Here’s a little more clarification on what went on with the controversy over Quiera’s video. First, there wasn’t a single negative comment on her video until I announced that her GoFundMe had hit $28K a few days after uploading. After that announcement all the claims that she went to high school (Quiera registered a few times, but never attended), that she wasn’t homeless (she was only homeless for a month or so when she was hiding from her pimp and no longer working) or that she planned this whole scam. I received so many messages from viewers who donated to different “Kellies” all across the U.S.. One woman emailed me to say she made a sizable donation to a “Kelly” in Atlanta only to find out that my Kelly has never even been to Atlanta. There were so many fake “Kellies” that popped up that it became impossible to do anything about it. I’ve seen many Instagram and Facebook accounts claiming to be Kelly (and even Quiera) showing her bragging about scamming me for the money or saying she was taking vacations with the GoFundMe money that I even got suspicious at times. Some of these accounts looked very convincing. Clearly, a lot of my viewers were fooled and because Quiera didn’t want any more attention, she chose to not defend herself. She became a social media celebrity and even lost a job because of all the attention she was getting then. One thing I’ve learned with controversy like this is when the demographic of commenters is lopsided, that is, primarily of a certain sex or a certain race, that’s an indicator that the reaction is caused by envy. By looking at the recognizable avatars of negative commenters one can recognize when a specific demographic is upset by what they’re seeing. That was definitely the case with Kelly’s video. There seemed to be some very motivated people trying to defame Quiera that fighting it seemed useless. As I mentioned in the follow up video, when some people see others doing positive things or receiving things that they’re not a lot of negativity can occur. Sadly, the term “haters gonna hate” is very true sometimes. Thank you again to the 99% who believed and supported Quiera.

I totally agree. Soft White Underbelly gave her space and respect to tell her story. Im a trauma therapist and trauma clients need validation and respect. This is something they never had as children. A respectful validating interview can be so healing. This is just what she needed ( to be heard). God Bless her ❤️

She felt she could say the truth. She had nothing to lose. She is so articulate and without artifice. Obviously intelligent with a good ear for grammar and pronunciation. It’s wonderful that she enjoys reading. Maybe she will write her story one day. Imagine if she became an attorney and was able to influence the foster care system. ❤️🙏🏻

Yo can tell Mark was very excited to see her well but at the same time so disappointed/upset at people who doubted her story. I’m genuinely happy for this girl, she’s got such a bright future with her testimony and character.

um no, a lot of kids who have messed up childhoods try to become social workers or like become the 'ideal' parent while still dealing with that trauma and then all they do is continue the cycle of ruining another person's life. Obviously it sounds great on paper but if she worked in that environment she would have to relive her past everyday and that wouldn't help anyone.

@@16sundays82 Once a person recieve help they are able to help another. Like someone in AA they need someone who knows the dealing of alcohol addiction to help another person. It's not uncommon for another person who been through trauma to get the help they need to help another who's goin through. We clearly have difference of opinions but none the less she's out there making good things happen for herself so who knows how far she can go 10 years from now.
Quiera's interview was the most painful one I've watched. Her story reminded me of my childhood. (Mine wasn't near as horrific after age 12 due to a family taking me in.) But, I understand the feeling of wanting to die because you were tortured and abused. I'm so glad her life changed. She gives me hope that we can both heal one day.

Watching your follow-up interview got me thinking about how many girls there are out there with similar stories that don't have that strong mindset that you have. I believe with my whole heart that not only has your story opened the eyes of the viewers, but it has probably also brought hope into the lives of those girls in abusive foster homes or such. In part one, her face spoke volumes when you told her you would bring her Christmas dinner. It was hope. And you delivered. A simple gesture produced astounding results. You never know what act of kindness can end up like this.

I was tortured too and sometimes people doubt me when I finally sometimes years later tell certain people things that I thought no one could hear about. I don't need validation either, you just want to move forward. she just wants to have a life just like everyone else. It pissed me off that people said she was lying. I’ve been working with youth that share her same experience for 25 years now. When I watched these videos, everything in me told me she was telling the truth. I just sat and cried because the story was all to familiar, hearing them from the children I work with.🥺 And she was absolutely correct about social workers. They come 1x per month. If they get use to you and feel they trust you, you’ll get a call instead of an in person visit.🤦🏾♀️ And whatever that child share, they talk about it with the foster parents. I understand they do it because there are children that lie amongst other serious behaviors. But something needs to be implemented for those children that are telling the truth. Yup! I did heroin for 4 years and you couldn’t tell by looking at me. I still showered (usually only once a week if I’m being honest) I still stayed my thick self, I smoked so I didn’t have track marks, I didn’t pick at myself so there wasn’t any scars. Only thing that changed about my physical appearance is that I hardly ever wore makeup anymore cause I didn’t have the energy. But everyone that knew me and around me knew what I was doing. But if u were just an outsider looking in, you wouldn’t be able to tell

People like to overly dramatize things, even flat-out lie to get attention. Think about it, being the lowest of the low and saying things so people could finally listen, you would probably lie. Also drug addicts aren't the most honest people. They're high most of the time and believe in illusions.

The bottom line is that this girl is well read, extremely grounded and intelligent. The abuse and trauma couldn't get to the core of her mindset. Incredible story, thank you for helping her.

OMG😭😭😭😭This update made me so happy for Quiera!! I’m glad you’re in a safe space and you learning your way!! Stay focused and you taught me a lesson too about people that says rude things because I always gave a reaction to people words but imma start just letting them talk n I’m 37 with a 18 year old daughter in the Army and I have a 15 year old son and I always protected them and I will definitely continue but I love you all the way from Louisiana!!

He did.. I'm so grateful. I too tried to help a young cousin find her way. She came to live with me at 26 after aging out of foster care, and still unable to find stability. After 9 months rent free, biweekly conversations & goal setting she still didn't believe she could do it. Its been a year that she's been gone from me, and she is still living from here to there. I wish I could've done more, but she drained my energy so much so that I was becoming ill. Wherever she is, I still pray for her.

Unfortunately, we tend to attract those that seem familiar to us. Considering this girl has had nothing but abuse in her life, it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what she sought out in a partner/relationship. I hope that she seeks out education in trauma/psychology to learn about what she’s been through and the way it manifests throughout every different phase of her life. ❤️

@@raerae3455 - You’re correct. If someone has never been exposed to healthy, loving relationships, then it’s not surprising that they would seek out an unhealthy, abusive one. We are products of our environments, unfortunately. I think that anyone who has survived trauma or abuse of any kind should take the time to be with themselves, to educate, to grow, to heal past trauma’s and be fully content with themselves before contemplating sharing your life with another person. It’s often when we don’t take that time for self growth, that we end up in a cycle of unhealthy relationships or even friendships for that matter.
It sounds like you’ve come a long way and did the inner work needed for self growth and awareness when it comes to relationships. Congrats! It’s not easy. I grew up in dysfunction myself, was also in the system for a few years. It took me a long time and a lot of work to change the flawed way I viewed relationships and love in general. 💗

HOMELESS and REALLY MESSED UP! I can’t stand the internet! you never know what ANYBODY goes thru! what does she has to gain from this? besides getting her story out there & possibly encouraging other young women that’s going thru the same thing to do better ! It’s like me driving in my car and giving a homeless person money. I run the risk of that person being deceptive but that is a risk that “I” have thought of and would be willing to take. It’s no different than the people who donated to this girl.
And to take it a step further, addicts, ex-convicts, and people who have lived a similar life that she has lived go back and forth all the time. Recitivism is real. The National Bureau of Statistics reported: An estimated 68% of released prisoners were arrested within 3 years, 79% within 6 years, and 83% within 9 years. The statistics are also the similarly high for addicts as well as prostitutes.
I’ve seen this lady claim, on multiple posts, that she is a liar and scammer, but she has no real proof other than this video that she has repeatedly posted under people’s comments of her just smoking weed and being around people drinking lean. If this video her proof that this girls trauma is not real, then she need to need to go back to the drawing board.
The pathway to getting back on ones feet is hardly a linear pathway. It will come with many bumps and bruises along the way... I wish her well

It blows my mind that this young woman only has a 5th grade education - she is intelligent, well-spoken and poised. She's been through such unspeakable trauma in her life and it's so amazing to see her doing well now. Imagine how many people living on the streets or in extreme poverty could accomplish incredible things if they only had the resources.

She's not homeless. On top of that, in her first video just look at her... her face is clear, she has on a clean shirt, for god sakes she got braces on. I can't even afford braces and I have a 9 to 5. How many homeless people you seen wearing braces? She is just pulling on peoples heart strings.
