May not look the most accurate, but the functions definitely make up for it. The propeller mechanism is both brilliant super effective. Also builds much larger than expected.
The function looks great! It immediately reminded me of the 8232: Chopper Force from my childhood, it contained a virtually identical mechanism. Nice review, as always!
I hope they make more airplanes like this. Maybe even as Creator sets, that would be amazing. The engine mechanism is very nice and you see how it's built too which is a good learning experience.
I hope so too. I'd really like a bigger and more detailed model, specifically something like the CL-415 Super Scooper. Two of those came just in time to keep a wildfire from overrunning our town in 2017, and at one point there were four of them flying in a line, dropping water then refueling at a nearby lake.
Opening these types of boxes with a knife always gives me a strange feeling, since they’re supposed to be opened with your thumbs. I always use my thumbs. Don’t take my previous statement too seriously, as I know that you do that to do as little damage to those boxes as possible, but I’m the type of person that never goes against the instructions. The instructions say to open with your thumbs, so that’s how I do it. Anyways, I really love this set. Despite me being almost 20, I absolutely LOVE running around really fast with this airplane while pulling the lever to spin the propellers! I felt like a 7 year old kid again and not a lot of technic sets do that these days to me. This set is absolutely fantastic and wonderful!
As much as I would've loved a technic Tomcat or a Super Hornet, Lego don't really like doing military vehicles to say the least. But in general Lego should do more aviation, I'm missing a proper airliner or GA aircraft from lego.
@jordanruitenschild4683 I agree. Considering what happened to the Lego Osprey, I think modern military aircraft are not happening again. I just want something new that is really detailed, like the 10226 Sopwith Camel was. An airliner would be amazing.
That propeller mechanism reminds me of the big red helicopter from 4403, there it was even cooler as you could press the sides of the helicopter to make the rotor spin. Also it had the landing gear system much quicker. An amazing set way ahead of its time!
Wouldn't be technic without it. Even the smallest technic prop plane sets will have movable propellers that are rotated by driving the plane across the ground
Last time you called the ailerons "flaps". You got it right this time. For some reason that makes me for more happy than it should. The "elevator" also! Actually, that's a stabilator, but only because it combines the non-moving "horizontal stabiliser" with the elevator. Those aeronautical engineers have a lot of fun with names. Ailerons + flaps = flaperons, elevators + ailerons = elevons, and so on. Love your videos!
I just ordered the Ford yesterday after watching your review. Wasn't into the look of the plane, and these are two vastly different sets obviously, but my kids would get more out of this one. The message is clear and consistent in your videos: non-licensed sets are where the designers showcase their creativity and love for interesting Technic mechanics! Lesson learned!
Nice review of a set that turns out better than expected. I can advise you to check out set 4403 (Air Blazers) from 2003, which has a very similar mechanism to drive the helicopter rotor. And a very cool landing mechanism to boot. And that all in a Creator-like set;)
That ratcheting propeller mechanism reminds me of 31011, the Creator 3in1 set called Aviation Adventures, where the tail gear can be pumped back and forth in a similar way to spin the propeller. It's done much more simply than here too where a rubber piece acts like a spring to allow the gears to engage one way but not the other, if I remember correctly.
As a kid I´d be of course running around with the plane and pressing the propeller mechanism at the same time while making airplane noises, so you could use both hands x>
Lego has actually made *several* sets in the past with this sort of mechanism. The only times I have ever seen them have a model be “swooshable” and have propellers constantly spin in a single direction was by giving the model a handle and trigger.
BTW this technics was firstly used in 31094 Lego Creator Plane set) Funny to see it in technic form, it's more complicated here but do the same what classic lego can))
we definitely need more aircraft! .. more functions as with the cyclic in the rescue 'copter a plane with yoke controlling flaps, ailerons etc. Maybe a fighter jet, old style sweep wing F14 or cool looking typhoon / F35. Airliners like concorde or old miliary 4-engine bombers. Maybe even a titanic-sized aircraft carrier with small jets.
This is the coolest set of this wave in my opinion. It looks really nice and the functions are great as well. I am going to buy because i'm into planes. Great video
I just got this set recently, and I really like it, but I can’t get the rear landing gear to go up, I can force it up eventually, but it’ll fall back down due to gravity and other factors, idk what I’m doing wrong
As soon as I saw those 2x2 "water" pieces I thought hey, LEGO is finally taking seriously the problem of droppable/fireable pieces from play features going missing in the carpet...
That was very cool. You say it's not licensed, but, lets be honest. It's a cross between a de Havilland Canada DHC-5 Buffalo and a de Havilland Canada DHC-8 Dash 8 first generation. Hey, both Canadian planes! No wait, both EXCELLENT Canadian planes - even down to the colouring (the Buffalo in SAR mode had that paint scheme). Maybe I’ll get this!
I think something interesting can be found in comparing this set to the old Black Hawk (8425) which I was lucky to own once (I'm certain I could still rebuild it, perhaps getting a few replacement pieces from bricklink) - both are two engine turboprop aircraft with comparable functions (running propellers, deployable landing gear, movable flight surfaces). I think Technic went a little astray by relying so much on panelling. The old set used old style technic beams, which were basically System beams but with added pin/axle holes and left large chunks portions of the mechanics visible which was in my opinion super cool and, while I understand the desire to differentiate Technic experience from System experience, I think building with more typical brickbuild techniques was actually more fun that the current approach of using large panels and covering everything.
The only part of this beautiful set that should be improved is the nose. But it's easy to replace that angled black beam with something else, using circular elements as axles or connectors. Other possible improvements include the movable tail drawbar and the replacement of the linear actuator gears with a higher gear ratio to make the landing gear descend faster.
this is clearly based on one of the Q family of aircraft likely a Q300 so props should turn in the same direction. also the gear not lifting the aircraft would be realistic. IF some how you sat any aircarft on its belly and tryed extend the gear it would fail. fixing the prop direction would be easy by just flipping one gear sets around.
YES. REVVABLE ENGINE. The last set that could do that was the Mustang looking Creator set from....2014? Basically a P-51 Mustang in awful colors. Might pick this one up. Thanks for the review RB.
I can totally imagine a mod where you add a sort of a pistol grip below so you can swoosh the plane while triggering the engines all with one hand.
bro... how old are you
@@wikkidize let him cook
@@wikkidizelet him cook
@@wikkidize Bro, why are you here? You obviously never did something for others in your life.
@ That's a pretty smart modification for this set
I'd say this set is actually what technic is really about. Nice, simple model with some awesome play feature.
I love Technic Aircraft sets, hopefully we can get them more often in the future :)
May not look the most accurate, but the functions definitely make up for it. The propeller mechanism is both brilliant super effective. Also builds much larger than expected.

Also the Creator 31011 Aviation Adventures. Same slide back and forth with a ratchet for spinning the propellor. Great combo of Technic and System
Yes, 8232 also sprung into my mind first when seeing the gear rack ratcheting mechanism. Glad to have it in my Technic collection too.
I hope they make more airplanes like this. Maybe even as Creator sets, that would be amazing. The engine mechanism is very nice and you see how it's built too which is a good learning experience.

I’d certainly agree

Hoping Lego aviation continues to increase the realism
I’d like to see some fighter jets. Like licensing from Top Gun and paramount
As much as I would've loved a technic Tomcat or a Super Hornet, Lego don't really like doing military vehicles to say the least. But in general Lego should do more aviation, I'm missing a proper airliner or GA aircraft from lego.

That mechanism looks alot like the one inside 4403 Air Raiders, one of the greatest Creator Helicopters ever IMO.
That propeller mechanism reminds me of the big red helicopter from 4403, there it was even cooler as you could press the sides of the helicopter to make the rotor spin. Also it had the landing gear system much quicker. An amazing set way ahead of its time!
So glad to see someone mentioning 4403! :)
"Play features" are actually what people call "functions" which we need more in Technic. So more play features likes this!
It’s amazing how you’re able to upload so often while still making brilliant videos! I’ve been excited to see you’re review of this set. Great video!
I love the mechanism of the propellers..good video. I give you a like
i really like that they added actual mechanism to the propellers. nice set
Wouldn't be technic without it. Even the smallest technic prop plane sets will have movable propellers that are rotated by driving the plane across the ground
When I was a kit I had a Technic set with a very similar mechanism but even more compact, it was in set 8232 Chopper Force
just wanted to say the same. 1997 year
This is quintessential technic, perfect balance of looks and fun functions!!
Yeah! Im soooo excited for this one! Nice reviews Racingbrick!
Beauty. Can't wrap my head around that gearing mechanism
Definitely this airplane is trying to be a DHC 5
Last time you called the ailerons "flaps". You got it right this time. For some reason that makes me for more happy than it should.

Love your videos!
This plane looks so cool! As an aviation and Lego enthusiast, the firefighter plane looks a whole lot like a Bombardier Dash Q400
I miss those days when we all build legos in are bedrooms
I just ordered the Ford yesterday after watching your review. Wasn't into the look of the plane, and these are two vastly different sets obviously, but my kids would get more out of this one.

Very impressive propeller mechanism! I hope we will see more mechanisms like that in the future
One of my favourite set by far
When wil you do the speedchampions McLaren 2pack
I love this set sooo much I might get 2 copies of this so I can upgrade it from a Q300 to a Q400
Nice review of a set that turns out better than expected. I can advise you to check out set 4403 (Air Blazers) from 2003, which has a very similar mechanism to drive the helicopter rotor. And a very cool landing mechanism to boot. And that all in a Creator-like set;)
Lego Technic set 8232 "Chopper Force" from '97 have similar gear rack teeth-skipping design!
The appearance is a bit of a blend of the De Havilland Twin Otter with the later Dash 8
Simillar propeller mechanism was in 31011 lego creator set. This technic plane looks really cool!
damn, that propellor mech is so cool!

Many people don’t like the Technic theme very much, but I think it’s the most interesting and exciting theme! Also, Awesome job! 🎉
i loved this set
I agree, last years technic theme is like speed Champions with Technic pieces.
It’s an interesting set for sure
I have this at the top of my christmas list this year so im really excited to see if i get it 😮
the same mechanism for propeller was in old helicopter 8232. And there you could do it with one hand
As a kid I´d be of course running around with the plane and pressing the propeller mechanism at the same time while making airplane noises, so you could use both hands x>

Thank you from Türkiye .
Very cool set
Looks like this is going to be a definite buy for me! Incredible set!
It's almost perfect set!
I love this uniqe machanism.
BTW this technics was firstly used in 31094 Lego Creator Plane set) Funny to see it in technic form, it's more complicated here but do the same what classic lego can))
That has to be one of the better sets of the recent technic years :o
I'm still amazed with the Osprey, i don't know why but there is something in it...
Thank you for your wonderful review ! Now I expect that you install a pull back motor getting loaded through the handle of the propeller mechanism...
Sea Duck alternative build is why I'm here
Maybe add an electric motor for the propellers? Back in the day many technic kits where skeletons, so really nice to see complete models nowadays.
I have been waiting all week for this video 🎉🎉
we definitely need more aircraft! .. more functions as with the cyclic in the rescue 'copter a plane with yoke controlling flaps, ailerons etc. Maybe a fighter jet, old style sweep wing F14 or cool looking typhoon / F35. This is the coolest set of this wave in my opinion. It looks really nice and the functions are great as well. I am going to buy because i'm into planes. Great video
Great video! Can't wait to buy this set!😃
I remember the old seaplane from the 1980s, an updated one would be nice
This function makes me feel like this is the first actual Technic set they've made in years.
my birthday was yesterday so i really want to get this for myself to build
Tuti megveszem. Egyből megtetszett, ahogy megláttam. Köszi a tippet a radírral. Működik és felületet sem karcol, bár görcsbe állt a kezem a végére. :D
I hope Lego will make a set of the old plane the DC3. It will look awesome 😎
That mechanism is very similar to the one in Lego Agents 8971 Arial defense unit. Loved that set as a kid
This set gives me same vibes as that old red jet technic set I had in childhood
a similar mechanism to that first one is featured in 9396 rescue heli alternate build and it is used to rotate main rotors
뭔가 유명한 브랜등디 라이센스가 아니어도 충분히 멋있고 색상이 독특한 비행기👍
I might ask to get this for my birthday
That mechanism is quite similar to the twin rotor chopper from LEGO Agents
It still is one of my favourite play features
Would be great to see à DC3 detailed as the airbus helicoptere
Cool video. I love this set
It be cool to see a way bigger technic plane that has a ton of functions like working fake engines or even powered up propellers
It's funny to me how many people sign off with "see you next time". 😄
Woaaaahhhh I want this (definitely not just because of the propeller mechanism 😅) Its a very cool set and as always a good review by RacingBrick
Nem tudnám elégé hangsúlyozni, hogy milyen jó, hogy angolul csilálja ezeket a videókat. Szerintem iskolákban kellene használni, mint kiegészítő anyag!
This one looks interesting
"a box with two wings" - well said :) But the propeller mechanism is really cool, it reminds me a red copter from 90th
I just got this set recently, and I really like it, but I can’t get the rear landing gear to go up, I can force it up eventually, but it’ll fall back down due to gravity and other factors, idk what I’m doing wrong
i wish it had a joystick to control the control surfaces like the old technic fire plane had
I totally forgot about this set!
It’s very nice! Has that mechanism like this been used before, a ratchet trigger and a flywheel of sorts for the engines?
I want to see more cars! :)
I compare this one with the other fire plane: 42040. That's a really cool set as well, nice to see an update (and this set is much bigger).
Question: Do you know if the place where the water goes can fit like a hotwheels car? A hotwheels car is like ~4 studs wide by maybe 9 studs long?
At the minute 05:00 on the right side, a model with adjustable propellers appears. What number does this model have?
42113 but it was cancelled after a small number went on sale
I think something interesting can be found in comparing this set to the old Black Hawk (8425) which I was lucky to own once (I'm certain I could still rebuild it, perhaps getting a few replacement pieces from bricklink) - both are two engine turboprop aircraft with comparable functions (running propellers, deployable landing gear, movable flight surfaces). I wish there was a switch so that the engines were automatic spinning
Bought this today😀
For the size and functions, not bad for $100. I'll be adding that to my collection. As always, your builds and opinions are greatly appreciated.
I am actually getting it on October 21 because it was my birthday day on. Sep 6
Beautiful propeller function.
Too bad 60x60cm aircraft are so hard to store :S
YES. REVVABLE ENGINE. The last set that could do that was the Mustang looking Creator set from....2014? Basically a P-51 Mustang in awful colors. Might pick this one up. Thanks for the review RB.
Looks like a nice set but I am really hoping for the community to make an Osprey alt build. Will be checking Rebrickable often.
Omg that would be incredible.
i have this lego techinic!
This’ll be great for some kids to easily mod it to a bomber aircraft
Great set i would get it if it was a licensed one or if i had the space still pretty good
Which one would you recommend more this fire plane or Ford gt
I messed up while adding the gears I forgot to refract the front tear and know it won’t work
I give most Technic planes a pass, but that propeller driving mechanism is super clever, and mimics a lot of children's toys.
