The coyote v8 which is in this car and all the v8 Mustangs are based off are pretty much the best v8 out here. 1200+ hp can be made with a factory sealed coyote ever opened up. Stock everything just throw boost suspension and maybe a built transmission and you have 7-8 sec 1/4 mile car. Or go this route or gt500 and for a fraction of the price you are able to compete with or beat most supercars at the dragstrip and road course. Figure a stock gt500 costs 1/3 of the supercars they can compete with. It runs within a second of a Ferrari f8 tributo, Lamborghini huracan EVO and Porsche 911 turbo s. Around Laguna seca and a lot say they like the brakes better. That same car can easily make 1150whp and run mid to low 9s in the 1/4 mile with minimal upgrades. That makes it a hypercar killer. And since they are all mustangs you can really go any direction from handling to straight line power or a mix of both.
Haha if you have the money to put a supercharger or twin turbo system on it you can get pretty close to mach 1. Seriously, the motor is proven to be able to handle it. I recommend checking out some of the street racing channels. Once you see what some of these boosted Stangs do to even heavily modified hellcats and Camaros you'll never even think of a hellcat ever again. They utterly dominate the streets. The pushrod V8 fatcats and 'maros don't stand a chance against the top end pull of a boosted Coyote. Fact

I almost felt bad about the new 2021 Mustang GT Premium with Magneride and GT Performance pkg when they said 460 ftlbs of torque. I was sure the only difference was 20hp and torque was the same. Glad to see they misspoke, and corrected it, so that I can stop crying. 😀

They need to get this car into a Bond movie!! That's part of the reason the 1971 Mach 1 was such a huge hit. Diamonds Are Forever is one of my favorite Bond movies and it's partly because of the Mach 1. I'm NOT a Mustang guy, but there are certain Mustangs that just are iconic and the Mach 1 is definitely one of them. Nice work, Ford! Beauty of a car!

Dodge's ridiculous theory of "just throw more power at it" still remains its issues. Not to mention they're inability to get all them horses to the ground.
1970 Mach 1 was my first car. Wish I still had it...fond memories of me and my dad out in the garage rebuilding it. The colored stripe on the seat backs makes me smile. Glad they kept that. Too bad I dont have 70 grand laying around

Kenny926 for me it’s the opposite of right - it’s just slow to do it that way when you need speed. Since we now have fast, paddle-operated autos, the only reason for me to choose a manual over those is the fact that I can skip gears and be faster at cornering in a manual transmission.

My 1st car was a Mustang. Wish I still had it. 1964.5 coupe. No power steering or power breaks, no AC 260 cid V-8 3 speed auto that could be set to start in second gear to improve traction in rain and snow!!!! That thing would go through anything. Just bypass 1st gear and start in 2nd gear!!!!! What a beast!!! Loved my Mustang!
Excellent review, thanks. And, humorous too. I have a GT 350 for a daily driver, one of the first off the line in 2016 and it is so sweet. Puts a smile on my face whenever I get into the vehicle. The Mustang is really a great value from a cost- performance basis. This new Mach 1 is a nice collection of components and priced well between the 500 and base GT. 500 looks wicked but really, how often are you going to use all that power. Plus, it gets terrible gas mileage. The GT 350 and the Mach 1 are both nicley balanced and offer superb form and function. No doubt the new M4 is an awesome car if you can get over the front end treatment. But, once again, is the price premium really worth it in comparision to either a Mach 1 or GT 350? No. Camaro gives you marvelous performance for what you pay but the ride is tuned for the track and that will not be where owners use this car regularly.
I am a ford employee who builds these 10hours a day and can truly say this car is a step up from gt 350 . gt 350 only had different sound and front fenders.
And a rip off. It’s a Ford so paying that much just to have quality issues is insane. Better off with a Camaro or, for the same money, a much more fun Challenger with a 6.4L V8. Better engine, better transmission, better built, faster, and better interior with a far better infotainment.
I would definitely pick the Mach 1 with the performance package,six speed manual transmission and leather Recaro seats,(and of course it would have to be in “fighter jet Grey”)!

I drove a 1969 Mach 1 428 CJ. The car ran to 60 in about 5.8. Couldn't handle worth a crap and braking was the ultimate adventure (never a good one). My 1986 and 88 GTs were FAR SUPERIOR and only a 1/2 sec slower to 60 with that "new fangled EFI". But this one looks like an ALL AROUND WINNER!!!
My dad drove a '69 Mach 1 back in the 80s. It had a 390 GT paired to an automatic. Of course it had the shaker hood; I'm hoping someone makes a good aftermarket kit for these cars.
I owned a coyote mustang and I’m an extreme gearhead that solely focuses on fun and the enjoyment of driving. I’m not a big HP guy, I’m more of a powerband guy and feelings guy. Miata, s2000, e30, bug eye sprite are some of my favorite vehicles to drive. The mach 1 represents the perfect vehicle to me. Well, other than a cayman gt4 with $20k custom trans gears (gearing is way too long in all boxsters and caymans for me to enjoy, i like shifting a lot at low speeds) I would probably prefer driving the gt350, but the coyote is nearly as good without the exotic engine reliability issues.
Wow this car is pure mechanic gold! Strength, hp, acceleration and pace. It is everything a modern muscle car should be. In Italy we have Fiat Puntos (😪)

I‘m with Yuri. Don‘t need a fake Shaker hood scoop. The Mach 1 seems like the sweet spot Mustang and this grey color choice looks also badass. Like back in 2016 the Camaro SS 1LE in Kryptonite Green seemed like the sweet spot Camaro.
I owned a 1969 Mach 1 428 SCJ with a shaker scoop, was a badass option, and really made the car. Nothing like revving the motor and seeing it lean over.

I get sick and tired of hearing people griping about the lack of the shaker hood scoop. My 1969 Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet did not come with a shaker hood scoop. Shaker hood scoop was not available until halfway through 1969 model year.
Would love to see the SS 1LE compared to the Mach 1 both track day and street. The suspension is way better in zl1 and lower models. The ZLE with spool valves is just too much for the steet like you said and not great comparison... Mag ride is just as good though in base ZL1 👍can't wait for that video.

Best bet is sell and not trade as new premium types are also selling at higher prices. I guess you could just bank your money from a sale and wait for pricing to get black to normal on new ones. Not a good time to buy a GT 500 or Mach 1 now. But good time to sell used ones. Trading not so good now due to higher new ADM’s on Mach 1 and GT500?
I bought a brand new Mach I in 1972 with a 351 Cleveland engine. Cost me $4,500, had a C-6 automatic transmission. Owned it for two years. Got married in 1973 & sold it because my wife was so short she had trouble seeing over the dash. Biggest mistake of my life (selling the car, not marrying the wife). Would love to have the car, but still happily married 47 years!

To me, the Shaker WAS Mach 1. It makes or breaks the car, it's the only thing that sucks about this car.

Excellent review, thanks. And, humorous too. I have a GT 350 for a daily driver, one of the first off the line in 2016 and it is so sweet. Puts a smile on my face whenever I get into the vehicle. The Mustang is really a great value from a cost- performance basis. This new Mach 1 is a nice collection of components and priced well between the 500 and base GT. 500 looks wicked but really, how often are you going to use all that power. Plus, it gets terrible gas mileage. The GT 350 and the Mach 1 are both nicley balanced and offer superb form and function. No doubt the new M4 is an awesome car if you can get over the front end treatment. But, once again, is the price premium really worth it in comparision to either a Mach 1 or GT 350? No. Camaro gives you marvelous performance for what you pay but the ride is tuned for the track and that will not be where owners use this car regularly.

I am a ford employee who builds these 10hours a day and can truly say this car is a step up from gt 350 . gt 350 only had different sound and front fenders.

And a rip off. It’s a Ford so paying that much just to have quality issues is insane. Better off with a Camaro or, for the same money, a much more fun Challenger with a 6.4L V8. Better engine, better transmission, better built, faster, and better interior with a far better infotainment.

I drove a 1969 Mach 1 428 CJ. The car ran to 60 in about 5.8. Couldn't handle worth a crap and braking was the ultimate adventure (never a good one). My 1986 and 88 GTs were FAR SUPERIOR and only a 1/2 sec slower to 60 with that "new fangled EFI".
But this one looks like an ALL AROUND WINNER!!!

My dad drove a '69 Mach 1 back in the 80s. It had a 390 GT paired to an automatic. Of course it had the shaker hood; I'm hoping someone makes a good aftermarket kit for these cars.

I owned a coyote mustang and I’m an extreme gearhead that solely focuses on fun and the enjoyment of driving. I’m not a big HP guy, I’m more of a powerband guy and feelings guy. Miata, s2000, e30, bug eye sprite are some of my favorite vehicles to drive.
The mach 1 represents the perfect vehicle to me. Well, other than a cayman gt4 with $20k custom trans gears (gearing is way too long in all boxsters and caymans for me to enjoy, i like shifting a lot at low speeds)
I would probably prefer driving the gt350, but the coyote is nearly as good without the exotic engine reliability issues.

I‘m with Yuri. Don‘t need a fake Shaker hood scoop. The Mach 1 seems like the sweet spot Mustang and this grey color choice looks also badass. Like back in 2016 the Camaro SS 1LE in Kryptonite Green seemed like the sweet spot Camaro.
I owned a 1969 Mach 1 428 SCJ with a shaker scoop, was a badass option, and really made the car. Nothing like revving the motor and seeing it lean over.

My ol man had his own body shop, and was a Ford guy through and through! He had a 69 Mach 1 as well as a 69 fairlane. BEAUTIFUL cars.
I get sick and tired of hearing people griping about the lack of the shaker hood scoop. My 1969 Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet did not come with a shaker hood scoop. Shaker hood scoop was not available until halfway through 1969 model year.
Would love to see the SS 1LE compared to the Mach 1 both track day and street. The suspension is way better in zl1 and lower models. The ZLE with spool valves is just too much for the steet like you said and not great comparison... Mag ride is just as good though in base ZL1 👍can't wait for that video.

I think it’s main difference is the transmission from the GT 350! Aero too and cooling upgraded!

@@IMGONEIN60 - Yes I’ve noticed that inventory is very low on car lots here. Most dealers have very little new cars and are hunting for cars like mine. Best bet is sell and not trade as new premium types are also selling at higher prices. I guess you could just bank your money from a sale and wait for pricing to get black to normal on new ones. Not a good time to buy a GT 500 or Mach 1 now. But good time to sell used ones. Trading not so good now due to higher new ADM’s on Mach 1 and GT500?
Tremec Trans have been legendary in the after market world for 20 years already.
I bought a brand new Mach I in 1972 with a 351 Cleveland engine. Cost me $4,500, had a C-6 automatic transmission. Owned it for two years. Got married in 1973 & sold it because my wife was so short she had trouble seeing over the dash. Biggest mistake of my life (selling the car, not marrying the wife). Would love to have the car, but still happily married 47 years!
