Light My Fire 2020 LIVE in 4k, 5.1 surround* - The Doors (tribute cover)

- I've posted my vocal cover of this one before and got a lot of nice comments, way back when... This time, I've got a little story to share. Nearly 53 years ago, before I recorded this one with my band recently, I was sitting in the back of my mother's second hand 1952 Chevy, that had been given to us by my one of my paternal aunts. The year was 1967. It was summer and I had a huge decision to make and it was weighing heavily on my seven-year-old mind. My mom had given me enough money to by ONE 45-RPM record from the Bullock's department store record department, and we were about to go in. I had to choose between two of my favorite songs that summer that were competing for my seventy-five cents.
What was it going to be? The radio edit of Light My Fire by The Doors? Or Yellow Submarine by The Beatles? Both were huge hits on the radio and I loved both songs. I had no idea what appealed to my seven-year-old sensibilities regarding "Light My Fire". I just knew I liked it. But, hey, what seven-year-old can resist the Beatles and their whimsical song? I bought The Yellow Submarine and happily played it over on my sister's record player - over and over and over again.
But my love for Light My Fire only grew with time and I decided to have my band cover this one because in the long run, this song had a lot more impact and meaning for me than Yellow Submarine ever did, which I still like, but essentially 'grew out of".
No comparison of the bands. Again, I love them both. Fortunately, I don't have to pick one over the other anymore. Thanks for listening and hope you enjoy. BTW, I hope you don't find my "new" natural look too jarring. I became a grandfather and turned 60 within the span of a few months recently and decided to stop trying to kid myself and just let nature take its course - and that includes letting my hair go gray to match my newfound grandpa creds. *UPDATE: 01/23/2021: I took the multi-track masters and remixed this and some of our other best tributes recently in stunning 5.1 surround, but RUclips does not decode discrete 5.1 mixes as of this writing, so what you have here is a proper 2.0 stereo mix to accommodate the current limitations of RUclips. To really fully appreciate how wonderful this tribute can sound, though, I am happy to share a link to the 5.1 surround version to anyone who wants to experience this song in an incredibly immersive way. It practically feels like you're on stage with us. Just e-mail a request to mrsjonesrevenge@gmail.com and I will send you back a link to retrieve the 5.1 file and provide instructions on how to play it back on your 5.1 system.
Sadly, this would be the very last time my band would ever perform this classic. Mrs. Jones' Revenge is no more. For personal reasons, I decided the time was right for me to step away and I left the band on June 8th, 2020 - nearly 10 years after I had originally formed it. The rest of the band then quickly disintegrated. I'll always be grateful for the good run that we had ...
I just discovered this band an hour ago today and reading this sad news. While so far all your songs I listened to sound great, but especially for the Doors it's a perfect band. Sorry to hear that the band broke up.

And these guys do a great job of re-creating it. There is some improvisation and deviation from the original which is very good. I was kinda spacing out as I did listening to the original. Great job all around!!!

One of the few times I ever appeared on-stage with a professional band was when I was about 18. I was at a wedding dance in Red Wing with some classmates from the Electronics program at Saint Paul TVI. During a break I was talking to the organist. I told him I was working on some stuff on my Kimble organ at home, including jamming on the "middle part" of Light My Fire. He told me that I could stand behind him and watch while the band played. One of the tunes they played was LMF. I watched closely as he got into the "middle part". After a bit, he motioned me to replace him! I was unfamiliar with the knee-lever volume-control on his combo organ (the Kimble had a proper organ pedal), but I plunged in. After a bit he gently touched my arm and I moved aside. I kept watching him and his fingers answered some questions I had had about the improvisational possibilities. After the song was over, I thanked him and went back to the table where my classmates were. I asked one of them how it was. "Okay. A little choppier than the other guy." I was pretty-happy to know that I had not made a complete fool of myself.

Thank you, Peter. My band was never about trying to look like the more than 50 artists and bands that we covered. Our job was to come as close to reflecting the original "vibe" of the hits everyone remembers. This is just the tip of the iceberg in the nearly 10-years we were together. Well, that stands to reason. They were there when this song was a huge hit in the summer of 1967 and appreciate hearing a local band perform it live. That's a rarity, these days.
Where was this performed? Looks nice
Lorimar Vineyards and Winery, Temecula CA. It IS a nice place. During our ten year run, it was, hands down, our favorite venue to perform.
