Building my own Crusader Starter - E7

- This Episode takes a break from the ship I built so far and goes back to an Idea from Episode 1, exploring a Crusader Concept. Leaks and Rumours about a Crusader Starter got me interested in this idea again, and there is something about the Intrepid in here, too.

Now that the Intrepid is out, I wish they would have gone with your design.
Ha, really? It honetly is a little ugly, but very pretty on the inside :) Ill still continue mine further.
after seeing what CIG released, I understood why they never showed it in any of the trailers...
So much skill for channel of this size. I wish you the best!
very nice copic sketches. It inspires me to do some spaceship sketches too.
Thank you.
Do it!
@@ace_tristPWN I would if i could draw a stick figure proportionally correct, but I'm really bad at drawing XD
@@ace_tristPWN What markers are you using! Also how are your pages made is it scans of your sketches or is it some kind of drafting paper? I absolutely love the look and how shiny the individual ships are as well as the touches on the bottom right.
@@TaylorConrad1077 Hey, I use a bunch of different Copic Markers, as well as Winsor & Newton Promarkers - I would not say one is better than the other, they have different shades. I work on dedicated marker paper (also Winsor & Newton), otherwise the colours would bleed out. And then for the videos I scan them to add the Logos, texts and such. I also make the a bit more shiny then they are in reality, but not much - I mostly did that so all pages look consistent, and in the very beginning I obviously messed up a few sketched, and this way I could assemble the best ones on one page, but to my own surprise, the crusader outlines are all on one page in reality, too!
This final design looks like it would make a stellar snub / patrol ship to a larger craft. Well done.
Wow, I love your designs and artwork! I could see this as a very small tug in addition to light (maybe snub) local security. Keeping the landing zone safe AND tidy!
I would actually like it as a snub, too, not sure If I can make it that small, though. Great idea though, thanks!
@@ace_tristPWN those black nodes on the front just reminded me of the boats that can posh ships around a dock
@@Revi2151 interesting 🤔
Could honestly have an attachable skid in between the wings to carry some cargo in a pinch!
Your doing the spock ship vibe from star trek 1 here :)
Great idea, but would crusader interfere with their aesthetic for... Functionality?
@@ace_tristPWN good question… maybe for something overengineered? A complex solution like the lantirn module? (F14 add on)
That would transform a pleasure craft or daily driver into something else?
After seeing the intrepid today you were pretty close ;)
I thought the same, bt credit goes to whoever leaked that napkin!
You, sir, are a magician with the pen.
I would 100% buy this ship and although I have several larger ships, I can imagine this thing as a personal shuttle/snub with a bit of cargo storage for short trips.
We really need a Crusader ship with a hangar on top like the Carrack or Odyssey.
Origin and Crusader are my favorite manufacturers
if a ship like this ever becomes available i would buy it instantly. i love crusader ships the most, this is a 10/10
Oh wow, thanks a lot. I'll have to build it then, I guess.
Mastery - I knew given the time your talent in designing your own ship would grow. I was thinking Star wars with somebody on youtube who uploads who I like to watch whom I can't remember but was thinking of recommending to you (I'm new to your channel... 2024 new, meet you yesterday 16th December). Mass Effect has some great conceptual ships too, but you took this design to a whole nother level and I would love to see this vessel in Game.
I think this ship could be used for carrying Cargo - maybe blacklisted Cargo or damaged cargo rather than using Manned units or the Atlas.
Great work, Oh and don't slack off, would like to see more from you ^^.
That would be a cool robo taxi to take you from your hangar to tdd directly and back.
Cool looking ship, one of my first thoughts seeing it was "it looks like it detaches from a larger ship" as if it's meant to fit into a larger hull for more capabilities. Similar to the Caterpillar and it's control "snub",
Hmmmm, interesting...
someone give this dude a job at CIG so he can help fix the pipeline
awesome looking design. love it!
Very happy to have stumbled across your page
Might look cool if it had a cargo strut spindle behind it so it could tow cargo boxes externally sort of like the space trucks from Cowboy Bebop.
love that last one you made looks like it could be a swarm fighter that launches from bigger ships. if it was going to be a policing ship it would need to be a little bigger for a small cargo grid to hold crims
Gives me a feeling of the game "Wipeout 2097"
Initially I was worried that it was too close in design to the 'Banu Defender' but the final version is quite different.
However in regards to what what else the Intrepid versions could do;
A.) Obviously the standard version is a nimble police vehicle (a space version of a police motorbike)
-feeding into that idea it could be equipped with a beam that slows vehicles and stun rockets.
B.) which would make its alternative version a counter to that for doing small scale illegal activities.
-it could have better stealth but less shields, have a small datarunning section instead of the slowing-beam and keep the stun rockets for piracy.
hope that helps.
Great idead, thanks a lot!
You must really like lobsters.
Their aerodynamics are just superior.
I would love a racing ship from Crusader it even looks like a racing vehicle from the game Wipeout.
I like the design of the ship at your top right of the drawing at 1:30 minutes. It looks like a butterfly shape and it is flush with the nose of the cockpit which gives it a good silhouette and compact size, which is good for a starter ship. It's not too flashy and eye-catching but great for starter material. It could be the only small fighter for Crusader as well...
The ship in the thumbnail looks too much like a Vanduul ship, so it probably won't get approved.
The rendition of the Intrepid looks odd when asymmetrical... I prefer your butterfly drawing. Submit your drawing to the Intrepid design team and see if they agree.
Oh well, I liked that shape in particular too, but It does not look crusader to me. As you said, the Butterfly look is way too nature inspired - would maybe work better with another manufacturer?
CIG ... Hire this fuckin man, make him an offer he can't deny! I need this ship!
i really hope CIG does a LF for crusader. they are my favorite aesthetic, and I am a LF pilot at heart.
I could imagine then making a sleek, small agile fighter with either dual S3 or an symmetry gun design maybe a S4/S5. though its not obvious at first, i really like how Crusader merges these extremely symectric-looking sleek ships with singular off-symmetry elements, like the ares or MSR
Nice ship. It feels like a Crusader version of a kilrathi KF-100 Dralthir and feels to me like a human banu defender, "roadster"???
I would probably make the top of the booms more areodynamic and make it look more like the big fins of the 50's.
Either expose more innards to make it feel more roadstery or add some sort of colour to make it like coast guard/police/quick intervention...
and strangely enough put maybe a tractor beam on one of the booms and a big movable light on the other. (reason: make it feel like a designed by comitee, useful but flawed product used by Crusader internally... and one of those ships employed to save people jumping)
Sorry about the rambling. I felt that this ship had something and wrote what I felt when I saw it. Hopefully it can encourage you. You have awesome talent.
Rambling, especially if it is on topic like this, is highly encouraged and appreciated in my comment section! Great ideas, thank you!
It looks a lot like an update to the Alliance Shroud from Starlancer, just with a Crusader twist. That is one ship that was once box art that I think CIG is making a mistake not to have a human version of. The Vanduul Glaive has long been a close representation, but it is being redesigned, and certainly is not a human ship. Perhaps a dedicated stealth fighter from Anvil or Crusader would make sense, make it lore that the design has been kept secret and was designed to imitate the silhouette of Vanduul ships while acting as a scout and claiming victories from unsuspecting foes.
You mean the one that is on the cover of Starlancer? I have never played it, but my father had the (big old CD) Box in the shelf, so I spent hours looking at it and it sure influenced me. I like your ideas, too, thank you!
@ace_tristPWN Yeah, that's the one! And that's the game I had in my youth that lead me to back SC. The Shroud in it was the Alliance's first fighter to have cloaking technology, hence the name and why I feel if it were to receive a SC facelift it should be a stealth fighter.
@@kentyannayon3741 That would fit a lot more for the other ship I am building, If you have a look at the last episode. They have the same base shape because they are both based on the same sketches, but that one goes more anvil/segis and would come closer to a stealth fighter visually.
I finally found your channel again, great vid as usual.
I keep meaning to ask, what's your background? The way you sketch, combined with your 3D skills makes me think industrial design.
I've always admired this form of concept development and it's something I want to get good at with my own art.
MOAR ship concept art!!!
@@olternaut Ok sir, CitCon gave some fresh ideas, more is on the way!
@@ace_tristPWN Excellent. Here are a couple ideas: A Zeus Mk2 but with a bigger bridge. I like the negative space bridge they did but how about one that is bigger? I mean, like a giant arrowhead. That way, you could fit at least 5 on the bridge. And give it a nice curved belly so the ship can have a lower deck. The lower deck would end where the cargo area begins. The Starlancer, while nice, could have been made even sleeker and more organic looking with it's curves. How about a RSI ship in between the size of the Zeus and Galaxy with design cues from both? Ideas keep coming.
Love your work 😍
this is so cool!! kinda reminds me of subnautica lol
Joined up on Patreon. May want to take a look at the link for the walkthrough, as it's giving a 404 error. Excellent video, and looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the final version(s?) of the ship :)
Hey, sorry about that, the link got shortened, but it should be fixed now! Thank you very much for joining and sorry again for finding the first massive Error!
@@ace_tristPWN - Life happens ;)
@@RetinaBurner I sent you a new link by Patreon DM. Hope that works. I am still on my way home from citCon and my internet is spotty, but we'll get that working, worst case I'll send you an offline build for now!
I liked some of your other sketches better only because of the visabilty for the pilot is limited in this one. Unless the cockpit sits higher to avoid having the arms block vision it will not work well as a fighter in my opinion. Nice looking though. Personally I liked the sketch that was in front of the one you chose. Center bottom sketch only needs a more filled out engine section then you got a badass light fighter. Or take the one you chose and move the cockpit back to the center and raise it as a bubble canopy, maybe? IDK your the designer not me, I'm just shooting from the hip.
This looks like a SC version of the Seamoth, from subnautica.
I did not play that, but I see what you mean - but the Seamoth is a lot cuter!
@@ace_tristPWN yeah, the Seamoth is rounder and almost like a caricature of a more realistic version like yours, but I did see a cool correlation. It's a good thing as the Seamoth is wildly beloved by the Subnautica community.
CIG should hire you 👌
Are you sure? Next video in 2026 :)
CGI should ask people to send there own designs in and the best 3 or whatever they actually model and put in the game that be cool 😅
They actually did that once, but it turned out to be too much work, as they had to basically redesign everything to fit their metrics - but of course I like the idea, too!
You should apply for the concept art team at cig dude we need your ideas in game
Orison fighters should look a little more similar to Mass Effect's.
Because of you star citizen needs to hurry cause at some point players will be looking for molded ships.
uhlala looks nice
@tristPWN with the new CitCon teaser on the Intrepid, do you think the gun is a fl33 or a new massdriver model ? Also before the engine block on the top, do you think that narrow black patch is a hardpoint or a retractable gun ? ( im leaning towards retractable gun, feels more Crusader like)
Have you ever thought of trying to get on cig to be a ship builder? I would 100% get this if it came to game.
Thank you :) But no, not really, I have an equally cool job and am afraid I would loose my love for SC if this becomes work rather than hobby!
@@ace_tristPWN far enough I do know the feeling my ma wants me to be a chief and I love cooking but when I worked at a restaurant I hated cooking when I got home. Regardless maybe you should send some of your ideas to CIG and who knows maybe they will add it to the game. Just an idea being put out there.
@@recoandmidnight1555 That I might actually do once I finish something :)
Crusader Lobstar? Do you have a name for it? I really like the design of it.
i love your videos
Shuttle ship
We already got that though, right?
dieser akzent macht mich fertig..deutscher ? :D aber respekt guter content
Tja, den wird man nicht los...
Please apply for a job at CIG :D
Do you do toilets as well?
When it's really necessary.
Honestly, to me, the wings look like they're attached backwards.
What I see in Crusader ships is the delta shape, with cockpit being the forwardmost part, and your design lacks this feature. Those pincers just make it look unbalanced.
@@Jan_Strzelecki fair!
They should have gone with your design instead
Ha, thanks!
You're a talented artist, but Crusader makes good looking vehicles and this design is fugly. Why does it have two rear ends; one in the rear and one in the front? It looks like the tail of a Spirit mated to the tail from a Herculese with a stubby Aries cockpit slapped on.
That stings a bit, but I can take it. I see what you mean, too, but I think or hope it gets resolved once I add the detailing.
I see where you're coming from but it seems like you're ignoring Crusader's stranger offerings. With ships like the MSR and Ares fighters released we can see that Crusader has no qualms with making strange front ends when they have a use, as this theoretical one does
