You know your cats love you when they can be seriously scared of a stranger in your house, only to be drawn out when they hear your voice over the phone! That's so adorable!
That's how I know that even though I have moved out of my mom's place about 4 years ago now, they still know and love me. Especially our female cat is actually a bit afraid of strangers but when I visit she never hides even for a single second and usually just stays on my moms lap or wherever else she was sitting on. She apparently recognizes me from my steps or something, she also always needs to sit on my lap and she doesn't do that with visitors either. Cats are just as loving and affectionate as dogs and people need to stop hating on them.

When we were in Kyoto a couple of years ago, % Arabica wasn't as well known and it was about as busy as it is in this video. Very happy to hear they've become popular because it was SO GOOD.
this vlog made me oddly emotional. I was supposed to visit my grandparents in kyoto earlier this year but had to cancel for obvious reasons. Seeing you walk around and recognising those places instantly made me miss my family and Japan so much more
You guys are so lovely!💕As a Japanese, I'm so happy to see foreign people having such a great time as now there are only few foreign people here in Japan!
This made me sooo nostalgic! I visited Kyoto ten years ago, also during fall, and it just took me back. The sight, the sounds, the lights, the contrast between modern and traditional, natural and urban... I’ve been wanting to come back to Japan ever since but life and timing just never worked out. I was going to come this year to mark my 30th birthday but, well, we know what happened there! I felt both so happy and so sad watching this. I know that one day I will be back. Thank you for this video!
So nice that you could explore Kyoto more 🤗 it’s so beautiful. I’ve been there twice but only for a one day trip 😅 I have to stay longer in Kyoto. I really enjoy your vlogmas Sharla! Have a nice day 🤗
I really miss Kyoto. I've seen most of the temples at night. There was a special event and everything was illuminated. It was almost magical. I can't wait to visit Kyoto again. And thanks to you I have ideas now, which stores and cafés to visit, too.
I love this so much. How amazing to be able to go to Kyoto without swarms of other tourists! Wonderful experience for you. And, Emma looks very different here, younger. If you hadn't said her name and I hadn't heard her voice, I wouldn't have recognized her. I like this look on her as she looks her age and should be enjoying being young. Everyone should. The decades go by faster than you realize when you are young. One day I was your age and then the next I was old enough to be your mom. Y'all are doing the right thing to travel and explore when you're young. Enjoy your trip and thank you for sharing it with me!
I was in Kyoto back in March when it was just as quiet, and it was the third time I'd been. Honestly, I loved it. I understand Kyoto needs tourism to survive, but it's brutally over crowded most of the time. A quiet Kyoto is the best Kyoto for tourists, but it's not good for the local economy. Talk about a catch 22. 😌
This was so nostalgic! When I lived in Japan I visited Gion a couple of times but it was so busy all the time! I really appreciated seeing some of the same streets that I walked down. I remember I was so excited the first time I found that Ghibli store!
@@Sheila.16 My Japanese has improved a lot since I commented this ☺️. I'm going to Japan in a few months so I'm looking forward to being able to use my Japanese! Good luck if you're studying too💖
Aloha Sharla, Vicariously enjoying everywhere you go, & enjoying being out with you! Thanks for bringing us along! I love all the Autumn activities, being outside, seeing nature & the shops. It was enjoyable to see the bamboo forested paths & in your other videos the farms, country side & nature stuff. ( I prefer to live & visit rural areas. The cities are fun for only a couple of days, & then it's like they take all my energy.) It's nice to wander down trails with you & hear the birds, look at the streams, & when you go to the onsens, they look enjoyable & relaxing! It is cool to see what it is like in areas not packed full of people in a way too. I guess I'm also thinking back in the day? Speaking of it- Back in the day, My Dad was in the Army Engineers in Japan, Fukuoka & else where at the clean up & rebuild stage after WW2. He talked to me about the people in Japan & how people just want to live a good life, & take care of their families. He liked many of the people he met over in Japan. I remember my Mom said that in about 1948, he brought back a pearl wedding ring for my her & a lacquered black & red jewelry box that played music. It had maybe a picture of a castle on it & maybe maple trees? (I remember some of the momentos when I was very little.) Have you seen lacquard boxes like the jewelry box? What is your favorite meaningful momento? Where does the surroundings fill your soul?
This brings back memories, I did my homestay in Kyoto and it became a city very dear to my heart so watching this was really nostalgic and heartwarming.

I went to Japan last year and a few of the places you showed in this video, I went to as well! It was all so gorgeous! I was in the Kyoto area to explore! While I was there, I found a place to rent a kimono, learn how to put it on, do a photo session and I got to keep the kimono!
I so want to be in Kyoto... It's almost Christmas, I should be getting ready to go to Kyoto... Over the last 4 years of my time in Japan, I'd spend almost every holiday wandering the streets of Kyoto, occasionally planning specific destinations but mostly I'd just grab my day bag and wander aimlessly. It's amazing how many of these I've happened upon through happenstance. If you're in the bamboo forest in Arashiyama, find the music box museum near it. Amazing stuff, old and new. Many for sale.

I went to Kyoto in 2014 on my first trip to Japan, it was so amazing. I bought so many yatsuhashi at Kinkakuji (they also had the best matcha ice cream I have ever had). Thank you for these videos, they are so nice to have when plans to travel this year were postponed.
Hi Sharla, we really like your videos. Not to big ourselves up or anything but we might be able to give you a few tips on getting a really well frothed matcha. First thing is to get soft water like Volvic as hard water doesn't froth as well. Second is water froths better the hotter it is, so get as close to but not beyond 80 degrees celsius as possible. Thirdly when whisking, a lot of people tend to swirl the matcha and water in a circular motion which won't get you good results. Its more like a quick back and forth from the wrist, like lathering up soap with a shaving brush. Some people like to do an M pattern, we don't. Finally, gradually elevate the whisk towards the finish to break up any large bubbles on the top. DO that and you'll be 90% of the way there
I'm so unbelievably jealous of your empty Kyoto experience. I had a hard time enjoying it because there were SO many people. Maybe because it has a smaller town feeling than Tokyo or Osaka, it felt more overwhelmingly busy.
I love these places you showed us~! The trees and the bamboo are amazing looking, and they really compliment the beauty of the shrines. Also thank you for showing us the Ghibli store; I'm a big fan of their animated movies and the lovable characters in them. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year~!
That dragon in the stones is new. We were there all May, and we saw them building the dragon head in the parking lot, we had no idea what it was. In the summer the stones were painted rainbow colours. I guess they change it up regularly. That dragon looks pretty cool. ✌️
Ohh how I miss my beloved Kyoto! I used to ride Shinbashi Dori to work every day. 😊 Everything is sooo empty now! Even in the middle of winter you usually had a bunch of tourists...
Totally agree, Arabica coffee is good- really happy I found it a couple of years ago when I was in Kyoto 😄. You can get the same milk coffee drinks (same quality too) pretty much everywhere here in Australia and I miss them while abroad haha. They probably roast their beans less (light roast/brown rather than dark roast/brown - common in north America) which makes them a lot less bitter, tastier and sweeter. Was super pleased to see similar places popping up too- had a very good lattes at Verve Coffee in Shinjuku station (entrance near Tokyu hands, Takashima department store) and at Blue Sky Coffee at Inokashira Park (near the Ghibli museum in Tokyo) 🙃
The ratio of water to matcha makes a huge difference when you are trying to get that nice foam. If you happen to have a kitchen scale, try using 2 grams of matcha to around 70ml of water. Temperature can also make a difference. I prefer 85°C but I think most places recommend 80°C. Hope that helps a bit :)
Literally my favorite channel to watch on RUclips! ❤ Thanks for always making great content and being so happy. I want to go to Japan one day and your videos are full of interesting and helpful information 🔥🔥
If you happen to be in Kyoto and wanna see not busy bamboo forest, I would recommend to go to Mukomachi city in Kyoto. There's another beautiful bamboo forest and isn't busy at all like in Arashiyama:)
Gion looks soooo beautiful. One of my favorite places there. I was there March of last year and my friends said it was one of the quieter times but it's so refreshing to see it empty. I hope to go back soon!!
It's so beautiful there! I was hoping for monkey's after you read the sign.😂 TFS Sharla! I swear you've kept me company & showed me such great place's I'd never see. Been home for 11 months alone, thank goodness, I've got my fur babies. And you!❤ Love, light and blessings 🤎🤎
Thanks Sharla! Video was beautiful. My trip from March is postponed so I am taking the time to do more research by watching y'alls videos for more things to do outside of tokyo!
I don’t like plain black coffee either, my hubby does, he knows his coffee well but I usually put in coffee cream, either plain flavor or vanilla or cinnamon or Hazelnut and it makes the coffee taste delicious. I don’t put sugar in my coffee since the coffee cream flavors are already sweet, the plain coffee cream is when you just don’t want anything too sweet in the morning. A lot of coffee beans also can be blended with different flavors also, I worked at a cute local bakery and gift shop called Sweet Surrender and I had to learn a lot about coffee and work the espresso machine, the neighborhood people likes going there more than Starbucks! We were always busy! Our boss let us take home bags of coffee or tea, and what was left in the bakery shelves, everyday there was fresh baked goods. I would love to visit Kyoto and just everywhere in Japan someday soon! It all looks just beautiful! 💖
This was so beautiful! I love that you and other creator-friends are getting a chance to visit while it is so empty and create great content. :) Thanks for bringing us along. (Also, side note--you look lovely in that shade of blue!)
Kyoto is definitely on my list to go back and explore more than one day when we go back to Japan on our next trip! Last trip we only went to the Inari Shrine and that was it, and I wish we had stayed in Kyoto longer that day to explore more.
i used to live in kyoto for 5 years as a university student (i did an entire bachelor's degree there) man how i miss the place. the best bars i found were usually tucked away in small sketchy side alleys people usually never walked through.
Me from Colombia watching Sharla in Arabic coffee and behind a huge coffee sac "Colombia pura cepa"☕️. Man it made my day. Miss Japan a ton. Greetings from overseas 💛✌🏻
I was there as an exchange student back in 1991. My friend came over to visit me during Easter and it was the same. Obviously no tourists but also no Japanese and other travelers either. It was a very different time for foreigners living in Japan then, basically if you realised that a non-Japanese person was a resident you talked to them. This could be anywhere from inaka to Ginza-sen.
So great of you for sharing all those precious moments of lovely Japan ❤️. Thank you for this 💖 I have been watching these videos since long ago just informative and all

DO that and you'll be 90% of the way there
Japan is awesome. Sharla is awesome. Too much awesomeness on one island. Impossible!
For those who want to try the coffee with the percentage logo at 6:07 and live in Singapore, there is one at Buigs
That's so pretty!! And the store had a Porco Rosso plushie!!
I'm so unbelievably jealous of your empty Kyoto experience. I had a hard time enjoying it because there were SO many people. Maybe because it has a smaller town feeling than Tokyo or Osaka, it felt more overwhelmingly busy.
Kyoto looks sooooo beautiful! Definitely on my travel wish list!
Everything is sooo empty now! Even in the middle of winter you usually had a bunch of tourists...
First of all I’m in love with your Champion sweater, the color is so beautiful.
Than those sweets omfg. Want them all 🤤🤤🤤🤤
The boxes are so pretty.
Ah thank you! Thought I’d try a new colour for once😂✨
@@sharlainjapan That suits you very well. ❣️Funny but I’m wearing your usual color today. A pastel pink adidas sweater 😂
Thank you!! Will try that!! 😄🙏🏻
I stumbled upon that little street at 02:28 completely by chance in my first trip to Japan, 5 years ago. Pictures can't really make it justice!
Thanks Sharla! Video was beautiful. My trip from March is postponed so I am taking the time to do more research by watching y'alls videos for more things to do outside of tokyo!
What a lovely day out. Glad you shared it with us Sharla.
OHHH Arabica. I remember someone suggested it in the comments on a video. I tried it and it's so good! I totally recommend it
I don’t like plain black coffee either, my hubby does, he knows his coffee well but I usually put in coffee cream, either plain flavor or vanilla or cinnamon or Hazelnut and it makes the coffee taste delicious.
This is amazing, I was thinking about a cafe in the old town Kyoto and you're there!! Loving these alt vlogmas
Thank you Sharla, this video took me back to my Japan trip in 2016! Yatsuhashi was definitely my favourite snack when we went :)
Been to all those places in your video. Makes me miss Japan even more!
Kyoto is definitely on my list to go back and explore more than one day when we go back to Japan on our next trip! Last trip we only went to the Inari Shrine and that was it, and I wish we had stayed in Kyoto longer that day to explore more.
I love the intro omfg, I've watched you since you first started and I can't believe you've grown so far!
Ah, it looks so peaceful!
I've been to Kyoto twice and it's always been manic. I'd love to experience it like this.
Awwww, it was so nice to see your babies! I hope you will be reunited with them soon.
i used to live in kyoto for 5 years as a university student (i did an entire bachelor's degree there) man how i miss the place. the best bars i found were usually tucked away in small sketchy side alleys people usually never walked through.
I know it's "(not exactly) VLOGMAS," but just hearing the music and seeing the title card makes me so happy!!!😊 These videos make this year better ❤️🎄
Merry Christmas Sharla, I love watching you in RUclips with your friends, happy Christmas too all. Stay safe
Merry Christmas!! 🥰🎄❤️
The way the cats come out of hiding for your voice🥺
😭😭❤️
Thank you so much for sharing your trip with your friends. Beautifully filmed. This vid really cheered, me up. Take care
"why does my matcha never look like this?"
Sharla's matcha: *cries*
I haven’t been to Kyoto for long time and your video made me wanna go there soon!! Thank you for sharing ☺️💕
I hope you enjoy your time there.
Thankyou for another Vlog, that was so beautiful. Another place to add to the ever growing list of places to go when I come to Japan
I hope u enjoy what u are doing I'm so envious. You are such a wonderful person thank you Sharla.
Me from Colombia watching Sharla in Arabic coffee and behind a huge coffee sac "Colombia pura cepa"☕️. Man it made my day. Miss Japan a ton. Greetings from overseas 💛✌🏻
Woow imagine having Kyoto to yourself like this. One of my favourite videos you've made and I've been here since 2011-ish? Can't wait for more 😻
I was there as an exchange student back in 1991.
Thank you for this 💖 I have been watching these videos since long ago just informative and all
Yay Sharla!! I've been looking forward to vlogs/videos on Kyoto and you made one!!
I always love watching your videos Sharla, because I am also vegan and I'm learning what foods I can eat in Japan when I visit next year! Thanks, from Montréal!
I just placed my order of your new wishtrend skincare package! So excited
Hope you love it!!!! Let me know what you think🥰
@@sharlainjapan Oh my gosh it came in a few days ago and I have been absolutely loving it so far, already feel an improvement, totally a great Christmas present to myself hahah. Tysm!
This cements it! I'm still planning my first trip, and now I need to find a way to get a second trip! There's so much to do and see, that one trip isn't enough! Sharla-san, the Diet needs to make you the official ambassador of Japanese tourism!
I stayed at an airbnb near that street in Gion. What a beautiful city. I hope I'm able to go back soon!
