She was a fusion drummer at first - but pretty versatile as you can see 😉. Multi-instrumentist too (piano was her first instrument and she's still playing it fine), guitar, bass, sax ... And she sings. And cooks (she has a dedicated channel). And of course she's a mother of two adorable little girls. Superwoman.
She also has a video of her doing some tile work on her patio..lol
Tamu is a session drummer. She has participated in many artists, musicians' projects and live performances. Sometime She plays the drums just looking at the sheet music when performing with some other artists or bands, Her understanding of music theory is amazing, it's probably about her being a multi-instrumentalist🤘🏻
This is the Daisuke Kurosawa Project that did some of the best X Japan covers I've heard. The singer is a Toshi X Japan cover singer. The best video of Tamu is her audition for Yoshiki for his Lady X Japan project. He was stunned when she finished playing the cover of "Kurenai". He asked her what BPM level she has got to, answer 200 BPM. Yoshiki said he barely got to 160 BPM.

This is a session project by Daisuke Kurosawa. They did covers of X Japan (maybe other ones?). sa'ToshI ("Toshi's doppelgänger from X Japan") on vocals. TAMU living her best life. YOSHIKI clearly an important influence because she covers him a lot and jamming with TOSHI himself on vocals must be a special moment for her. 🥁🐸🏆

Murata Tamu has been sponsered by Tama drums for quite some time, she even used to go by the moniker 'tm tm' (Tom tom, like the type of drums on the set).
During Naon の Yaon in 2021, Tamu filled in for Gacharic Spin's drummer reading off of sheet music.
Fantastic drumming played by someone who has such an attractive personality
Tamu endorses Tama Drum (2016) and Meinl Cymbal (2019) and her cymbal work is very impressive. Yes this song seems easy for her - and was pretty recent (2020 I think) since at the age of 24 (2017) she played X JAPAN's Kurenai in front of the original drummer Yoshiki who was very impressed with her speed which she demonstrated there (around 180 bpm) and he was even more impressed learning that young Tamu at that age already reached 200 bpm speed.

Covering Yoshiki’s stuff is always a full out sprint, but you should show him Tamu covering Nevermore by Symphony X or her doing Dream Theater where she has to use her whole brain! She is mind-bendingly good!💪🏻🤘🏻

I love her also Marina Bozzio the daughter of Terry Bozzio who played with Frank Zappa who plays with Aldious and has 3 bass drums and my favorite of all is Haruna of Lovebites.
The smiling RAITEI does it so easily. Metal is just a walk in the park for Muratatam. Then she plays keyboards, bass, sax and xylophone for fun. Plus she cooks as well.

I saw Senri Kawaguchi (on her birthday) a few days before Band Maid at TGT. By far, Senri live hits hard and with precision. I learned of Tamu, through her drum collab show with the puppets, when she had Senri on. She admired and matched Senri. Akane, Senri, Tamu and Haruna, man, Japan Rocks, Po! Btw, wouldn't it be cool if Tamu invited Akane on her cooking show, Po!? 😁🦍🍌
A much better example of her amazing dynamics is her cover of Nevermore by Symphony X. It’s from her own channel and I’m positive you’d both really dig that one!💪🏻🤘🏻

The thing is it's not where she shines the most. She can do amazing things, but in this kind of song, it's not where you have all the subtle things she can do. It's less impressive on the speed side of things with NEMOPHILA originals, but I find that there are many more nuances there.
That's why I love NEMOPHILA. They drop an incredible amount of technicalities in their songs without it getting in the way of songs.

There are so many other Tamu drum covers that show her amazing skills so much better..
Drummer Japan decided to have a vote on the top drummers in Japan, male and female and all genres of music. Over 1700 drummers received votes out of almost 33,000 votes cast. Tamu came in at #47 which puts her in the top 3% of all Japanese professional drummers. Others I saw were Haruna of Lovebites at #42, Akane of Band-Maid at #116, Junna at #127 and Yoyoka at #143. Nao of Maximum The Hormone, probably an inspiration to all the drummers I mentioned (I know she is for Tamu and Akane), was at #95.
And here is a very promising future #1 Japanese drummer!

Can't really see how to put Haruna above either Tamu or Akane. To be honest, I perceive Lovebites as a bit dull rythmically - it's the main reason I don't really enjoy their stuff. Admitted - I have no clue what Haruna is doing beyond Lovebites, so there may be something lost on me.

@@ottoweh Of the three, I personally put Haruna above Tamu and Akane. Akane, however, is much lower than I expected. I also don't agree at all that Lovebites is anywhere close to being dull rhythmically. I have always been impressed with how Haruna can do so much with such economy of movement.

While this was fast, it might have been the least complex piece I've ever heard Tamu doing. So a bit of a disservice to her to pick this one for a drummer's reaction, as perfection in complexity is her real craft.
It would have been nice to show him the demo video of OIRAN, where MURATA demonstrates much more creativity. This song involves very fast drumming, and stamina, but that’s all.
