanely smoldering vocal--- Abby kills it every time, OMG!!!! the bassssssss --- hell everything --- soooo goood!!! Thank you for the awesome lockdown music!

The less drum kit Lemar has, the funkier he gets!
Yep - he shows you don't need a large kit to be a really effective drummer.
Super insightful comment. That's why I'm always so quick to click on Scary Pockets' new videos. This channel has the best, most musician-minded comment section on the planet
I'd love to hear him play with a paint can and a toothbrush.
they say he clapped once and killed 10 people from the sheer grooveness
Bruce, He could do it. I heard kids in Africa pull off stuff like that. Cheers.
The tone of that bass though! (and of course the great groove from Tim Lefebvre!)
either the Mastering and Recording is that amazing or Abby improved a lot in the last 2 years. way more precise, fuller and and with perfect intonation. Her best YT performance by far. Also it feels like shes a bit more free, relaxed & happy.
The vocals on this are absurd. Every instrument and part of this really completes it

dang, thank you lawrence! top notch commenting right there 🙌
So smooth! The band, oh my goodness, her voice! Abby, you got a new fan here!
Got the headphones on and eyes closed. Feels just like I'm in a small jazz club listening to live music. 🥰🥰🥰
well - the same just without headphones! :D Thx God for my Monitor Setup and that nice little Monkey Banana 10 inch Sub ;)
Even better on these Audio Technica headphone, I feel like I was there
That SNARE sound,
god!!
Wholly smokes! This is fantastic!! Lefebvre is outta control! …and what a voice! Wow.
She's having the best time - sounds great. Pockets do that understated funk SO well....
Her voice just smoothed out the wrinkled soul of mine completely. Thanks, Scary Pockets!
I got this stuck in my head for days now, her voice just gives me summer vibes. I hope this summer brings good things.
Can’t stop listening !!!!!

Lovely arrangement...so good. Tim kills the bass. Love the key change at 3:28.
Thx!!
Yeah Abby!!! So cool that Scary Pockets gets a Rochester talent in there. This band is great and you fit right in. Cheers!
Big up Caleb Parker, my number 1 engineer inspiration! The SP sonics have come along miles since it first started, buttery smooth with a funky bite. Love the gear lists as well, knowledge is power!
How would one learn to appreciate the sound design? I can't detect any objective differences compared to how the sound was years ago

Abby is such a great singer!!!! Cannot believe this song
Really loved it. The switch at 3:24 was lovely.
I keep coming back to this cover, over and over. Great musicianship, all around. Also, Abby has such a nice voice.
Every bit of this performance is sublime.

Scarey Pockets have reached new heights with this one, way nicer than the original! So chilled yet I can stop groovin' in my chair as I listen while I work. Congrats all! 👏
I don't think there's a more beautiful girl or more beautiful voice at this moment.
Sweet and smooth. The singer is kicking it nicely.
Abby Celso ? IM ALL IN !!!!! get funky girl ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I keep listening, and each time, I am more impressed by how tight the bass is - and the Pockets never disappoint in that category!
Holy shit, Tim is so damn funky. He makes it look effortless too. I love his groove.
Such a full sound, well played sound engineer !
She's got a wonderful voice -- a jazz voice -- and the bassist is right in the groove.
Smooth, rich, buttery gold.

Hey guys you rock! Good song, superbe voice, incredible bass, all the band!!! I like your incredible work!
Wow, damn. I usually don't really care much for vocals as I prefer instrumental tunes, but her voice is SO good! You're awesome, Abby!
Far out this is goooooooood
Wow! What a performance and sound 🎉
Great voice, great energy, great performance!!
Don't know why seeing them all wearing AKG's makes me so happy. That brand! Love it.
