  • Hey hey everyone! Today's video is a quick day in the life of a hospice RN, for privacy reasons there will be no clips of any skills or patient interactions. Enjoy!
    ---
Hi everyone my name is Jacqueline and I am a new grad registered nurse. I currently work as hospice RN Case Manager out in the community and thought I would share my new grad journey on the internet!

Thank you. I've been working as a RN Case Manager in HH for about 8-9 months now and I have been considering transitioning to Hospice. This was really helpful.

I’m an RN working in home health and I work 12-14 hours PER DAY with all the charting etc… I want to work on hospice so badly BUT I’m afraid of possibly getting into something worse. Is the charting exhausting to you? I’m miserable

Dumb question do they use Hospice RN synonmously with Case Management Hospice RN? Do they pay per visit or per day? You see the patient and then you chart at home.

Hospice RN is usually used for RN's who work in inpatient hospice facilities. A hospice RN Case Manager (RNCM) manages the coordination of care for patients at home, in nursing homes, and in acute care hospitals.
Each hospice company is different. Some pay salary, some pay hourly, and some pay per visit.
Each company is also different when it comes to charting. Some require you to chart at bedside or within a certain distance of the location (like your car parked outside). Some allow you to chart afterwards within 24 to 48 hours of the assessment

@@RogueAstro85 Thank you Ryan. Are you a home hospice nurse? Do you know what the hospice RN's required duties are?
Do they bath the patients or just examine them and make sure their pain meds are reordered.
Would one need to hire an aide for personal hygiene like showers.
How many visits does medicare pay for? I doubt everyday?

@@relaxingcalmbaby4779 I'm actually starting a home hospice nursing job in a few weeks! But I know a lot of the ins and outs.
Usually the hospice agencies have aides that assist with the general care of the patients. The RNCM's do the assessment and provide nursing specific tasks like wound care. Usually home hospice patients don't get a visit everyday and the RNCM educates the family/caregivers on how to manage the patient in the meantime. If a patient requires regular nursing care or care beyond what the family/caregiver can provide, it's recommended that those patients are moved to a SNF or nursing home.
And I'm unsure about how Medicare pays for hospice. That is a gap in my current knowledge. If I learn once I start my job I'll try to remember to come back and let you know.
Are you just curious? Looking to get into hospice nursing? Or are you asking because you or your family might require it in the near future?
