You’re only showing one form of athletes. Basketball players build most of the time are tall and lanky. There are exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking most of them don’t have a lot of mass to them in general. Also being explosive does not always correlate with out right strength. You can be extremely explosive but not be as strong as someone the same size as you. Overall I think this logic is a little flawed.
American football is not a real sport
Every sport has different physical demands
Its skill vs athletics basketball is more of a skill sport with cardio like soccer. Were football is more of a athletic sport in most positions. 2 factor model by rippetoe explains this well.
Yes exactly, even football wr aren’t as small as ja and lineman and LB are huge

@@griffin7274 I mean the line between skill and athletics is pretty blurred. Basketball is still an athletic sport because all of the skills needed are functions of the body. Ball handling requires superior rotator cuff strength and stability and velocity. Crossovers, for example, require superior hip mobility, stability and strength etc.
@@readandrap283 it is not. Roator cuff strength is athletics train the overhead press. Mobility is a skill mainly. Pitching is skill. U take your athletic traits such as strength from the weight room. Then you practice batting and u get a better skill of baseball from new found strength.

Muscle Μass doesn't necessarily make you slower. It's a compilation of genetics, tendon health and myofibrillar to sarcoplasmic mass ratio. Most muscle mass on athletes is myofibrilllar (which generates force) but bodybuilders focus on sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (which is the storage for more muscle fibers)
True, there are muscle strength training and muscle hypertrophy training. If you want strength you do strength training if you wanna look good you do hypertrophy training. Some people do have both though (like mike tyson),and they're way stronger compared to others in their field because the muscles also acts as armor rather than just being a strength source.
Fantastic explanation dont forget how fast motor units can be called into contraction from axons in nerves.
So are these myofibrillar and sarcoplasmic all just depend on your genetics or can you train these?
@@dereinekurde5270 manly genetics but u can increase size of them and make them more dense. Via stronger and bigger. But power how fast a muscle can be called into contraction is pretty much Gene's, think standing vertical jump. U can get stronger get little faster with technical training and sprinting. closer the distance less it can be trained. Such as the 40 yard dash very genetic like vertical. 2 best trained systems in the body are cardio and strength training. Cardio is aerobic oxygen based and strength training is ATP and suger based system that power the muscle. Like I said above how much muscle that can be called into contraction by a nerve aka motor unit is Gene's. I could go on little more about neuroscience but that would be to much typing. Starting strength has great articles about this. Poor laid we are watch is a goober lol.
@@griffin7274 so cardio like jogging and strength training (i assume you mean exercises that you use for hypertrophy training but you don’t train in 6-12 rep range rather in 1-5 rep range) are the best to train them? And as far as i understood you, to be good in 99.9% of every sport you need genetics that are above average, don’t you?
College and olympic wrestlers have a huge amount of muscle and they are arguably some of the most athletic people in the world

@Greg I understand your point, but they are some of the agile, flexible, and strong athletes in the world! I encourage you to watch jordan burroughs or gable stevenson they really show these attributes.

@Slimemdown🩸🐍 just like a football player will struggle on the wrestling mat, what's your point? That has nothing to do with speed or explosiveness that's irrelevant. That's like saying I'm stronger than you cause I lift and you don't. Not a valid edge.
@@John-br2sw it seems like you took some offense to what I said I didn’t see your football player would be dominant on the mat although, depending on what they do, they would be better than a wrestler, trying to be a linebacker or a receiver.

And they move really well too
@@lucasmellnick No football player is beating sprinters in a race & sprinters are usually thinner. Look at andre degrasse, he's almost a stick but one of the fastest sprinters. A car can have a more powerful engine but if it's to heavy, the lighter car with a slightly weaker engine with accelerate faster.
@@jasonphan2001 I won't disagree with that, but a large amount of football players were sprinters in the past throughout highschool and/or college. Maybe at the highest level they wouldn't beat them, but some would definitely be close if we are choosing outliers. There's definitely a certain body type thats appropriate for certain activities and absolutely in athletics the car analogy works well. However, when it comes to just pure athletics, if you take a football or rugby player, and take the time to teach them the game of basketball, or you take a basketball player and teach them the basics of football, then you will notice that the difference is actually skill and not size. There will be certain advantages in terms of size like being thinner in basketball to be able to split a defender and drive the net or bigger in rugby and football to be able to absorb a hit or run through someone, but simply saying muscle makes someone less athletic is untrue in the highest degree. Andre DeGrasse doesn't need to be hit, so hes just gotta be thin and powerful so he can excel at his sport like you said, but if he was also given the time to learn the basics of a sport, he could play pretty much anything based on pure athletics alone, and that's the same for pretty much anyone at the highest level of their respective sport.

Okay but having strength as an athlete is important. Packing on tons of muscle does make you move slower and less athletic. But being strong is also important so you don’t get snapped if half like a twig and so that you can be explosive. That’s why building lean muscle is the best option.

It's important to remember that the standards for muscle growth changes in different eras of sports. in the 80s 90s and early 00s in the nba you had to be strong and muscular to deal with people like shaq, david robinson, and bill laimbeer. Now athletic sports has moved into efficiency based training and game plans to ensure statistically that a tea can win, thats why Jokic has won 2 mvps in a row, and muscular development isn't valued as much as fitness and stamina (byproducts of a leaner athlete like kevin durant) because muscular growth and training doesn't result in the same statistical results as fundamentals and aerobic performance (fitness).
