- Some of the first video footage I recorded way back in March 1991. Saturday evening and then the following Sunday morning at The Hollies and Hilton Park M6 services with a few clips on the m6. J Millar, East West
What a great video
Before everything as follows:
Having to wear hi visibility
Internet
GPS
Camera in the truck
Emission Controls
Speed limiters
Electronic Work Diaries
Drug Test
Rat Race
Traffic Jam
Speed Camera
When trucking was trucking, life was simpler, good money was to be made, everyone helped everyone, you got there when you got there.
What have we lost in 30 years & it's going to get worse.
I am 50 years old been in trucking 35 years & I remember all these classic european prime movers here in Australia. Still a few of them getting around, but unfortunately today's truck drivers wouldn't know how to drive one because it has a stick.
Thoroughly enjoyable video
Yeah mate. These were the days when a truck had a stick and 3 pedals. It was a pleasure to drive.

So true,
I love driving my bosses old girl because no else wants to drive it & know how.
1996 Scania Day Cab Cabover 420 hp , 12 speed straight pipe boosted to 470 hp.
No cruise control, 3 pedal in & out of the quarry grossing 40 tons & she sounds awesome on hands & knees in 3 rd gear at 1900 rpm going through the cutting.
No changing gears to steep of a climb, holding up the 600 hp Benz's & 730 Hp Scania's behind me wanting to push me along.
Nothing like old school trucking
Proper tangs
Love the sound of doubling the clutch thanks for the uploads you have kept me going old school trucking thanks more please
Remember the Irish trucks coming past my uncle like he was stood still in his 112m back in the 80s
He used to sit at 60 65mph too
Great days of trucking
Takes me back to school holidays in the cab with my dad bless him....happy times.
Brilliant video , thanks very much , brings me back
Absolutely brilliant!!!!!! That's how I remember trucks!!!!!!!
First class. McArdle and Mackin convoy at the end 👌
fantastic stuff John,a real history lesson in it,great sights and sounds..thanks for uploading..
I was 10 year old wen this was made, reminds me of trucking with my dad back in the day, 28 years later Im now a trucker of 18 years and boy how times have changed !! Great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
when 60 mph was the limit unless you was irish then the limit was the red line on you rev counter
Correct
Kinda felt sorry for the poor guy in the Sierra on the hard shoulder. Nearly every truck blowing past him doing 70mph .must have been shifting himself.
what a great video john i love it the hollies was always a good stop as your food was ready before you sat down your very welcome down my yard anytime im close to the hollies
Pure class 👍☘🇮🇪
Great job on the camera, makes me feel part of this wonderful group of people👏👏
Top men back in the day.and still are.
When lorries gave me a buzz.Lovely to see
Brings back some memories, funny how I knew that is was the Hollies from the first few seconds, not that I frequented it often!!!!!
No 59 km limited trucks back then. Sadly I recognise some of trucks from Ireland, I knew quite a few, and the drivers . Keep it up all night.
before the 90 km/hr limiters were fitted
The good old days with the Scania 143 and Mercedes power liner they should be all rebuilt and feck the ad blue
You said it lad. Feck the ad-blue. It's not a proper truck if it needs ad blue to run. Bring back the good old 143
ALOT A RED MC ARDLES ON IT. MY LATE DAD AND BROTHER WORKED FOR THEM. A GREAT COMPANY. I THINK THATS MY BROTHER,S 142 IN THE MC ARDLES LINE UP. SOME PLANT IN ITS DAY. 👍
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I remember seeing some of them when I was a chap going off in the truck with the ould lad
Proper trucks keep her lit👍👍
Good old days.
Unreal 👍
No automatic boxes
Apart from the twin splits doubt if any others needed double declutching.
Remember all these firms .no limiters on the Irish trucks surprising wat you can do with a couple crocodile clips and bit wire.hollies cannock or known Greasy lilles. Good food .Still going and getting bigger.
Before the millenium.. when things were good..
