  • I feel like I've been waiting forever for this Steam Deck so let's see if it was worth waiting for. This review is strictly based on how I think most people will use it which is basically playing games from Steam.
    I'll definitely play with it a lot more like the PC it is and more videos will come with my findings. Thanks for watching!

    thanks for your informative video. I was 2 weeks late to buy my steamdeck then I contacted steam and explained my situation and was allowed to buy it again. can't wait to receive it I like a handheld console better than sitting in front of my gaming pc all day

      Yeah, I love PC games but as I get older I have less time to sit at a desk by myself for hours at a time. The Steam Deck lets me play when I have time and still be able to interact with people near me.

    I've personally found the Steam Deck to be more comfortable to hold than my Steam Controller. I'll admit that in some situations LB/RB (so L1/R1 on the Deck) can be hard to reach but if it becomes a problem then I'll just bind those on L4/R4 for easier access. Not only this makes those more accessible but it also allows me to basically use LT/RT simultaneously with LB/RB which normally would be hard to do without awkward hand position (index fingers on LB/RB and middle fingers on LT/RT).
    I won't say the Steam Deck is flawless but as far as input options go, including Steam Input configurator, I'm very much impressed. I hope the game compatibility can get even better over time but even now some games rated as unsupported have been working but obviously that depends on the game. I've found some games that have a few or some (minor or major) issues but the number of games that have been working well has been far greater, although for the most part I try to avoid downloading and checking out every unsupported game in my library. I don't typically have problems with verified or playable game, and even many of the unknown games seems to work great.
    Anyway, the point is that I've been greatly enjoying my Steam Deck that I've had about 1,5 months.

      That's a good tip with the rb/lb remapping to the back. It's a great first gen product and you can see how much better it's going to get with time. Most newer games seem to be supporting the steam deck too so I think there'll be plenty of verified games in the future.

      @@Loaded0 If there is one thing I miss from a Steam Controller it's those dual stage triggers where full pull had that click at the end. With the Deck there is soft and full pull but those are based on distance you pull so it is a lot easier to do full pulls by accident when trying soft pulls. It's probably just going to take a little bit of practice before I get used to it. I'm sure Valve must have had a reason why they decided to not have that on the Deck but considering what we got in return it's hard to consider it as a loss really. I've even used the touchscreen as the main input in some games. The trackpads are of course great but sometimes it can feel more natural to just touch things on the screen if accuracy isn't as important. That's probably my favorite thing about the Deck: It provides all kinds of input methods and it's completely up to the player to choose and decide what they want to do with them. No one is forcing to use the touchscreen, trackpads, gyro or the baack buttons, or anything else but they are still there in case someone needs them. In my case I love using right trackpad for camera control in 3d games using it as a mouse because how much better it feels compared to the right stick most of the time. In some games this unfortunately makes the glyphs switch between controller and kb/m glyphs whenever I use the camera which is both understandable and unfortunate. However, if I want to use a flick stick feature then that feels more comfortable on the right stick. Every one has their own preferences for controller schemes, and I see nothing wrong with it but there's also no harm in trying out new things.

      Yeah I did notice the steam controller had the extra click for triggers. Was great for not having accidental mouse clicks from the triggers. It's not a feature in any other console controller so probably wasn't used enough.
      I recently played Papers, Please on the Steam Deck and it has a very interesting community made control scheme. It's amazing what people can come up with and it's nice that it can be downloaded and shared for any game.

    It’s easier to hit the back buttons against the back of the Steam Deck and not against the curve, so more like pushing your finger vs pulling. I learned this from other reviews.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад

      I would say the amount of pressure it takes is the same, but it's physically easier and quicker to do a pressing motion compared to a squeeze motion. That reminds me I should try a racing game. The back buttons would be pretty good gear shifters.

    I love mine, got a 64 GB model, but that space really fills up quick even if you're using an SD card for your Steam games. I don't have any games installed on my 64 gig but only have like five gigs of space left from all the Steam updates and proton updates.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад

      I've noticed that some games leave files randomly on the internal drive even though they're installed to the SD card. Hopefully Valve gives us a quick way to clean up that stuff or 64GB models might have trouble with updates later.

      I ordered the 512gb because I simply didnt want to open up my steam deck, saves me the hassle. Also yeah 64gb isn’t enough since even mobile devices cant get away with that anymore. Still its good its cheap that way you can just buy a huge micro sd card if you didnt want to spend alot on internal storage

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад

      I saw Valve's teardown video and it didn't seem worth the trouble to change the SSD for me too. If I happen to get an extra Steam Deck I might try it though. Prices for the SD cards are getting better. I bought a Samsung 512gb SD card on Amazon for $47 recently.

      The main issue seems to be the internal drive getting bloated by the shader cache for all the games installed on the micro SD. There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to mitigate this built into the deck and 64Gb aren’t enough. I have a ton of games on a 1tb microSD and haven’t installed anything on the internal storage… yet I only have less than 1Gb free on the deck lol

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад

      Oh I didn't even think about that. My Deck is always updating shader cache too. That along with ever growing OS files will fill up that 64gb quick. At least there is an option to change out the emmc drive when it gets desperate.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад

      Does yours have the "updates fan controls" setting on? I wonder if it's a new fan in newer models or if it's that setting on by default now.

      when did the new steam decks ship? i got mine around mid july.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад

      I don't know if it's anything new, but Valve has used different components (like the two different SSD types) while manufacturing to keep up with demand so it's totally possible they use different fans in some.

      I'm collecting the games slowly on consoles and PC as they go on sale. I'm scared to jump into the series actually. I know it's going to be great, but I also don't know if I can invest all the time.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад +1

      Yeah it would have been great with an OLED. You can tell they were trying to keep costs down since they had to include so many control options.

      @@Loaded0 yea I’m real conflicted with the etched glass no one can agree on if a screen protector should be used on it.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  Год назад

      You can use one, but it'll just end up adding reflections which is what the etched glass is supposed to limit. I had one, but I took it off because I noticed the touch sensitivity wasn't as good. It was a cheap no name brand one that was kind of thick.
