Great videos! This one helped my son wire his 97xj for new LEDs. For you that are running factory fogs -Jeepcables added a pigtail to driver’s side plug to splice into 20ga red wire on existing plug. This solved the issue of the brights staying on!
the relay upgrade is the number one best thing you can do for a cherokee. and the stock headlights are just fine once your getting a full 13ish volts to them. second best mod? 180* thermostat.
Thanks Austin I believe this is just what I need to fix the low beams not working on my 98 XJ! Great informative video, keep up the good work! So of us New Jeepers need your wisdom to get and keep our Jeep rolling down the trails and roads! Thanks! Love that Silver XJ by the way Awesome Setup!
Did you try this? Did it work? My headlights don't come on at all. Not even the high beams. I've tried everything. I installed a new headlight switch, new headlight switch harness, connected a new turn signal switch in the steering column and of course checked all fuses. If this plugs into the existing headlight connector on the passenger side how does it bypass anything?
I’m working on this now. Will be installing on a 99 with factory fogs, a 96 with factory fogs, and a 95 YJ where I intend ti recreate factory fogs. So will be interesting. Need to buy the wire connectors to hook up that pigtail. Only question is whether it’s needed on the 96. Based on wiring diagram (I’ve exhaustively researched the fogs), I think it will be necessary.
That's why i've been considering some h4 conversions. It's a bit more work, but you can keep a stock-looking housing and have your choice of bulb. One of the biggest problems with choosing LEDs is if you go cheap, they're crap. They don't last or they have a bad light spread. But if you go expensive, you've got a nicer quality build, better spread, but you'll still want niceities like jw speakers heated lights because LEDs don't always put out enough heat to melt stuff off in colder climates. If you do consider any h4 conversions, i'd recommend getting some Hella ece rated (euro standard, better than dot standard and accepted in all states for inspection) housings and research the bulbs you want to go with. I'm planning on boslla bulbs because they have an easy multi-color switch for different weather (the more yellow, the better for snow and fog). I've done well with just the housing upgrade, but i'd feel a lot safer with some new lights with how much the LEDs of other cars now drown out my vision
I know these are old comments but... meh. We went with h4 4 housings with led halos off ebay in fact. They look great, are super bright AND they still melt the snow .... very very important for winter driving herw
I purchased the jeep cable daylight headlight harness for LED lights for my 2001 XJ and I have an extra brown wire off of the drivers headlight connector that is about 6” long and ends with a butt connector. Where does that butt connector connect to !!!! Just purchased and received Monday. Got the LEDs last Friday. Installed got it all together WOW do I have lights.
That wire should be a ground, i would double check with a multi-meter or power probe. You can extend a ground wire to it or cut it off to add an eyelet connector to ground it somewhere close.
I have been looking for a reason why my xj LED lights are slightly on when my jeep is on... thanks for explaining the system.. I have. Even telling people that there is still power at the xj switch when off they called me crazy or said replacement...ummm no... that would be same problem .
I did, just didnt include it in this video since I have 2 other videos going over that and the focus was on the wire harness. If they do break I believe you can get them on Amazon for fairly cheap. They are not necessarily spring loaded but there is just one spring that is located an one corner of the headlight housing that keeps the whole system under tention.
I have a 1991 Cherokee Briarwood where the headlights turn on, but then begin to cut off and on after about 10 minutes. Do you think upgrading the cables would solve this issue?
It should, it sounds like the main issue may be the headlight switch shorting out due to being overloaded or worn out. I would look into replacing that as well.
hi i lm having some problems with my 97 xj, i’ll hit a bump and both my headlights will go out sometimes not even hitting a bump will make them go out, any advice ?
My headlights don't come on at all. Not even the high beams. It happened while I was driving with a dead alternator, but freshly charged battery. My headlights haven't worked since. I've tried everything. I installed a new headlight switch, new headlight switch harness, connected a new turn signal switch in the steering column and of course checked all fuses. If this plugs into the existing headlight connector on the passenger side how does it bypass anything?
The new harness just uses the headlight power from the old harness as a signal wire for the relays in the new harness. So the new harness gives the headlights power from a new power source and not drawing that much power through the headlight switch, which originally caused the lights to be dim. But you still need to have your original headlight system working for this to work as well. I would suggest using a multi-meter for diagnosing electrical issues. I would start at the headlight switch and check for the correct power readings.
Just a random question, does this remove radio interference you get with these headlights? I bought these for my 92 and everytime I turn on my headlights the reception is extremely staticky, thought maybe I needed a new antenna or something, but its just downright bad reception when they're on.
@@OutJeeping I appreciate that, I've been told to use Ferrite cores, but they didn't help in the slightest. Then I was told possibly an anti-flicker harness would work. Radio works fine until you turn the headlights on and all of the FM stations sound like really terrible AM stations, and you lose some stations in reception when you're not even moving. I'm kinda just trying to find anything that'll work at this point to fix this problem. LOL. Never had an issue before using the stock headlights until I switched to LED.
I have a problem, change the harness and everything and if the lows work the problem is that the lows turn on the highs and the highs only illuminate you a little more, Anyone who can help me or had the same problem?
I always give it a light tap so the terminal is all the way down and flush with the top of the battery. Otherwise you risk the terminal getting stretched out over time since the battery posts are tapered and smaller at the top.
drat..... looks like this harness wont solve my (and likely many other folks) issues. As in it plugs into the OEM harness..... that on our older rigs....... IS THE ISSUE. It is the OEM light wiring harness that is failing.
Your channel is so good bro, your jeep inspired me to buy a 2000 silver xj, thanks for all the super informational videos

Great job, bud! Really like your channel's content. Informative and clear. Thanks for all you do . Rock on...
this makes it easy - i had a 2001 years ago and hd to make up a relay harness from scratch
Thank you for very clear instructions to installing, greatly appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
I have two cherokees with these headlights and they are awesome
Awesome, I just changed out my headlights to LED's😁 They are super similar!
I never really got around to liking the newer headlights for the Jeep. Just good ole halogen.

Did this fix that issue? I just got LED’s on mine and noticed them being on and now my battery is drained and dead so need to fix the drain part
This video was very helpful! Thanks a ton buddy
Exactly what I need, thank you!
Nice job Austin. The harness looks like a good one.The head light I don't care for.....
Appreciate the video just got my aftermarket headlights and a harness. Your video helped a lot🤙🏻
Have you looked into doing the Big Three Upgrade? Amazon has some and Dirt Bound Off-road has a vehicle specific one.
I have run the Jeep Cables kit in my previous Jeep, I will be getting that for this Jeep as well.
very nicely done.
Great videos, I have the Battery Cables by Jeep cables. I’ll look into getting the headlight cables.
Good Video. Nice Jeep
I didn't know these were available, so I made one myself. Cost me about twenty bucks. I'm not sure these are $75.00 worth of convenient.
Good info. Thank you for the video. I'll be looking into this...
Do you have a video, and suggestion for replacement of part, of the ignition switch harness? Love how you avoid the spaghetti mess.
I do not unfortunately.
@@OutJeeping thanks, I figured it out as the pigtail is available and just need to splice it in.
Good video 👍
How did you fix the factory battery ground? My square nut totally broke?
my question is what are the pros of the big 7 cable kit and the headlight harness? like i’ve been wanting to do it to my XJ
Is this harness available yet? Website still shows to add onto a wishlist only.
I was wondering if the jeep cable and the headlights would work for a 95 jeep Cherokee Xj ?
Yup it should work for all XJ's
Did you adjust the new lights with the aimer bolts (those usually snap and the springs shoot apart)
I did, just didnt include it in this video since I have 2 other videos going over that and the focus was on the wire harness. If they do break I believe you can get them on Amazon for fairly cheap. hi i lm having some problems with my 97 xj, i’ll hit a bump and both my headlights will go out sometimes not even hitting a bump will make them go out, any advice ?
Start off by checking all connections especially at the back of the headlight and the grounds that are screwed to the fender by the washer fluid tank.
You said this will work for 97-2001 xj. Will it not work for my 96?
My bad, it should work with all Cherokees 84-01.
Hey I got the kit but it makes my drl flicker
What’s the brightness difference with and without with the leds?
Not a big difference on LEDs. But prevents dim flashing when the lights are off.

Good question, I'll have to get back to you in that one. I mostly listen to Bluetooth so I am not sure on that one.

Radio runs the same ground as headlights
With the New Osram Chips 5x7 led set (same style, for the same price on Amazon), don't need to buy the H4 female connector for the Cherokee.
Will this cable harness fit my Jeep j10?
I believe so, they both use the standard H4 headlight connector.
are the headlights positive switched?
Yes
I have a problem, change the harness and everything and if the lows work the problem is that the lows turn on the highs and the highs only illuminate you a little more, Anyone who can help me or had the same problem?
@abrahamroman9911 Must have it backwards. When the highs are on, the lows should be on too. Lows should only go on by themselves in low mode.
@OutJeeping oh, I'll look at that, how did you reinstall your original system to the new socket?
Which diragram did you use?
Todo iba perfecto man, hasta que golpeaste terminal del borne de batería...
I always give it a light tap so the terminal is all the way down and flush with the top of the battery. Otherwise you risk the terminal getting stretched out over time since the battery posts are tapered and smaller at the top.
It's ALWAYS good to smear a dab of dielectric grease on EVERY connection. ESPECIALLY GROUNDS!
i thought you sold XJ
I sold my silver xj still have the red one.
Can’t even buy the harness on their website
They must be sold out. You can sign up on their website to get on the waiting list for when they go back in stock.
EBay dude!
100 bucks out the door for this and k suspension sells the same thing for 25
