This weekend before Mardi Gras would typically be a big one for everybody in the city, especially musicians and hospitality workers, but all bars and clubs are being shut down by the city until Ash Wednesday. So if you’re able, virtually tip your favorite New Orleans musicians or bartenders, they can really use your help.
Tuba Skinny, for me the best traditional Band from New Orleans (or from the World??) with the famous Lady Shay Cohn 👏👏🇺🇸🇩🇪

Many thanks, Randy. Like 'Hard Pushin' Papa', also played in this set, it's in the 12-bar blues format - probably chosen to enable The Travelling Pianist to join in easily with both tunes. 'Hard Pushin' Papa' was in the key of G; but 'You Got Me Rollin', Mama' is in F.
Pops, isn't this the same tune as "Hear Me Talkin' To You" as recorded by Ma Rainey?
Thanks for this perceptive observation, James! We quite often come across two 'different' 12-bar blues which are virtually identical in chord progression and melody, if not in words. I suppose that was inevitable with such a basic musical form. By the way, you have reminded me that Tuba Skinny themselves also have 'Hear Me Talking To You' in their repertoire. How do they do this? I play blues harp and can't imagine how I could play when cold! And I am in Rhode Island, no stranger to cold, just to playing in it!
It wasn't that cold there. Note the audience member in shorts @ 3:35. Winter nights in New Orleans rarely get below 40F. According to AccuWeather, the overnight low was about 50F that night.
